This school is dangerous. Somehow there never seems to be enough supervision during fights, bullying or kids making out in the hall ways. Something big is being missed here. There R some AMAZING teachers, ESPECIALLY in the gifted program which I would rate A+. Sure they stop some fights and some situations but way to many are not being stopped. My kids talk to me, and this is not my first child in middle school. If you can avoid this school I recommend you do I know sometimes, some populations, are harder than others, but for example...I complained, no teacher not even one was at the parent drop-off or pickup area. kids NEED supervision. When I complained I was told someone was sick....OK... so no backup plan? Give me a break, again another excuse. I think the administration needs to stop making excuses & start making some changes. If policies aren't working change them! These kids are depending on you. We owe it to them to have a safe environment 4 them to be able to succeed & learn in school. My son loved middle school until Galaxy he doesn't anymore... I am an involved active parent / retired teacher & I'm telling you honestly .....4 out of 10 was generous.

Judging from some of the other comments here and a 95% dissatisfaction rate, our student has received the same dose of ignorance on how to respond to a child with needs. The uncaring attitude of the staff at this school is grounds for dismissal in my view. The bully problem is a symptom of the inaptitude and lack of training to control disruptive behavior. If you are a parent, I would have second thoughts about having your child get a good education here. Ask questions and tread carefully before sending your student here.
This school is consisted of a faculty that could care less whether your child is being bullied either in or outside of the classroom, or whether your child is failing. I can't believe this school got a 5/10. If it wasn't for the FCAT, and the so called good scores, it is pathetic, if it were my choice I would close down GMS, and send the students to a better school. The faculty and administration are very harsh, for example, if a student has to go to the restroom, but only has 5 minutes, and has to rush because their next class is on the other side of campus, that student would be punished. Now, parents if you have a student that goes to GMS take them out of it. Every day that I went there as a student I was completely tormented and bullied, not just by students, but also teachers. - A former student
I've visited Galaxy one time in my life and frankly it's pretty bad. The students don't seem to click to me and the teachers don't seem professional. I am currently an 8th grader at Heritage Middle School. My school on the other hand scores 9/10 stars and is voted to be the best school in Volusia. If any Galaxy kids want to come to HMS fell free! It's an awesome school with fun teachers and awesome friends. -Melissa
I agree Galaxy Middle School needs alot of work , they said the school wasnt even meeting state standards !!!!!!!!
I have asked for help, none has come this school needs work but is ok help from teachers need to be improved, the school it self needs to be cleaned , so does the students in it, i am a student and i need help but i am ignored

My daughter is in the eight grade this year and since she started in this school has wanted to change schools. In the 6th grade she had a problem with a teacher, which I came to the school, confronted the assistant principal and the teacher and could not keep my daughter in that teacher's class because my daughter felt the teacher did not care to help her in any way and shout it at my daughter for not finishing her work 5 minutes after class started and my daughter was called to leave for a Dr.'s apt. After she was switched from class, the new teacher treated her with respect, talked to her calmly and listened to my daugter's concerns. Also, I have noticed that some teacher's and faculty do not seem to answer your calls and e-mails concerning your child's progress in school or any concern the parent may have.

This school is great but very weird when it comes to the dress code. They allow peircings and guys walk around with shirts on but if your a girl wearing a tank top they make you go to your grades housing office and change into somebody else shirt! And also, while 7th and 8th grade are cozy in nice big buildings with lockers, 6th graders are forced for carry around heavy backpacks portable to portable! And one last thing, They keep it like 80 degrees in the portables!

This school is acutally good. while its true that some teachers dont care about the kids. most of the time they act like that towards the less then educaated kids who are far from just help. but overall for the one year i got to go there it was pretty good sure teachers had their faults but they where good at the job they are hired to do and the kids actully arent that bad i am far from a normal person so if i wasent hating it there im sure most people wont since the year iv been at deltona middle made me realize what a good thing that school was. with that i say for every stupid rule they had there usally was an up side. p.s never goto deltona middle

The school is not a good school and plus the teacher are so mean

The school is nice but the administrators are mean and disrespectful, as well as some of the teachers and princepals. There are 11 different buildings and sometimes they spread your schedual out so far across campus you are late to the same class everyday. When you are in Inschool Suspension or Alternitave Education you rake leaves. Let's not forget that if you are going to the bathroom a teacher can give you a referal for being out of area when you are in the same building as your classroom, even if you have a pass. You have to walk in line with a teacher to lunch like a kindergartener, too.

Galaxy is one of the finest schools in Volusia County. The teachers work endlessly to help each child do his/her very best, most of them without compensation. The administration understand that middle school years are the hardest to get through and are always out on campus to keep everyone safe and moving to their classes.

I give this school a low rating in its effort to handle student issues and call backs to the parent from staff members. 3/10
