OLL is a wondeful school that truly represents Catholic Identity and challenges my daughter to the fullest. There are always parents who will not get there way and thus leave negative comments buy my experience has been just wonderful. Dunedin is a wonderful city and OLL just makes it that much better. There VPK program is top notch and prepares the children for the rest of their elementary education!
Our daughter has been at this school her fourth year this year, the teachers have been wonderful, not as communicative personally as I would have wished, but ALL information about your child is available to me online updated everyday, so to me that is perfect. I know the curriculum is better than public schools as her cousin is working on alot of things she did 2 or 3 years ago and is the same age. I have never witnessed bullying and my daughter tells me everything, but maybe that is in another grade. New and old principals are both wonderful people. I feel it is worth the financial hardship as you only get one chance at your childs "surroundings" and what/who they are influenced by. Highly Recommended!
My daughter joined this school in August and I am amazed by the negative comments below. I am absolutely satisfied with every aspect of the school and parish. I have no problem communicating with all the staff. They are responsive, carrying and addresses issues with professionalism. I have no doubt I made the right choice registering my daughter there. The curriculum is excellent, the staff is knowledgeable and my daughter looks forward to go to school everyday and for me that speaks a lot!! If you are looking for a good private school, this is the place to go.
In response to the review of August 7,2012, that information is totally false. We have been in the school for 3 years and have had the same principal. Change is hard for some to accept but is needed to grow and improve. I have witnessed no bullying and know that it would not be tolerated. It is a wonderful school both academically and spiritually. It is well worth the money. We find the pastor to be very hands on and very warm and loving. He has always helped in anything we have asked of him. We love Father Gary. I will sign my name. Barbara Baker, parisioner and school mom
Parents, if you are considering this school, do yourself a favor and research your options. The school has recently had a significant teacher turnover, including the principal (which is the fourth principal within five years). Academics are marginal, bullying is prevalent and not all teachers are certified. The school claims high academics which is not supported by standardized test results. The Pastor has little compassion for problems brought to his attention.
The curriculum at OLL is good. Unfortunately, that is where the praise ends. The atmosphere in the school is cold and despondent. When dropping off or picking up my children in car line, the majority of the teachers avoid eye contact with you at all cost and they appear to be miserable. Communication is sparse between the parents and teachers. If you are not part of the 'clique', you will be treated like an outsider by the teachers, parents and an arrogant member of the clergy that are part of the clique (unfortunately, a bit like high school). My one daughter claims that in the two years that she has been there the priest has not once spoken to her. He has never spoken to us either. We will not attend his church anymore. In turn, we will be looking at other schools for the fall. On a positive note, the principal and a couple of other teachers were excellent. But, they are leaving also. i think they we will be much happier. I know we will.
They offer a good curriculum and some might say the tuition is high, but catholic school tuition it is probably the lowest of any private school in the area. I think they are trying to weed out some of the unfavorable teachers but I question how some can still remain. I think they should look into the bullying in this school more as it seems to be higher than it should. It seems like some grades get along really well and others have alot of drama and many issues. New leadership in the last few years is making attempts to improve. Their religious education is great. For us we felt it better to send my child somewhere else.
My son has had a lovely PreK year at OLL. The PreK teachers are caring, the program is well planned, and he has done very well there (after hating preschool.) We have had a great year.
Great school offering a great education located in lovely Dunedin. School offers sports and computers.
We are very happy with the school. Our daughter is thriving and it is totally worth the financial hardship.
Worse possible choice to make for a school? If you do, you will sooh find out as long as you pay attention.
OLL has been a great choice for our family. We've been here for 7 years now, and can only tell you it is worth every penny! The faculty ,school staff and principal are above average. A small school has made our children feel extremely comfortable and safe. Academics are challenging and at least 1 year, if not more , above the public school system, I've done the research.
The school administrators will not work with children who have medical needs . It is true they cater to a select few parents.I took my child out of this school. They need a new pastor and a new principal
Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic School in Dunedin Fl has been paramount in my life. As an alum, attending grades 1 thru 8 I experienced first hand the education and foundation that comes from this school. My son attanded grades Pre K- 8 and is now in his Junior year in the IB Program at CCC. My daughter is in grade 6 now at OLL and thriving both academically and spiritually. OLL is a faith and family centered school dedicated to each student.
OLL is Amazing and I love it here! I don't know why anyone would think the teachers here are unhappy. I teach at this wonderful school and I am very happy! I do care very much about not only the students in my class but all of the students. ALL OF THE TEACHERS DO! My children also attended OLL. They are both exceptional students in their respective universities and are living the faith in their daily lives. Thank you OLL!
I am so happy to be a part of such a Christ centered school. My son graduated from OLL ,& is doing beautifully in IB. He was amazed by the fact that students from the public schools were unable to identify an adverb, and were not familiar with math terms. OLL teaches to curriculum , not to the FCAT.When a child leaves , he or she is always WAY ahead of their public school classmates. The saddest part of the negative comments on this review page is that every one who commented is obvious to the people who still are here. It is such a close family that when some one leaves due to differences, we all feel saddened by it. The teachers care about all the kids they lose.Christ is the center of Our Lady:)
The New Family Ice Cream Social was this week and I am so extremely impressed by the OLL Staff and volunteering parents from the HSA. What a great welcome into this community!! We are so excited for a great year to come and can't wait to attend all the events this year at OLL.
I just can't say enough positive stuff about this school. My children went to their orientation and we were made so welcome and so comfortable about starting a new year. All the teachers were so helpful and responsive to all of their concerns and doubts about starting back to school. I am so excited to start a new year at Our Lady of Lourdes, I know this will be the best year yet for my family! I would also like to say the principal at this school is amazing! She is always there for you whenever you need to talk and is always looking out for the best interest for the children of OLL. I could not imagine my family growing up anywhere else but here!!! I highly recommend this school.
Worse Catholic School there is! Just name it and it is the worst at everything. So extremely happy that I moved my children from there. They are getting a better education now and it was the best decision ever to leave.
OLL is an excellent school. It has quality teachers, great leadership and outstanding facilities for such a small school. My children are having an excellent education. They are very happy, confident and respectful. The parental involvment at OLL is wonderful and is a must in any school today. I would suggest to the unhappy parents that they should look closer to home for their childrens problems. I'm sure if i displayed that much negativity it would affect my children. I pray God gives you some postivity and faith at your new school, not only for you but for the sake of your children. FYI i'm not a "rich parent" but a very happy one.
