INTERMEDIATE

Want to improve this school’s profile? You can!

All schools on GreatSchools begin with BASIC completeness, which includes important information like contact details and test scores. It’s up to the school community to take the next steps. As a parent or community member, you can share what you know with other families by writing a review or answering a few questions about what the school offers. As a school leader, you can upload photos, describe school programs, and more with an Official school profile.

The completeness meter moves to INTERMEDIATE, then ADVANCED, and finally HONOR ROLL as you complete the following: 10 or more reviews, at least 1 photo, and 9 program questions parents find helpful.

If you want your kid suspended for 3-7 days at a time.....I agree with another reviewer, send them here. They have a small school atmosphere but they do very little work and the kids need it academically so they miss out. it is difficult to get the extra services your child needs while there as they do not pay much attention to IEPS, etc. Check your contract carefully, because apparently according to a Sun Sentinel article they have over 38 law suites are most are for suing the parents for money. Also, if they can't handle a behavior, which they claim they are experts in, they send them home or refer it back to the parent.

My daughter attends Westham Academy she is doing so well it is a complete turn on about for her she enjoys going to school and looks forward to the next day the teachers there are great they love the kids and it shows she would not receive the attention that she gets here in public schools or other private schools

The staff knows how to bring out the the best in our son. They have created a loving and caring environment that is nurturing. The entire class has made tremendous strides.

AEF is a WONDERFUL school, always willing to help your child. Our son has done two summer camps and is in his second year in AEF. He has come out of his shell, and loves school. Class sizes are small and teachers can focus on each child needs so they can reach their potential. AEF works on all aspects of learning which includes social and life skills. Saying all that I myself only concern is that academics seem not to always be on top of the list. Rewards are given which are primarily appears are for behavior which is great if you have behavior issue but in my case we need more focus on academics.

The AEF School has helped my daughter achieve standards that would not have been attainable in the public school system. AEF School has a low ratio of students to teachers; therefore, the teachers have a real understanding of each child. The teachers are passionate about there job. They know there purpose is to make sure that each child succeeds in life through achedemics, social skills, and self-confidence. My daughter has been at AEF since third grade and now she is at the high school where she is maintaining achedemic standards, interacting with all her friends, and truly happy. We love this school!

At AEF SCHOOL my son has thrived in many areas since being a student here. They focus on social skills and academics with a tactful, GRACEFUL approach. The teachers at this school JUST KNOW HOW. The Administrative staff is compassionate and knowledgeable too, you will NEVER call or walk in and the office not know who or what your concerns are. This school has truly changed our lives. It is a jewel that gave us hope. THANK YOU AEF STAFF!

AEF An alternative education school that promotes the difference. The acronym does not at first sight suggest its definition, nor does it reflect the school's mission. AEF is not even the traditional "village" often expected by parents. It takes time to understand and evaluate what makes AEF different than other institutions of its kind. One can only profile the answer in the subtle result that appeases parents' anxiety and shapes pupils' aspirations. AEF's dedicated teaching and support staff has been able to rebuild the "village" no longer found in too many circles. Let's not allow that difference to remain a secret. A better society can flourish from the AEF's experience. G.L

AEF has not only enriched my daughter's life but the entire family. They get it! They understand that not every child learns the same way. They understand that every child is different, special in their own way. I appreciate and I am grateful for AEF and for what they do to enrich children's lives. THANK YOU TO THE ENTIRE STAFF.

My son wakes up every morning excited to go to school to learn! AEF has given him the confidence he needed to be successful. He is trying his hardest and it s not easy but together I know he will be great. The teachers are well trained and experienced but more importantly they get it. They understand. AEF is the perfect school for our son and we are thankful every day we found it.

My school is very good at getting children motivated to learn new things. They make sure all students get along with one another and no one gets bullied. My son couldn't write legibly of read but after being at the school for one school year I could read items he was writing and he started to read outloud to me. The teachers really care about the children and sit with them one on one to teach them any assignment they don't understand fully.

Individualized education plan and behavioral, emotional, and social support and intervention this school truly addresses every aspect of your child's development and educates the whole person not just academics. Every staff member is knowledgeable, understanding and empathetic and they support the whole family while staying focused on the child. So many opportunities have been opened for my child by this school, their staff and their philosophy. Cannot thank them enough!

I tried everything with my son and thought there was no school that would be a perfect match, that is until I found AEF Schools! This is his 4th year at AEF and I couldn t be more pleased in the progress he has made socially and academically. He is now an A student and strives to go out of his way to help out at school and at home! Thank you AEF!!!

This is very good school, especially for children finish their day frustrated because they do not adapt to the way public school education. AEF has been the best choice we could do as a family. Today my son has excellent grades and I can say that someone has become satisfied and very happy for their accomplishments.

This school has been a godsend. They have helped us raise our son from an unhappy & unruly 3rd grader whose school board counselors wanted to send him to the "Jail" School to a happy mostly well adjusted tenth grader. He is on schedule to attend college in a couple of years. Mr.RED.

This is a great school with small teacher to student ratio. I would recommend this schoolmy child went from not wanting to go to school to who now loves school and has been at this school for 3 years now and would not go back to a public school.

My son had difficulty making and keeping friends in The Broward County Public School System. He was bullied and didn't focus during his classes We decided to enrollied him in AEF in Davie, FL for 4, 5 & 6th grade and each year he does better than the year before. He is popular and loves going to school every single day. I never thought this was possible before AEF. The staff consists of caring professionals that are alway willing to help whenever necessary. We have a happy, well educated child who has lots of friends. He also loves the staff and school year. So do we.

We came to AEF when our oldest son was referred to the Summer Camp. He had just finished his Kindergarten year in a parochial school that was simply a nightmare. The whole school year we were asked to come in for meetings with the teacher and principal because he was unable to sit still in class, didn t do his work, and had temper tantrums. He was diagnosed with ADD along with some OCD behaviors. That summer while at Camp AEF, he had a blast and started learning how to appropriately handle himself so that he could learn. Attending the seminar held regarding the regular school program we realized that this was what he needed. We are so glad we made this choice. His diagnosis was updated this year to High Functioning Autism and they have started revamping their approaches to teaching him to better fit his needs. He Loves his school, his teachers & has made some great friends. Our younger son was diagnosed with ADHD 2 years ago and falling behind at Montessori school AEF welcomed him in with open arms. He has settled in fine and is very happy and comes home daily with reports of what fun things they did or learned. AEF is part of our family and takes care of us like we are theirs.

AEF is a great alternative to Public Schools. The children are not pressured into taking the FCAT and taught to pass this test. They take the SAT which is a much better way to see where the children need to improve. I highly recommend AEF schools.

My daughter just started at AEF after attending their summer camp. I am pleased with the smaller class setting which allows the teacher to focus on the needs of the students. They really make an effort to communicate with the parents through e-mail and regular conferences. The staff is great at helping to promote a positive environment with parental involvement.

AEF is an excellent school. The children are happy there. The teachers do a great job. The school has EARNED an excellent academic reputation. I m sorry for the parents who have had bad experiences here. That has not been my experience. This is an excellent school and it is because of the commitment as a parent and staff to help my son do well and get good grades, I hear from my son how the teachers are always there, always around, talking with them, encouraging them. As a parent that makes me feel good. I want the school staff to be supportive and attentive to my child. That my son receives a good education, feels comfortable, safe and even happy at his school is the best I could hope for. My best advise for parents who are looking for an alternative education is to do your homework tour the school ask questions , view the web site, trust your instincts .

Not the best school if you are looking for education. The school can have better communication skills. There are no IEPs if you want outside services like speech and OT.

It a okay school.I would recommend this school for special need kids. But for advance kids the program here are nowhere near challenging. The front office admin are not that friendly. The best teacher their is Mr.Marrero very very kind guy has a passion for teaching. The worst teacher there would be the the science teacher and the art teacher. My son came home saying that the science teacher was very boring and the art teacher likes to send kids out of class. My son doesn't goto to this school anymore.

The pressure of FCAT was too much for my child and the constant drama with school bullies. This school has done wonders at building back my sons confidence, organizational skills, and just wanting to participate in school activities again. Kentwood's friendly staff truly cares for the well being of the students. I love the curriculum, when he was in public school he had the worst handwritting, the teacher would just give him incomplete for a grade, today his writting is neat and his grades make us proud.

Our son continues to excell at Kentwood since my last review posted in March 2009. This year he was given a certificate for Academic Achievement and was on the school Honor Society. We are quite proud of him and love the teachers. They all treat each student with respect, fairness and patience and receive it back ten-fold. The additions to the programs get better each year with focus on academic and social needs and requirements. We could be happier. Hooah Kentwood!

Our son had come from a really abominable public school ESE placement and a subsequent private shool placement where they met none of his academic needs. Kentwood has been an absolute Godsend for us. Our son is happy and excelling in his studies. When he arrived, he could not read or do arithmetic and now he is working at grade level or above in all subjects. He has made friends and loves his teachers. The staff and methods at Kentwood are truly exceptional: each student is seen as the individual they are and treated with love and respect. We really don't know what we would do without Kentwood and thank God every day we found it.

I am proud to work with the staff members at Kentwood. They are dedicated, hard working, and empathetic. We all work extremely hard and our days are lengthy and mentally exhausting, however, we see the fruits of our labors. Every day children smile and share their lives with us. Every week another family thanks us for changing their lives. Every year we send more graduates to University, College, and the work force fully prepared for awaiting challenges. We do make a difference. We might not be successful with every student and family (who is?); but we try our best and our commitment and effort is never questioned. Our program may not be right for every child or every parent. However, for the children and parents our program is right for, we are extremely successful and our results cannot be challenged.

They really give each student alot of individual attention and the results are great! My son now takes responsibility for his actions, is more socially aware, has better impulse control, is better able to express himself, has learned alot academically, is more self confident and happier. Every day I am grateful for Kentwood!

Kentwood is THE BEST School of its kind and at what they do. My son entered there in 7th Grade and is now ready to Graduate and enter Collage. The school has grown from a one campus(broward) under 100 students to its current full blown 2 campus fully accredited High School Program. I thank GOD for the day my family and The Kentwood Family crossed paths.

Kentwood is a school for children who do not do well in a typical school setting. Our program is individualized to meet our students' needs, whether behavioral, academic, etc. Since I started teaching here, I've seen students transform from insecure or frustrated children into confident, happy, and successful students. It is amazing and rewarding to be able to work here and see the effects of the program on these students and their families.

Kentwood provides a setting for students who need extra help with social, physical and problem-solving skills. I have seen so many extraordinary changes in students of all ages since I have began teaching at Kentwood. We nuture and strengthen their assets and work on improving their weaknesses. Our program works and it shows in our students!

My child has attended this Kentwood for 3 years now and could not be happier! Although I feel the school could do better job with academics, I think they do a wonderful job at teaching these 'sometimes very difficult children' the skills they'll need to survive and succeed in life. My child has improved immensely to the point that she now has and kept many friendships, something she wasn't able to do in a Public School Setting, she has confidence in herself and her social and behavioral have improved so much that I have family members asking me what I did to change it! The staff are great and seem to really enjoy working with these children. My only concern again is the academics, which they've been trying to improve! FIVE STARS KENTWOOD! KEEP DOING A GREAT JOB!

My son had many challenges being in a group setting. However, has an IQ of 138. We needed a school that would focus on teaching him how to behave in a classroom, respect his teachers, peers and parents. We needed a school that would motivate, encourage and elevate his own leadership abilities and self confidence. Because if he is not able to master basic life skills, how much academics he learns is useless. This is our 2nd year at Kentwood. We are returning next year, too. My son is succeeding for the first time in a school/group setting thanks to the staff and teachers at Kentwood.

My child attended ninth grade at Kentwood. I felt the teachers had more problems than the students...and the course studies where lacking. When I transfered my son to the public system he was so far behind he required tutors. He is now a straight A student after having to make up much work. As far as I'm concerned the experience was a total waste of my childs time and my resources.

This is my 2nd year at Kentwood Prep and my son has excelled and has gained so much confidence in his work and personality.I am very happy with the staff and how they treat the children,I have never heard a staff member yell or treated a child unkindly. Kentwood teaches my child the study skills, confidence and different learning techniques he needs to excel academicaly and not just teach to the FCAT.

This school was a total waste of time for my child. He attended 4th grade and had absolutely no homework all year long. They never addressed academics - just social/emotional behavior. My son should have had some cursive instruction, but had none. When we left to attend a different school for his 5th grade, the new school required cursive handwriting, but my son could not keep up! The staff is too harsh on students, and I witnessed with my own eyes a teacher grabbing a student and forcing them against a wall. They did not want the parents to be involved at all and suggested you 'leave your children in our hands'. I wouldn't recommend this school to my enemy!
