Profile Completeness

ADVANCED

Want to improve this school’s profile? You can!

All schools on GreatSchools begin with BASIC completeness, which includes important information like contact details and test scores. It’s up to the school community to take the next steps. As a parent or community member, you can share what you know with other families by writing a review or answering a few questions about what the school offers. As a school leader, you can upload photos, describe school programs, and more with an Official school profile.

The completeness meter moves to INTERMEDIATE, then ADVANCED, and finally HONOR ROLL as you complete the following: 10 or more reviews, at least 1 photo, and 9 program questions parents find helpful.

My school is an exciting place to learn. The teachers care and give all of us a chance to improve our grades as well as our behavior. The assistant principal Ms. Ortiz is a GREAT influence on us. She is preparing us for the real world, she is dedicated and hard working. My first year at Olsen was really difficult. I had multiple problems and Ms. Ortiz was always there for me. She has patience and the ability to work with students in a way none of the other teachers or administrators can. There all kinds of activities and groups for everybody to join. Olsen middle has many opportunities for your child to develop. An Awesome Olsen Student.

I think this school is a great example of a neighborhood school. The principal, Kim Flynn has really had a great impact on the educational environment and has incorporated the basic skills of reading writing and math applications in all the subjects which gives the student every day applications of what they are learning. In my daughter's 6th grade math class they would spend part of the period practicing their writing skills and in science they were required to keep a daily journal. I would have liked the educational team to be more interested in individual students nd their strengths and weaknesses but understandably with the lack of appropriate funding from the state level they are over worked and underpaid. I msut say the 6th grade assistant principal, Brian Kingsley is outstanding in motivating the students and made me feel, as a parent, a really important member of the educational team.

My son has been in a private school for six years. Not only did my child (and myself) have a transition from elementary to middle this year, but we also transferred from private to public for the first time. The entire staff at Olsen have been so comforting and caring. The professionalism and love starting with the Principle down to the janitors is absolutely amazing. I attended parent orientation this week and met all of my son's teacher. Each and every one of them are extremely dedicated to the children. I didn't think there was any possible way I could be more impressed; until last night when I met the teachers. Not only do I love the teachers, but my son does as well. I know my son is going to excel this year, with the help of the awesome staff at Olsen.

I am an upcoming 8th grader a Olsen middle school, and I must say, I love it! I feel welcomed everyday that I enter the school. I am in the Gifted program, so my classes are really small, and the material is explained and taught with much more ease. My teachers,( which I've had for three years) are awesome! The sports are great also. The teams are looked at more like a family than a team, I was on the Volleyball team, and I felt accepted like any person would welcome a brother or sister.I believe that the parents are included in the school decisions. I say this because my mother is a teacher, and she tells me how parents are worried about their children's grades or whatever. But on the short..., I love 'Awesome Olsen', This school is amazing! If you want a secure learning environment, Olsen rules!

If you like safety, this school has it. I was a current student at Olsen. From my time being here, I could say that the teachers are very nice and pays full attention to everyone. They also educate you 100% of the time. This school makes you feel like you're family because they people that work here treat you like their own kids: joking around here and there, and always helping you out when you have a situation even if it doesn't have to do with school. They're the best! The activities at this school is pretty ok. I've been in the basics and I have to say that I enjoyed most of them. You don't have to be a genius to attend this school, just pay attention and do your work and you'll succeed. Best School Ever!

Hello I am a seventh grader here at Olsen and in the Gifted Program. This school, or 'Awesome Olsen,' is an excellent place to learn and make new friends. my teachers are amazing, and also have very interesting classes. We have morning announcements, 'Wave TV,' where students get to enjoy newscasting, camera, music choice, and many other things. We have sports, including softball, with the coolest coach around, Mr. Ferelli, and most of my friends (girls) play on the team. We also have soccer, basketball, track, and volleyball. The electives we have are home economics, band, teen health, P.E., Spanish, and also art. Most teachers here are quite hard, and push us to be our best.If you do thing of sending your kid here, Ms. Flynn, our principal, would welcome them with open arms.

Hiyas! I'm an eight grader here at OMS and I think this school is cool! The teachers here are so nice and it's so nice to be here. I think the quality of academic programs is pretty good and stuff. There's a ton of afterschool activities to choose from, like soccer, basketball, flag football, band, drama club, and some other stuff! Parents aren't really too involved though. This school is so great and I'll miss is so much when I finally go to high school. And like they say, this school is awesome! ~Patrick

This school is one of the best I've ever encountered. I'm a seventh grader here at olsen, in the gifted program, and I have to say I love it. Every teacher is not just nice, but gets the job done! Though *some* of the kids need attitude adjustments, I don't really mind. I have lots of friends here at olsen, and enjoy everybody. The only downside is the principal leadership- I don't even know who he/she is yet, and its almost the end of the first quarter.

This school has a good gifted and advanced program. Good tutoring services for free afterschool are available. The staff and administration are very devoted to advancint the students. The sports and extracurricular programs are outstanding. The problem is that the mainstream contains inclusion students that should be isolated and sometimes they cause problems. There should be more small classes available for them. The free lunch students make up about 53% of the school and there are some conditions that are overcrowded. This is being alleviated by some students being sent to Attucks through a boundary change. There are at least 3 classrooms with ESE students and much attention and good tutoring is being given to them. The grounds contains small hubs of classrooms and provides much room to practice sports. There are also many field trips provided by the teachers that allow the students supplimentary education benefits.

This is my daughter's third year at Olsen and she likes her school, teachers and friends she has made there. I also like the teachers and the school overall attitude towards educating the kids and treating them with respect and enforcing discipline at the same time. The only negative thing i can say is that I don't see a lot of parent involment or at least more presence in the school activities in general.

The principal of this school pretty much has it all together and the job she is doing is ok, not great. As far as supervision after school, there is none. If something should happen to your child after school and it's on campus, you will need to wait until the next day to resolve it, and sometimes it doesn't get resolved at all, then they will send you to BSO. If you want someone from the school to help your child after school they will tell you that they can't and that it is not their job.
