Want to improve this school’s profile? You can!

All schools on GreatSchools begin with BASIC completeness, which includes important information like contact details and test scores. It’s up to the school community to take the next steps. As a parent or community member, you can share what you know with other families by writing a review or answering a few questions about what the school offers. As a school leader, you can upload photos, describe school programs, and more with an Official school profile.

The completeness meter moves to INTERMEDIATE, then ADVANCED, and finally HONOR ROLL as you complete the following: 10 or more reviews, at least 1 photo, and 9 program questions parents find helpful.

ADV is a great school! We've been at ADV for several years and love how it has educated our child. Being a charter school, it relies on parent involvement and encourages it. There are many clubs and activities that make it a great place to get an education. Safe, nurturing, challenging. Everything you want in an elementary school. I was shocked when I saw that some a couple of parents decided to spread false rumors and lies to trash their own children's school. Why? I assume because they were 'friends' with the previous principal and can't handle change. Did the school used to have a principal that everyone loved? Yes. Did she know how to run a school? No. She was an educator and did not possess the skills necessary to run a school. She moved on when that became glaringly obvious to anyone who didn't have their head in the sand. The new principal is less touchy-feely, but that's OK. She has extensive knowledge of running a school and that's obvious. The school is financially sound. The teachers recently got health insurance coverage and I heard the other day the board approved a pay raise. Teachers are happy. Kids love it here.

I see students skipping and singing up and down hallways just as they have done at this school forever. These children come into school eager to learn every day. Smiles on little faces, children laughing, learning and performing. That is what I see everyday.

I completely disagree with the people who are trashing the new principal. Ms. Foran is a wonderful woman who is excited to be at ADV. Is she serious? Yes. Is she committed to getting the school back to financial stability? Yes. Does she want our children to succeed? Yes. Does she give out dog biscuits and have dance parties at lunch? No. But those are things that were uniquely Dr. Ray. Does the board serve because of some social status goals? Uh, no. If they were looking for social status, they'd be serving on Boards that get local recognition. Dr. Ray built a great school and has moved on to new great things. I think she would be disappointed to see parents trashing the school - and by extension, teachers - that she cared so much about. I think everyone needs to embrace change and stop with this nastiness!

I remember meeting Dr. Ray; she was the main reason we wanted our child to go to this school. Unfortunately the rug was pulled out from underneath us; she was fired just prior to the school year starting. In regards to the new principal, I am shocked by her "deer in the headlight" look on her face, lack of social skills, and experience. I hope my wife and I did not make a mistake. Regardless of the principal my child's primary teacher is fantastic; but, when the head of the school is broken the rest will soon fall.

I to use to be so proud of ADV before. I am VERY DISAPPOINTED about the school this year. The new principle can't even say morning to a parent and/or talk to the kids.. she lack of people skills. Academy Cafe is gone (no more singing at lunch time) !!! I hate the way the board is handling things. Administrative personnel can't even put two and two together.... I sent money for my son's lunch and he doesn't get it !!!!!. Grades are lower than even in the story of the school. I don't even want to participate in the school's activities any more. Thanks a lot Board of Directors. Now I am searching for a new school for next year.

The previous comments are exactly right. This used to be the best elementary school in pinellas county, with the most caring principal in the world. The school was an extension of our family. The board cares nothing about our children, and only cares about their social status. They fired the principal and hired a puppet for themselves. We and many more families will not be returning next year.

This used to be a fantastic school but boy has it changed. The board fired a great principal and brought in one with no experience and no ability to be civil to the parents or kids at the school. Numerous times the kids have complained that they said good morning to her and she looks at them then walks by, not a peep. Teachers are leaving as quickly as they can, three have left since August and another was fired last week, without any reason that parents can see. More and more families are leaving to find better schools and opportunities for their kids and are smart to do so. I believe within the next year or two all the great teachers will be gone and all that parents will be left with is a principal who will ignore them and do anything to avoid any questions. Beware!

I am horribly sad to have to write this. What was once a wonderful and nurturing school of the arts has become a cold institution. If you notice all of the reviews before this year, you will see how valued our principal was and how special of a school this really was. Our principal was the heart of our school. The board of the did not mesh with her creative and out-of-the-box thinking, and they fired her. The board cares nothing about us or our children. They have openly stated to us at board meetings that the parents words mean nothing to them, and that if we have an issue, we can leave. They have firmly instructed the principal and the teachers that the parents are not to be heard. The new principal is a cold, cold woman with no experience and no care for our children. She does not even speak to them, or the parents unless she absolutely has to. The teachers live in fear of losing their jobs every day. Many have already left and many have been fired. There is no moral or sprit. ADV used to be the gem of Pinellas County with a waiting list a mile long to get in. The board has managed to take something truly wonderful and destroy it with their egos and shameful behavior.

ADV is a fantastic school that has so much for my child. It is so great to see your child happy to go to school. Between art, dance, music, and PE my child has had the most opportunity to enrich her education with the arts.

My husband and I have been impressed and very happy with the school. We have an amazing principal who really cares about the students and also maintain a good culture throughout the school. There are only 215 students, which is very good in my opinion (smaller classes more individual attention)....Lots of school functions for the family, wonderful parent involvement, and a great group of kids!! We have never regretted our decision! and my daughter can't be happier...!!!! she loves everything about the school, which tell us a lot as parents. I have done a lot of research and talked to a lot of parents.. an have reinforced many times our decision about this school. Thanks Dr. Ray for everything you do!

Those one star reviews are a shame and simply not the whole truth. I have been involved with the school for several years and have never seen a class out of control. Teachers have different styles, but never showed lack of control or disrespect for students. Upon moving to a new building there were hiccups, but now a year into the new facility, these are more than worked out. The new playground is shaping up, student achievement is high, and safety is pinnacle. Baycare does share a portion of one building, but there is just one locked door that cannot be accessed from the lab side. Besides, every patient is 75+!! Also, I've never seen a principal so involved or caring towards the kids. She also is very supportive of the staff. No, this school does not have lots of special education services, but if you are involved in your child's education and want a well-rounded learning experience in classes at or below 18 students (or 22 in 4th and 5th), then try to get on the waiting list!

ADV is a special gem of a school! My son is beginning his fifth year at the school and has flourished both academically and socially. It isn't the environment for every student or parent, but it is a grass roots kind of school with an amazing principal involved with every aspect...from heating students' lunches to spending time with a student when they are struggling to janitorial and maintenance duties! Each teacher has their own amazing strategies for promoting learning through unconventional methods, way beyond simple book and paper work! Check out the school to see if its a good fit rather than relying on some of these reviews ;-)

I thought switching to a new school that is not a zoned school would be a better choice for my children. I was VERY wrong! This school lacks so much. There is very little technology in this school. We are in a day and age where technology is the way of the world and this school is lacking. The school is very disorganized, they seem to have a hard time with the amount of students at this school or it could be they do not have enough staff to handle the school. The bathroom and lunchroom seems to always be filthy. The teachers are not very experienced and lack control of their classrooms. Yes, they made changes and moved some teachers around, but at last years kids expense? I find it frightening as well with the lack of security at this school. Please when you tour this school make sure they show you the other building with classrooms in it. Please be aware that it is the same building where Baycare labs is and they do blood work including drug tests at this facility. I believe we are now more aware of the harm that can come to our children in wake of school shootings. Safety should be a priority. I am now looking at other charter schools that offer so much more for our children.

ADV is a special school where our son has thrived. The principal, teachers and PTA are all supportive and involved. We were thrilled to get into the school in kindergarten and for our child to have dance, music and art integrated into the day to day. We have appreciated the way the staff and administration treat a child as an individual. We also LOVE the clubs offered, including drama club. Our son has also enjoyed a lego/robotic club, spanish club and others offered throughgout the past several years. All are wonderful opportunities to provide other ways and avenues of learning. Academically he also enjoys the gifted program and most importantly he loves going to school each and every day.

This school was a BIG disappointment. I am an educator and thought putting my children here would be a nice move...smaller environment, individual attention etc.... BIG MISTAKE! Yes, the kids that go there are happy and can dance and draw etc. great artists..... but they lack academically compared to where they should be... THe "testing and grading" is a joke! HOME SCHOOL in Florida if you can and if you cannot, check out private schools where at least they will prove their worth since you pay them privately or look at HOME SCHOOL.

Academie Da Vinci is not only an Excellent School, but a big part of our extended family. Choosing the right school for our daughter was a parent responsibility we took very seriously. We researched and toured multiple elementary schools in both Hillsborough and Pinellas counties before we made our decision. Due to our work schedules, our daughter spends more awake hours on a typical school day with the teachers, staff and parent volunteers than she does with us. We chose well. ADV is not only an excellent learning environment for our daughter, but also an extended family. We are so pleased with our decision to enroll her into ADV five years ago when she started kindergarten. ADV truly lives up to it's slogan "A Small School, With a Big Heart". Our daughter loves school and is always learning. Even though she must take the FCAT and other standardized tests as any student in public school, the emphasis is not on these tests, but on the learning that takes place and developing a balance between academics and the arts. We are truly impressed with the level of dedication, commitment to excellence in education and the arts that is exhibited by all stakeholders in our school.

This is a fantastic school and as another long time parent I am honored for my children to attend ADV. The teachers and staff members have my child's best interest as their top priority .They have created a nurturing enviroment that they are thriving in! This summer we moved into a beautiful new location. A SAFE A rated building and we could not be happier! The sense of family and community within the school is amazing! We are a proud ADV family!

I am very disappointed with this school! They have no playground for the children, no science or computer lab,no foreign language and the academics seem to be lacking. The school is very disorganize and to top it off. They share a building with bay care labs a blood draw place. The door that separates the school from the lab has been unlocked due to lack of the right doors. The children have p.e. in the parking lot and recess in the ditch next to a retention pond. To top it off the class sizes are 20 kids and above. Most schools only have 18 students per class. Please if you are looking into this school ask questions and volunteer a lot!! You have other options that are much better. Don't let the staff fool you and say we are working on it. That is not good enough.

My twin daughters are starting fourth grade this year and we were pleasantly surprised when they had already made the wait list for this year and then found out the school was moving to a newer, bigger and of course, better facility! I had the pleasure of helping out this summer with packing up the old school and moving into the new school. It gave me the opportunity to get to know Dr Ray, the principal, most of the staff and many of the parents. I haven't met a more dedicated principal than Dr. Ray! (and I am a teacher and have taught in Philadelphia, Tampa and in Pinellas County) She has made this move happen with the rest of the amazing and caring teachers and of course the awesome PTA and other parents. I felt like I was actually stepping into a family--not just a school. School has started and the dedication and determination to get this school completely open and operating (and doubling in size of staff and students) has just amazed me! If you are looking for a school that nurtures and allows your child to be a child; embraces their creativity and imagination while growing their brain, you could not find a better school!! Kudos to ADV!!!

Excellent school, great teachers! After three years at ADV and three teachers I can just second the opinions already expressed here: This school is happy to have a great principal (now with a Ph.D., loved as well as respected by the kids with great and ambitious ideas, but both feet on the ground) as well as excellent teachers. I just wish the school would go beyond elementary level.

Our son attends ADV and this is the BEST school ever. It is such a nurturing, loving, creative environment. The teachers are top notch, the principal knows every child by name and they all truly care. I feel excited to drop him off at school everyday! And my goodness, the manners these kids have here (not only with adults but with each other)----it's amazing. As the post before me, I agree......the 5th graders are so kind to the newbees and set such a great example for them on a daily basis.

We love this school. Our son literally runs to his classroom in the morning. We could not ask for more. Great parents, great kids, great teachers, great principle. Loving and caring environment. This school goes way above and beyond academics. Children learn things here beyond what you learn from a book..giving, caring, dancing, sharing, singing, piano, art, the list goes on and on. My kindergartner begins his day with a high five from a fifth grader and ends his day with a smile on his face. The principle knows every child on a personal level and cares so very much. Every attempt is made to make each child feel special here.

I have a daughter in Kindergarten this year at ADV, and I have been completely impressed with the school. Lots of school functions for the family, wonderful parent involvement, and a great group of kids!! Greatest thing about this school is its smallness.....Love it that all the kids know each other!! Not to mention, an AMAZING Principal who also knows everyone by name and works around the clock to make this school what it is today!!! Only bad thing I can think to say is that it stops at 5th grade!!!!

Our daughter has been attending Academie Da Vinci since 2009 and we have been very impressed with the school. We immediately felt welcomed by the teachers, staff, principal and families. We love the small size because the school feels just like a family. There s active family involvement and an active PTA. The teachers are very dedicated and truly enjoy working with children. Principal Ray is an extraordinary person and makes each child feel important and special. She knows each student s name by the first week of school and plays an active role in their lives every single day. In addition to outstanding academics, ADV offers dance, art, music, and physical education twice per week. We have Field Trips, a Science Fair, Fall and Spring Festivals, Art Shows, Winter and Spring Shows, and an End of the Year Picnic/Field Day. They even have afterschool clubs, such as Actor s Studio, Tech Club, Stix and Spanish Club. Our daughter goes to school every single day excited to learn and comes home from school every day with a smile. What more could a parent ask for?! Academie Da Vinci is the perfect fit for our daughter and our family!

I'm going to concur with the last persons statement. I had a daughter who attend ADV a year or so ago and my husband and I decided she wasn't getting anything more than the public school offered. We put her back into the public system and she did excellent. We were involved in a lot of the functions and PTA, but also felt like we didn't fit the mold like the rest of the parents. I really don't like to put a school down that has some great teachers, but like all schools there are some who get by.

our child got accepted this past year into the school and in all honesty we felt like we weren't welcomed into the click of their school. Our child has doen very well, but we decided in our best intrest and in our childs that we pulled them from the school. It seemed like a great place at first, but we didn't fit in too well. Our childs teacher, who probably is a good teacher, put a mark on them, and I have a felling it would follow them throughout their years if we left them there. They aren't willing to help if your child doesn't perform to their high expectations and also kids need time outdoors to expend energy and they don't get it very much.

As the previous reviewer indicated, ADV does not intergrate the arts with the curriculum as much as it probably like to. Unfortunately charter schools are held to the same curriculum as the traditional public schools. Even so I believe the arts are presented in such a way that they encourage creativity and help build self esteem. My daughter has benefited so much from the many arts and still has mastered the state mandated curriculum. I am very pleased with the individualized attention my daughter has received.

I would agree that Academie Da Vinci is not for everyone. If your child struggles academically or needs SLD, this is not the right school. The child will get more special tutoring in a regular public school if they are performing under grade level. However, if your child is self-motivated and creative, this is a positive environment. It doesn't 'lack academics' since it is one of the top performing schools in the state (check FCAT results), but it does better serve children who work independently and appreciate music education, visual arts class, and dance class twice a week.

My grandchildren attend this school, and we couldn't be more pleased. ADV is like a private school - small classrooms, a caring staff, and most important, a quality education. I am surprised by the review written by the parent on 4/9/08 because in fact the academics are superior to most public schools in the area, and there are test scores to back that up.

My child has been enrolled in the school for one year. She will not be returning to the school next year, nor would I recommend it to anyone else. While the instructors and staff are very nice, the academics are lacking in the younger grades. The children are not on par with their peers that attend other public/private schools in this area. If you choose to send your child here, be very diligent about adding extra-help work with your child, so they can remain equal with other students.

Academi Da Vinci has been a great school for our kids for the past five years. They have daily classes in dance, music, keyboarding, and visual arts. There is a small school atmosphere with holiday festivals and frequent field trips. The director and the teachers have been very supportive of our daughter's educational goals. I would highly recommend Academie Da Vinci to parents who have artistic children. It's a hidden gem.

I would have to rate this school as the best of the best! I feel fortunate to have my child there becuase her experience has been awesome. The principal knows each child and family member by name. She is respectful, kind and understaning. She is an example of what excellent leadership looks like. All of the teachers and staff are highly qualified and go over and above to work with the children and their families. The children are receiving top education but not sacrificing fun. This school is what all schools should be like. My daughter loves it and I do too. She looks forward to going to school and can't wait to tell me all of the exciting things she does. I am a very satisfied parent and am so glad that I chose this school rather than a traditional public school. I could not be happier.

I moved my son from a larger school to this one and the experience has been awesome! The principal knows every kid and each child loves and respects her in return. There is always a parent on campus either helping out or just visiting their child for lunch. My son has always done well, but since moving him to ADV, he is now excited about learning! The academic results are amazing throughout the school without having to lose the creative and social skills that I believe every kid needs! I'm amazed at the way each person on staff goes above and beyond and how the children know and look after one another. I would recommend this school to anyone and especially my closest friends. I wish every school could create the serious, yet fun environment that Academie DaVinci has achieved.

This was the most wonderful school for our children. It has very high academic standards and very high results. The teachers and principle really care about the kids and take a special interest in each one. ALL of the teachers knew my children by name and made a point of making each student special.
