My son was at this school for one year and I am glad I transferred him to another school. He was struggling with his grades and the teachers did not seem to care or help. I made a few visits to the school to talk to them, but they made it seem like it was a nuisance. I'm definitely not letting my youngest son go here.
PHS gives many opportunities for students to shine. Whether it is being involved in clubs, sports, taking advanced classes at PHCC or AP classes. I believe that the professional faculty at Pasco High has helped me better myself for the future by providing me with a great education and support. I am glad they are becoming successful with academics and athletics.
Pasco High School provides a friendly atmosphere for learning. Students are provided with many learning opportunities. The school offers Honors, Advanced Placement and Dual Enrollment courses for students. Although the school is culturally diverse, the campus is well supervised and the students are disciplined.
Pasco High School overall will provide a good academic background if the student and/or parents are self motivators. The freshman and sophomore years are to easy, 'filled with fluff'. Even at the honors level some of the classes involve lots of busy work or art projects. Then the junior and senior level it is moved at such a high level it is difficult for many students to adjust after the two previous years. Dual enrollment and AP courses for the most part truly offer a challenge. The staff and administration are personable and friendly, but the curriculum needs to be more challenging from the very beginning.
Pasco High school is in a difficult position. It is the oldest school in the district and has an undeserved bad reputation. However, there are plenty of opportunities for students to excel if they choose to do so. Advanced Placement programs are very successful. In addition, the dual enrollment program with PHCC offers many options to ALL of the students, whether they want vocational training or want to try to graduate with their AA degree. Those students who are committed to receiving a good education will be happy here because they are responded to very well. There are many dedicated teachers and administrators who try their best to make the school successful.
I am very displeased at the education my children are recieving at this school. They are not challenged enough.
The quality of academics is down right pathetic, even the honors classes did not provide a challenge. Students were given minimal expectations, and much of the classroom time was spent goofing off around 'busy work'. There were many many times where absolutely nothing constructive was done during an entire course period, due to 'distractions' of pep rallys and other extra cirricular activities. The AP classes, however, did provide suitable cirriculum, but remedial classes offer nothing to the majority of students. Sports seem to be the ruling extra-cirricular activity at PHS.
Little did we know how great we had it at this school. A move to another area brought realization crashing right to our door. Although I had run-ins with a few of the staff and teachers, I feel this school is filled with caring, motivated individuals. Some of the teachers in this school have taught generations of families. My girls very much miss this environment and would return to what they consider their extended family if the they could. Teachers, thank you for showing up for parent meetings, staying after school, and going that extra mile to ensure my girls got it. Their test scores and GPAs say it all.
