This school is a great school that involves parents. The teachers are great with the children. My family all brought there children to this school because no other school Elementary School in Deltona gives the proper education like Discovery. Elementry schools are very important these years your chlidren grow up they learn the most. Discovery seems to be doing something right.

Horrible school, I have a 2nd and 3rd grader. Teachers are lazy and not knowlegable, Teachers and school are very unorganized, no communication nor care in their students

Both my boys (K-3 & k-1) went there and I have had a different experience with both. I love the staff, they remember faces so well. My boys love their teachers, staff and principle. It was hard to communicate with my eldest teachers who was in a regular class but my youngest, who is autistic, was in the ESE program and it was beyond what I expected. The teachers are amazing and Mrs Duffer has a heart of gold. If your child has an IEP that requires them to be in a class for children with special needs, I DEFINITELY recommend this school for your child. The regular classes are average but this school definitely excels on the program available for children with special needs.

I Was a student there for 4-5 that's a pretty good school, the teachers are great there , sometimes the office staff can be a bit rude but it's a great school. -Submitted by a old student
My son is starting his 4th year at Discovery so I have been there long enough to state that most of the teachers are excellent. In my opinion this is half the battle in a system where school staffs, parents and students most work together for the success of our children. At Discovery, unfortunately this is not possible. The Principal is unapproachable and is not good at resolving student conflicts. The new front office staff is rude and not at all concern with student safety. (Ex: I have walked in to pick up my son early twice and was never ask for identification, again front office staff is new and don t know who I am). It s hard to get parents involved and volunteering in school activities when the staff is so unpleasant.

This is my son's third year at this school and I agree here that the office staff and principal are cold. They have also been rude in some cases. Though my sons teachers throughout the years have been pretty awesome. My son needs more challenging academic programs and better school leadership. Also, I hate the fact that they pass a student to the next grade with an FCAT sore of 1 on Math just because he scored a 3 on the Reading part. What success does this create? I'm looking to transfer my son from this school.

This is my grandsons second year at Discovery I have observed a healthy parent teacher relationship focused on helping the children appreciate and enjoy their education.
The teachers make sure that each child gets individual attention to help them succeed. The administration & parents go out of their way to make sure we come together for our children. The only thing we lack is funding, winning this would greatly help us help our children!

I have to echo the last two post on this school. The principle has a 'my way or the high way attitude'. There have been more than one occasion where I have tried to communicate with this school only to be brushed off or given a defensive response where they shift the blame. However there are some wonderful teachers there and also some bad ones. I am currently looking into transferring my child to another school.

I rate this school a 2. If I could send my children to another school I would. If you dont know whos who, you cant get a straight answer from anybody. The office staff look at you as if you have 3 heads when you ask them something. I have 1 more year here and I'm out!

I rate this school a 3. The principal is not a 'people' person, therefore, parents feel put off by her. The office staff is very 'cold' to parents, etc., entering the front door of Discovery. I have learned that you have to be in their little 'clique' to fit in at this school.

Seems like a great school. It's not a newer school, but the teachers all seem nice & helpful. They are making improvements & starting to expand a little bit. The principal doesn't seem to be the most approachable person, but the assistant principal seems real friendly.

Large neighborhood school with large hispanic population. Good administration with high teacher turnover.

Discovery has good academic programs for students who need extra help. They have a good amount of extra cirricular activities throughout the day.

My children have attended Discovery Elementary for 2 years. They are both in first grade now and have had very positive experiences at this school. Both children have awesome teachers that have been very helpful and cooperative in helping my children overcome any problems they have had. I look forward to many more great years at Discovery.
