Very serious school, teachers are the best, they follow your child and keep you informed if your child has difficulties. A lot of homework and reading. Overall the kids are well behaved and the teachers friendly. Parents have to be involved in their children's programs. Carver also presents the best high-schools to the 8th graders. The language programs are difficult but rewarding. The negative aspects: All kids can't do sports, the school does not have the space, and not all teachers load the homework online, some do but not all of them, too bad!!! Overall, it's a great school and I am happy that my son went there.
This school's culture is incredible. The programs are demanding, but well worth it. I recommend sending your child to this school.
This school provided the most marvelous education, in an atmosphere of safety, interesting, diverse and joyful students and absolutely wonderful, dedicated teachers. Spanish Lead teacher, Mrs. Buitrago, truly knows how to teach as well as provide children with their own self-confidence and self-respect. Mrs. Szmulevicz, math teacher, is tough, honest, and a remarkable teacher... Carver is great in every way and prepares students to any high school. Thanks for the great years, Margie Samuels
The academic programs at Carver are great. Especially because of the choice of languages you have, varying from french to spanish to german.
This is a very good school that ranks among the top in the state. The choice in electives and extracurricular activities is also excellent. It is a magnet middle school for languages - German, Spanish, and French. Their two language programs, International Studies and International Education are both very good, although 'I.S.' is more challenging, and students have to start taking it in elementary school at Sunset Elementary.
I chose not to send my child to Carver because of the math classes being taught in another language. That turned out to be a good thing. When my child got to Coral Gables High School, the teachers could tell which students learned math (those from Ponce, South Miami and other middle schools), and which learned a foreign language and only a little math -- and were most likely to struggle through the IB math classes. Getting a math tutor during Carver seems to give the most chance for success in HS math, even for those not doing IB.
