Caloosa Elementary School

We love Caloosa! There is no perfect school but this one comes close to it. We have been part of Caloosa for 6 years with 3 different children and I cannot complain. All the teachers have been great, there is structure and compassion. The principle is a gem! I would definitely recommend Caloosa elementary :0)

The teachers at Caloosa are beyond GREAT! I can't say the same for the 'management'. In my experience with the 'management', they're a little judgemental and stand-off-ish. They qualify PE as recess time. There is NO recess after lunch, and NO recess on days they have PE. After some back and forth last year, a 'conditional' recess was agreed to for days the children DON'T have PE. If you're wondering why our children are coming home all wound up after a day of school here, now you know. We wonder why childhood obesity is a problem in the U.S., yet at the same time, we strip valuable recess time from the schedule. Elementary school students should have a 10 to 20 minute recess BEFORE lunch, and a 10 to 20 minute recess after they've eaten their lunch. They blame it on the state's 'requirements', and that they only have the children for 6 hours. Excuses. They also like to tell our children what BOOKS they CAN'T read. They feel the need to test the children on EVERY book they check out of the school library, instead of making reading a FUN learning activity. We could change schools to fix my concerns, but then who would change the system?

Caloosa is on the ball when it comes to student placement. They are aware of every teacher's attributes and accordingly position the student where they fit best!

My son has been going to Caloosa since Kindergarten and he is in fifth grade now. My husband and I couldn't be happier. The staff is amazing. My daughter just started kindergarten this year and we are thrilled! We just had another baby and we hope she will go there in the future as well.

Caloosa is an outstanding school. Both of my children have had nothing but positive experiences, both of their teachers (Ms. Smith-Kindergarten, Ms. Carwana-3rd Grade and Ms. Kerr-4th Grade) went beyond my expectations and did a fabulous job of preparing my children for the next level and more! I also LOVE the Media Center staff (Ms. Smith and Ms. B.) they are so loving, patient and really do a great job with all of the students! All of the staff is professional and will help when you have questions, etc. I feel that they are really on top of everything, so my children are very safe at school. Can't say enough good things!

This is our third year at this school and I could not be happier. We had the honor of having Mrs. Gay Page as a teacher. What a wonderful teacher and person. My son has Mrs. Einstein who just has a knack for her children and it shows. Mrs. Kovacs has shown her dedication time and time again. I recommend this school every chance I get. It is not like any other school. I wish all children had the opportunity to come to this particular school to be taught by these teachers and staff. Just amazing. Caloosa is a wonderful school! My son who is deaf and just turned 5 has been attending the head start program for the past 2 years! The quality education he is receiving from both his teachers and therapists have made all the difference! He is a totally different kid and learns something new every day! I couldn't ask for a better school

My children are 7,6,6. The receptionist is always there if I have any questions. I feel my children are always safe and secure and they take proper safety precautions when anyone comes into their school. They exceeded my expectations on teaching. I am very proud that my children attend Caloosa. My children love all the awards and goals for learning. They look forward to getting up and going to school. Good job Caloosa! My twin boys have attended Caloosa Elementary since kindergarten. They will graduate this year and move on to middle school. Our experience with Caloosa, all the teachers and staff have been so fantastic. They are family and my kids enjoy going to school! I love this school but more important than that, my son loves it! He is in 3rd grade and loves to get up every morning! He is in the gifted program and likes having a 'man teacher' too. We get plenty of feedback from his teacher (Ms. Kauffman) who is fantastic! The school has had a skating party and my son's teacher was even there! I just have a great feeling every time I go in this school to help out in the classroom, everyone is very child friendly and you can feel safe having your child here. The test scores are high and that means a lot to me. We were going to pull my son out and put him in full time gifted after his scores came back but this school is so good we will keep him here in part time gifted at least till year end.

For me Caloosa is the best elementary school in town. Teachers really care about students and the enviroment is great. One of the things I love about Caloosa is friendly staff they have, they are always smiling and with a grat attituted.

I love the uniform dress code! The afterschool program is great! However my son has been going there for 2 yrs now and I think the teachers are not doing the greatest job (maybe I have just had bad luck with his teachers) His teachers are not providing proper instructions with reading and math. I have gotten nothing but negative feedback about his day. They never write when he is good only the bad things and these things are common behavior for his age. I almost took him out of the school but I really like the atmosphere and location and was hoping that its just HIS teachers that hes been getting and not all teachers.
