My son is in the Alpha Program. I understand that not every school has this available. It should be! My child has come from a class room size of 25 in the 'regular class' to a class size of 12 in the Alpha Program. He has been allowed to advance in his studies ie: reading, math, etc. and to work at his ability level ( which is higher than the class level) I would like to see our legislation enforce the smaller classroom size so ALL children can benefit from it and advance to their ability level. I also like the teacher involvement that has taken place with the smaller class size. On the down-side, which I know not only does this school do, but all schools at all levels, Elementary to High school...instead of teaching reading, writing and arithmatic, they are teaching the FCAT! Everybody is so involved in making sure children can bubble in an answer on a scantron paper, that all the energy is going there instead of making sure the basics are strongly laid. I am very disappointed in that our government has imposed this FCAT on our children and teachers.
