Not a good school for children who need a bit more individualized attention from teachers and administrative individuals. If your child has no problem following the school's curriculum and can learn on their own, then your child won't have a problem with this school. However, from my experience with my family over the last 3 years, children who require specialized attention or have additional needs are pushed by the wayside by teachers, administrators and top officials in this school, focusing most of their attention on those students who require the least amount of effort to teach. Most teachers here don't have enough training to handle the needs of individual students who may require more attention than others, which is a shame. Every teacher should be concerned whether each student in their class is able to understand and absorb the materials. Teachers here are also not receptive to concerned parents who would like more feedback on their child's progress and who work with their children outside of the school. If your child has any type of learning disability, don't even think about enrolling in this school. They will do nothing for you or your child.

We moved from NY when my daughter was entering 6th grade. (1 1/2 years ago) We were coming from a higly rated district with exceptional parent involvement and an advanced music program. We are pleasantly surprised at the outstanding music program in this school, the quality of the teachers, and although any school could use more parent involvement, there is a good amount of dedicated parents at this school.

My son just completed his first year (6th grade) at Westglades Middle School. My wife and I found the school to be a safe and effective learning institution. We had plenty of interaction throughout the year with his teachers and found the school overall to be "Above Average" in all ways.

Great school the best middle school in broward and Palm Beach counties, advanced courses on par with the courses found in the North east. Good teachers and small class sizes.
I love this school. The teachers here teach thoroughly, without boring the students to death.

It is an ok school, not satisfied with the lunches but the principal is great.
My son just recently graduated from WMS and had three fabulous years there. Ms. Flynn is an outstanding principal in every area. She leads a great staff who respect her and the community. The students feel respected by the staff. There is a positive environment, which is so essential for learning.

This is an amazing school with a very supportive and dedicated staff. The academic achievements and the out of school service programs are paramount. The average student comes from an UMC family with quite a bit of parental involvement. Westglades has an amazing principal, Christine Flynn who clearly is dedicated to her school. A+++

i think the academic programs are ok. don't have much experience with the public school system. i like the school's environment in general and my kid is getting recognition for efforts on an individual basis.

WMS is an excellent school for the average to the high acheiving student. Overall, the teachers are excellent. Because of its size, it is not a good place for a student who may need more individualized attention and structure. There is strong parent support and involvement which leads to successful students. Unfortunately, though, I had to withdraw my student because he was not receiving what he needed. He does have a learning disability, an IEP and still was not reading on grade level. He is doing much better in a smaller class size setting.

We were pleased with Westglades for the most part. Teachers were good, and variety of class choices was also good. Administration was always visible and accessable. One thing they could do to improve is to enable the 8th graders to change their class 'mix' - that is have different classes with different students, not just those they have in their home room. The kids are with the same group of kids all day, as they are in primary school. The children would benefit by getting to know more of the other students in their grade before entering high school, as well as get used to changing classes independantly, not in a group.

Very involved and caring teachers. Great music program. Challenging curriculum, especially in math.

Westglades is absolutely excellent! It is a newly constructed school and so the facility is quite nice. There are no portables and the technology is state of the art. Discipline at this school is no-nonsense, and disruption is pretty much not tolerated. There is a plentiful supply of extracurricular opportunities, and parents seem to be very involved. My child who just moved from Georgia is on an honors track at Westglades and is adequately challenged.
