Westchester Elementary School

While I suppose everyone's experiences depend upon the teacher your child gets, we have had a wonderful 5 years at Westchester! The posting from January that stated 'no science', is untrue. In addition to science in the classroom, there is a Science Lab that all children attend just like PE, Music, Technology, Spanish and Art. With state mandated Benchmark Testing and FCAT testing, each area of education must be taught in order for the children to pass. We have been very happy with our our children's progress and their experiences.

My daughter goes to 1st grade and the pace really picked up half way through the year. They do a lot of different things and she has a lotof fun.

Overall westchester is an excellent school. There is a lot of parent volunteers and parents are always welcome. Students also are involved in many programs that are volunteer based such as meet the masters and read with me as well as the daily specials like art,media,spanish,science ect. Academically I have been very pleased. My child has all the materials he needs to suceed throughout his school years. The staff are very knwledgable and helpful and always visable anytime of day. I am very happy.

This school is incredibly overrated. Although, an A+, the teachers are unimaginative and the curriculum is dull. No science, no history. Have encountered geography in grade 3.

This school is Wonderful. My son is in the first grade and absolutley loves going. The teachers are all great and have amazing ability to teach our children. The school is a very safe and loving enviroment. I am happy to be a Westchester Mom.

I am a new to Westchester this year, and am not yet sure how I feel about the school. My first impressions of the staff, and content of the curriculum is not very good. It seems like the only thing the students do is worksheets, no real deep thinking.

My daughter is in the 1st grade and today was reading a level 3 book to me. This is enough to summarize the type of education she is receiving. Children are treated like children but are also taught responsibility and each year it appears they are treated a little more strict. Homework is given even in the smaller grades and expected to be returned in a timely manner. I would definetly recomment this school

Even though this school is rated an 'A' school, it is the biggest joke I have ever seen. The teachers don't spend much time explaining the information in class (that is, if they explain it) and the parents are expected to teach the material to the children. The principal and many of the teachers operate by instilling fear in the kids. There is too much emphasis on passing standardized tests instead of learning basic fundamentals. There is no gymnasium at this school and PE consists of activities such as Yoga in a Chair. Art and music do not have classrooms, they just come around on a cart and do not teach the kids much. Science is also considered a 'special' and not an integral part of the education. Recess is rediculously short and the toys are basically nonexistant. Overall, this is a horrible elementary school, regardless of its grade.

This school has an outstanding academic program with loving and caring teachers. They encourage the envolvement of parents in the classroom. The only down side is the childern did not particapate in a holiday show. That was somewhat disappointing.

I have several family members who have/are attending this school and both the students and their parents have nothing but wonderful things to say about this school. The teachers are attentive and skilled. The students feel comfortable and welcome at this school from day one. My nephew had the opportunity to go to a private school and chose Westchester because his sisters had been so happy there.

My daughter is in (K), & loves it. We have Mrs. Brokowsky who is an incrediable teacher. I feel very safe sending her to this school.

The teacher that my son has is wonderful. He went into kindergarten not knowing how to read and with 2 months left of school, is already reading on a first grade level. It is the teacher that pushes the children to develop. The aftercare program is wonderful as well. My son hasn't been sick very much, but the school does a great job of letting the families know what is going around. The principal seems very dedicated and the children appear to be happy. The weekly newsletter is very informative. I happen to like the fact that the school has a uniform code. Makes it easier on the morning and the pocketbook. I would highly recommend this school.

I love this school and the way my kids have been treated there. Everyone, from the Principal to the custodians, have the best attitude towards the kids. The school have excellent programs supported by the PTA and is always doing everything needed to keep on being an 'A' school.

We just moved from a great school district in another state. My daughter's teacher is competent and hard-working. Homework assignments are appropriate (both amount and subjects/skills)and Westchester has a great after school program that's fun for kids. I'm very pleased so far.

My daughter just started Kindergarten, she is so happy, the school is in excelent conditions, very clean and the teachers seems to be great. I would like to recognize that the Principal Mr. Lafevre is on top of every issue. I think this is going to be a great school year for us.

My daughter hated to leave Westchester for middle school. Westchester is a great school with the awesome teachers and an excellent PTA.
