Want to improve this school’s profile? You can!

All schools on GreatSchools begin with BASIC completeness, which includes important information like contact details and test scores. It’s up to the school community to take the next steps. As a parent or community member, you can share what you know with other families by writing a review or answering a few questions about what the school offers. As a school leader, you can upload photos, describe school programs, and more with an Official school profile.

The completeness meter moves to INTERMEDIATE, then ADVANCED, and finally HONOR ROLL as you complete the following: 10 or more reviews, at least 1 photo, and 9 program questions parents find helpful.

I have two children who attend Lourdes Academy. Last week, on Monday September 24, I saw Mr. O Dell, the principal, outside in the carpool line, soaking wet from the rain. I saw him using the umbrella to cover only the children. I asked him why don t you use the umbrella for yourself and he answered that he was using it to protect the children from the rain. I thought that this was an amazing act. Mr. O Dell is an incredible person, who has always been very welcoming to my family and me. As a mom, I am very appreciative and grateful of all that he does.

Thank you Lourdes for always being there for my child and for us as a family. It most certainly is a place where children can learn from the inside out. Children leave there knowing that they will be productive human being in the world of today. I am very grateful for the staff and the community over all.

I am a graduate of Lourdes, I am now in law school and one day practice family law. My beginnings at Lourdes where one the best times of my life and I will forever be grateful for the supportive staff and loving atmosphere that i did receive there and always receive when I visit. Thank you Lourdes for being part of my life.

An excellent place where children are taught how to be productive adults in society. A child can learn to read and write anywhere, but they can't learn the value of the heart. Lourdes Academy is a place where the teachers, administration, and staff care. Each child is nurtured and loved. I make and will continue to make monetary sacrifices to send my daughter to Lourdes. My eldest child just graduated this past June. My youngest daughter is still at the school and loves it. She is thriving. There is no place in Daytona that I would send my child. I believe in Lourdes!!!!!

Lourdes Academy is a truly unique school. I have had four children attending Catholic schools in Florida and this school offers things that none of the others did -- not just academics, but forming character. The children start their day in church with prayer and encouragement from our principal. Our pastor is committed to teaching them how to take their faith out into the world and make a difference in the community. One way he does this is by making it possible for disadvantaged children to attend this school because he, and our parishioners who fund the scholarships, believe that education changes lives. The teachers work very hard to meet the varied needs of their students. In addition, the children are learning that to be Catholic is to be joyful. They have a program called "We Celebrate What We Believe." All kinds of feast days are celebrated and the children look forward to the skits, processions, interesting food, and arts and crafts that are part of this program. Not only does it teach our Catholic students to love their rich heritage, it gives our non-Catholic students a positive image of our faith to share with the community.

My children have been at Lourdes Academy going on 5 years. I have a child going into 7th and 4th. Yes, a few years ago were challenging. However, since Mr. O'Dell has taken over has prinicpal the moral is wonderful! The teachers are happy and my children look forward to going to school. Mr. O'Dell holds the children and the teachers accountable. As in every school, there will always be kid drama. I have always been able to talk openly to the teachers and the principal, Mr. O'Dell. One of my children has had discipline issues. Theses teachers and the school circled around my child and have worked to nuture and keep my child on the right track. I don't know that this would happen any place else. My child has grown and is growing into a bright, respectful teenager. My children are A/B some C students. I don't always look at the grades as I look at the entire picture. Lourdes has the entire picture.

I am a former student at our lady of lourdes (lourdes academy), most of the children there are rude and mean. I was bullied there for no reason, i have no problems nor am i mean. i was called fat and ugly. The principal never did a thing but talk to these kids, I'm now happy with public school. DON'T SEND YOUR KID THERE!

Lourdes Academy is a great school! My children have been at Lourdes Academy for the past 7 years and this year has been the best yet! With the new adminstration, the energy is positive and the students are focused on respect, reponsibility and right choices.I see in each of my children gaining loving and caring attitudes with well rounded decision making skills to excel academically and with daily life lessons choices. The wide selection of extra circular activities allows each of my children to choose the right activity for them. We have experienced volleyball, basketball, chorus, band, sign language classes, and spiritual ministries (alter serving, lectors, ushers, and music ministry). My children are touched daily is a faith-filled and loving principal, teachers and staff. I am thankful when I leave them in the morning for school I know in the afternoon that they will only become better students and Christians.

Check out the school's website! Visitors to our school constantly comment that we have smiling students, caring teachers, a new principal (as of July 2010), and a wonderful family environment. Lourdes Academy IS a Catholic School of Excellence!

We are not satisfied with the fact that our children's school is so far behind the times. This school uses many books that Volusia County Schools use yet certain teachers fail to use these books, leaving parents at a loss as to what their children are actually learning. When our children go on to public high schools, we feel they will suffer tremendously. For administration, please utilize the books that we pay for. As parents, we praise the teachers who have chosen to remain with a school that is failing. Thank you to the teachers and staff who have left or soon will. We know you believe in our children. It is the unfair administrative decisions that have failed this school. Administration & Parish Staff, please learn from your mistakes. Thank you.

As volunteers for school and parish for years, we are disheartened by the decreased parishioners. Our parish was once the best Catholic Church in area, not today. Teachers are hardpressed to work with such unruly and disrespectful children especially the 5th through 8th graders. Discipline consists of one hour detentions after school for one day. Back In our day, we would have to scrub the bathrooms, blackboards, sweep and mop floors on a Saturday for eight hours! We believe today's children would think twice if they knew one or two of their Saturdays would be spent doing hard labor at school. Try it. We would not recommend this school if it doesn't change its discipline practices.

I have 4 children in this school. My oldest will be graduating next year and my youngest is in Early Childhood Center. They love their school. Each child is unique but the teachers work on fostering skills that will help each child to become independent thinkers that crave more education. The best part is community: the close connection all of the children have with each other. It is great when preschool children can refer to a seventh grader by name and vise versa. PE and sports, music, & art are not always offered at elementary and middle schools. I recommend this school to any parent who wants their child to grow up strong, loving, and well rounded.

It's more than a school, it's a family within a school! These teachers teach more than ABC's they show them compassion, understanding, and give them encouragement. The kids in turn, will take that with them forever!

Lourdes is a very close knit community. Everyone knows and cares for each other. Education is a top concern but 'repect, responsibility, and right choices' go hand in hand.

My daughter has a mild learning disability known as central auditory processing disorder. We have had her in two schools prior to Lourdes. One private and one public. The other schools did not take the time or resources to work with her and she was not learning anything and was failing tests. when I inquired at the public middle school, they told me there was nothing they could for her. Lourdes has been wonderful. The teachers are in communication with me every day. They work with my daughter and give her extra time to complete assignments. They encourage her strenghts. But most importantly she is learning. Her self esteem has greatly improved and she is getting B's an C's. Lourdes cares about the students in every aspect and I see that over and over on a daily basis. I am so happy to be part of this wonderful community.

My daughter will be entering 7th grade and has been at Our Lady of Lourdes since 2nd grade. She excels academically, but also the school provides great character building opportunities through Religious Education and Honors program. Teachers are very accessible and caring.

I don't where to begin. My eldest daughter started in the school in the third grade, she will be entering 7th next year. My baby started this year, she is in PK-3. I attended Catholic School from K-12, and my experiemce was awesome. I didnt just recieve a great education, I had God in my heart. Having grown up with the Catholic Faith I wanted my children to experience the same thing. My children are not only getting a great education, they are receiving God. They are being molded to become productive adults. Thats what I love most about Lourdes. I must also say that I have never come across Educators like the ones at Lourdes. Caring, loving, strict, sensitive, energetic, knowledgeable Teachers. I put all my faith in them. I just want to thank the Teachers, Administration, Principal Randlov, and Father Phil for enriching our lives. There is no other place that we want to be. Lourdes Academy Rocks!!!!!!!

Our children receive a quality education from caring teachers. Teachers willing to go the extra mile in assisting those that need more help or attention. Our children are taught everyday to respect themselves and others, to take responsibility for their actions, to make good choices and to make a difference. This is also part of their school creed that they recite daily. Education is very important, but so are values, integrity and right choices. Our school is awesome.

We too have children at this school and highly recommend this school. Our three children are receiving a superior education. Thank you teachers! Our children are also learning wonderful core values that will continue to remain with them throughout their lives. We agree that improvements are needed, many students have left, even a couple of great teachers including the previous music teacher whom our children loved! Some people stay, some people go, part of life! We feel very optimistic that LA will continue to teach, coach, guide our youngsters next year like they have been doing for many years.

Thankful that a concerned party emailed this rating website to the parents and teachers of Lourds Academy. Email suggested we give our thoughts about the good, bad and the ugly. All three are present at the school but am very hopeful that the present teachers, PTO, and new next year staff will turn this place around for the Good. Prior to an open house, a 'Round Table' discussion should be required be conducted with all concerned parties. While remaining optimistic, I do not see this in the upcoming future, that is why I am thankful for this site. As suggested, it appears everyone emailed is providing daily reviews that are complimentary and not so complimentary. Let's use this site to express the pros and cons and hope that the clergy listen to our thoughts, prayers and ideas and turn this school back to it excellence.

From the mouthes of babes, Wednesday at Lourdes is 'Fun!' After being dropped to school, they go directly to church for about 30 minutes, return to class, unload backpacks, gym bags, lunch boxes, hand in homework. Children then engage in a subject for a short time then return to mass for one hour or more then go back to class and have bathroom/water breaks. Their teachers teach a subject for a short time then if they have great behavior, allow them play time in class, a movie or a second recess before escorting them back to church for end of the day prayer. Remember Wednesdays are early release days, if we were not working parents, one of us would be better off staying home with them on Wednesdays and teaching them ourselves!! Get a grip LA! Teach our children!

We are not of catholic faith but for six years have felt welcome at this school. My wive just speak to me this morning telling me she feel this school now wants only children of catholic faith or those wishing to convert. My grands feel they no longer welcome at this school because they of different faith. OLL used to welcome different cultures and faiths. We used to love OLL but now we feel like outcasts if our grands don't convert.

We teachers were elated to find such a website to allow us to voice our concerns to our superiors without the threat of being disciplined. If we go to our superiors with new ideas or ask that prior policies be reinstated, many of us feel we are not being heard. We do understand the art of compromise and are more than willing to engage in it. Our supervisory staff appear to possess the personas that they know what is best, this is not so, on so many levels. Please allow us to do our job. We need to let go of the current militant style of running this school and return to our prior methods which included teaching academics, religion, compassion, & empathy to our students, as well as ENFORCING DISCIPLINE. Thank you for listening.

My children attended this school; for 5yrs & 2yrs, with great thought I pulled them out after 6 hard months of fighting for their academic and catholic education. It was the hardest decision I have ever made, however when you have a principal whose hands are tied and no support from the priest or diocese. It is sad that this school is going in the wrong direction. A scholarship should be earned and if given should be worked for to keep.

The teachers of this school are truly amazing individuals dedicated to providing students with interesting and challenging curriculums. Family involvement is strong at this school, as well as the PTO. The athletic program is excellent, as well as the other speciality classes offered. The only complaints I have are with upper manage-ment. In order to keep donations flowing in, they are jeopardizing children's safety and innocence. This school's management is more interested in running fundraisers 24/7. While understanding that monies are required to run a private school, management pressures families on the brink of foreclosures, facing unemployment and homelessness to give their dime to the school. If it weren't for the teachers, coaches, secretaries, custodians, lunch staff, afterschool staff, PTO, and dedicated families, this school wouldn't be as great as it is. An abundance of thanks is given to them, not upper management.

We have been more than delighted in the quality of this school. We will be sending our youngest child as well the next school year. From the teachers to the extra activities, I would highly suggest this school. The PTO is funding a brand new addition to the play field that will include a new basketball, volleyball and tennis court - there are constant improvements and changes. The environment is enriching and safe - a well rounded education and life experience.

The OLL website leads one to believe that the class sizes are small. One 5th grade this year(2007)has 28 students, a 3rd grade 24. Public schools in Fl. may have no more than 20 students. If a student comes to school without the proper uniform, they are forced to 'walk the line' during recess--walk along a painted line on the concrete. Scholastically the work is challenging, but the curriculum is behind the times with little opportunity for computer skills and contemporary concepts nonexistant. The school constantly has fundraisers asking parents to shell out more and more money. The play field is full of weeds and stickers.

'I sent my children to this school and they found a real community here. Everyone was so nice, they started going to youth group and volunteering with their free time. I also just heard that they are one of 50 schools in the nation that received the Blue ribbon award for excellence. I can not recommend this school enough.'

Academically, Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic School is unmatched in the greater Daytona area. My kids love being involved in the band, plays, and basketball team. The PTO seems to be fairly involved, however I am not currently a member due to scheduling issues. Overall, we love Our Lady of Lourdes and feel our children will benefit from their time there for year to come.

My children transferred to Our Lady of Lourdes from another private school in Daytona Beach. The difference in the quality of education, teachers, and environment is like night and day. The faculty and staff are very involved with each student on an individual level and are dedicated to providing them excellence in education. My children have flourished in this rich environment and I am very pleased with our experience. Highly recommend!
