Saturn Elementary School

My children have went to this school for years now. I had the best pre-k teacher, I know an earlier post talked about only 14 children being in the pre-k class but this is not true. There are at least 4 different teachers all with at least 15 students in each class. The program is ran well, they communicated with me constantly and the kids had a field trip every month. When it comes the the FCAT it is unfortunate that there is so much stress on it, I swear it is what they do all year but dont blame the school for that, blame the government for taking away teachers creativity in the classroom. I promise you they do not like the FCAT any more than the parents do. I volunteer at this school all the time and over the years have learned that they are a great school, they do their best and they are increasing grades and test scores within the school. Parents and the community should learn more about the school system before getting so upset, if you get to know the teacher that is educating your student you will learn that he or she is just as ticked off about educational policies today.

This school's staff doesn't have a clue that They are in the middle of the ghetto? My daughter struggled from day one to be noticed, due to the horrible behavior of the students that attend this school. Because Pre-K isn't state mandated, the 7 of 14 students that DID attended PRE-K were left to fend for their selves. I volunteered often, and was always amazed that there were so many students in ONE class that could be totally disruptive! The state needs to find tougher teaching staff. Which brings me to the lady in the front office. NOW SHE is the rudest person I have ever came across. You can sure tell who deals with the parents of the kids that attend this school! And she treats everyone like those parents. Then state owes her COMBAT counciling. ******PARENTS ******. WARNING GHETTO STUDENTS ........ 99% of school are under average learning Ability. Finally, I live in a area of about 300 homes of upper middle-class families. And only 11 students attend this school. Everyone else drive their children to another school. If you want a pants on the ground gangster with NO RESPECT for authority - this is the place to enroll you child.

They displaced my 5 y/o child on his 2nd day of the school year. The teacher just forgot that he was suppose to be riding the bus, and dumped him in after care. I received no call from the school or anything. When I went in, to find out where he was, the lady calls and says that "another" child is missing. Really? Another one, on the 2nd day of the school year? They do not nourish a child's potential. My kid has read since 2.5 y/o. I appreciate "No Child Left Behind", but my child is being academically neglected versus nourished. They teach him his ABC's and #s that he already knows all day. When I tried to talk to the teacher about his potential, I was told that "They know how to do their jobs." I can't wait to move in Dec. This school is horrible!

Dropped my son off for the first day of K. Staff was rushing us and impatient. Kindergarteners need extra help when transitioning, obviously, and they just weren't getting it. The teacher was condescending when she informed me his private VPK school did not teach him the basics for starting K. On the 2nd day, I walked him to the cafeteria to see if he wanted to eat breakfast with the "big" kids or at home. He was terrified! The noise of the kids yelling and pushing, and that of the staff yelling to "Hurry up and move it!" intimidated me as well. We were rushed through the line and DIRECTED toa seat. The boy next to him started bullying another,but the one teacher in the large room was too busy screaming @ kids to "Hurry Up" to stop the violence. NEVER go there, they don't care for your kids only grades.

My daughter has learning disabilities. Never contacted by the teacher to let me know she was struggeling or having any problems. Any time I tried to call, I could only get her voicemail. When I finally got a meeting with the teacher everyting was " I don't have time." No ESE programs available during school hours. She was required to remain after school for ESE programs. I pulled my child out less than half way through the school year. May be a good school for 'normal' children, but not for any child with developmental delays.

If it isn't on the FCAT, your child isn't going to learn it. My children have had their questions rebuffed and have been told, 'You don't have to know that, because it's not on the FCAT.' Here I am, trying to teach my children to think for themselves and to aspire for something greater than mediocrity, and the staff of this school is determined to keep everyone exactly the same. All children do not learn the same way, and it is unfair to keep the smarter kids back (or to put more on the children who need extra help), all in the interest of cramming the FCAT material down their throats. After the FCAT, teaching screeches to a halt. There is no science class unless they are in the grades that have science FCAT. With few exceptions, the teachers are close-minded and rude. The administrative staff is uncaring and unfair.

My daughter started PrK this year and she loves it. Her teachers, Ms. Buckley and Mrs. Perez, are wonderful and very interactive with all of there students. They are very perdonable with both there students and parents. It's a wonderful school, i would not send my children to any other school.
