We moved to Celebration in March from overseas. Our kids really like the school, it's clean, organized, and structured. The interaction we have had with teachers and counselors have been very positive. I am involved with PTA, and I volunteer as well. Our goal is to help our kids to be good men, by educating them at home, and hope the school can give them the tools and skills necessary for their professional lives in the future. One of our kids has special needs, and he is in the process of getting it. I will be able to provide more assessment of the school later, as we are dealing with this issue, so far the school has been very responsive.
Like Celebration itself, everything here is about appearance. This school cares only about their rating, meaning FCAT test results. Test results are more important than actual learning. They are teaching children to game the system, by giving out free breakfasts when FCAT testing is going on. The "gifted" program consists only of extra homework. They can't even skip the regular homework if they are more advanced, so it's not different homework, but extra homework. There's no one going above and beyond here. The principal Rene Clayton is awful. She doesn't have the slightest interest in listening to parents. There's a police office ON CAMPUS, and Ms. Clayton regularly has the police officer respond to parent complaints in order to intimidate, rather than responding reasonably. This school gets 1 bonus star because we had a great Kindergarten teacher, Mrs. Loboda. Do not send your kids here thinking that rich Celebration will provide a good education. Like the rich, the appearance of being good is all that matters here.
Great staff who truly do try to ensure every child is treated with respect and given every opportunity to realize their potential.
I love Celebration School and disagree wholeheartedly with the negative reviewers. My eldest son has attended this school for six years and my youngest for three years. We have been very fortunate to have excellent teachers each year. My boys both love the school as well. Is it perfect? No, but what school is? They do an amazing job with the resources they have. As for teaching to the FCAT, it is what it is. The kids need to be successful on the test, so the teachers are under tremendous pressure to assure that they are. Until a better system is implemented, they have no choice. Unfortunately this is out of the hands of the school. The principal is not your touchy feely warm fuzzy kind of person, but she's darn good at her job. Everything she does is for the good of the students and their education. One last note - Celebration K-8 School has an amazing, very active PTA. They are able to sponsor many wonderful programs and activities throughout the school year. If you choose this school for your children, please consider getting involved! There are too many parents who like to complain but never show up or get involved. This is a school and community that I am proud to be a part of.
My school can improve the staff and i do not like the school as much as they would like me to. Also the principle says we are a blue ribon school but I do not feel this way because the principle and the dean and the vice principle are all not as nice as they say they are by a long shoot.
I can say that I entirely agree with the thorough review, last but one. Considering this is a public school in Osceola county, this school does an excellent job and tries hard to meet all the needs of its students. After one year at Celebration K8, I can say that my son's teacher this year was among the most dedicated and innovative teachers that I have encountered.
honestly after reading all these comments this school sounds horrible :/ c(o.oc) :O >:D :p
We have been her for 2 years now, we have multiple students so I can post an honest thorough opinion. I will say that I think that a Student needs excellent teachers, a good curriculum and strong support from their parents to obtain a strong education. While I think that the Florida School system (FCAT based curriculum) is flawed vs. the State that we moved from, it is a decent curriculum in general, I just don't agree with a lot of ways they teach just to pass the FCAT, the effort could be better utilized. PROS: Teachers are Excellent (We have had 3 I rate as A+, 2 = Bs), Parents are pretty involved and each room has a parent that comes in regularly, the Tech-Up program aims to get computers into the school, there is a gifted program, speech programs, good student body, and the facility is great! CONS: I have never met the Principal and see very little communication from her , there are no set Parent/Teacher Conferences (teachers are very open to meeting with you), there are few to no after school activities (like movie nights, carnivals, parent/student dances, etc.), also due to the budgetary constraints of the school/County the grounds are a bit neglected.
My daughter was in her class the kids were playing around a kid joking around hit her, so my daughter lightly slapped him back ofcourse the teacher did not see the boy hit my daughter but saw my daughter hit the boy My daughter was taken to the office where she sat for over 2 hours before calling me. The principal left me a voice message saying that your daughter did this ect...She said she is done She has all her stuff and you need to come pick her up. And if you dont pay the $5 she owes she will not be able to go to the 8th grade, mind you he repeated the $5 on the message 3 times. She was so worried about the $5 that he did not care about the student; Hence there was a small scratch on a book that they charged her for. The Principal took my daughter to clear out her locker and said where is the book u have to pay for? Wow really? She also said i could have u pay more but..... Comes to show u that the $5 they charged me for nothing was more important than my childs education there is 6 days off school left but they suspended her anyway. I called the principal after having to leave work and he was rude wouldnt listen to me and just kept taking loud and very unprofessional
My son was involved in an incident at school on Friday afternoon but this isnt the issue. This morning I received a call from the principal saying We called your son's classroom but the teacher said he wasnt in class" This was at 8:49am. I asked her to give me a call either way. 20 minutes pass by no phone call. While waiting I decided to drive around the neighborhood just in case I notice anything out of the norm. Im panicking because I dont know whats going on. I then drive to school because I still hadnt heard back. When I arrive he is in the office. I asked him "Where you in class?" He said yes. I go into the office where the principal and asst principal are and asked "Why didnt you at least call me to let me know he was here". Her response in a very nonchalant tone was. I hadnt got around to it. I was livid. I told her you do not call a parent stating their child is missing and not let them know it was a mistake. I believe school officials need to work together to ensure success with students education. This is the first time I ever met the principal but we are definitely off to a bad start. I feel she is unprofessional and uncompacionate.
My opinion about the school and staff of this school is poor. I believe that to have a good chance of being in good terms with the principal of the school you should be a brownnoser to her otherwise your children will pay the consecuences. The staff is careless with the children but they will pretend infront of the parents that they do care for them. Overall to me the principal of the school is another Fidel Castro but in the united States of America the place where our children could have an education it all depends on our dictator if they could stay or not in "her" republic. If you would like your children in this school then WELCOME TO CUBA...
This is school is fantastic for typical students. They do well catering to gifted students and average students. However, if you have a child with special needs or who is struggling, they will not work with the students. The asst principal has been heard making remarkng about having to take the homeless students from the hotels in a deragatory voice.
Because my daughter has had the best teachers for the 3 years she is going to the Celebration School and because the principal Dr. Kennedy is the most dedicated and caring. Parents, PTA and community in general are participants in the school progress.
Celebration School has a great staff and parents who care about their kids.
My 2 sons love this school and so do I. From the education to the teachers, they have really developed my kids education and the way they express themselves. Both of my sons are A or A/B Honor Roll since they have been in this school. We moved to Kissimmee 3 years ago. The main reason we have stayed has been because of Celebration School. I've even taking time away from my profession, and it has been well worth it. I would like to thank the teachers and the Principal for all their hard work and effort. It is greatly appreciated. I also want to thank Jose and everyone involved in the Celebration Little League. They are great! Their games and practices are held right at the Celebration School fields. My boys have truly excelled in all areas since they have been in this school.
Celebration is going above and beyond to giving the best education to my daughter. I feel blessed that she has this opportunity and the staff... they are the BEST... thank you Celebration K-8...
The school is a bad learning area for kids. They've had many problems with bullying and to many kids teasing, taunting, etc. other kids.I will not send my kids back there next year!!!!!
When I went there I was treated as unwanted becuase I was not high class. No one ever talked to me until I got my glasses off. Don't go here. It is your worst dream!!!!!!
We have a good level of parental involvement. The school is one of the best, if not the best, in the county and is extremely safe. The administration has always been available to speak with when needed. For the two years my children have attended, the teachers have been caring and have shown a positive attitude towards educating the children. The county system has many issues, although the school has seemed to excel past most of them.
