I would like to thank the dedicated faculty and staff of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic School for partnering with me and my husband in the teaching of the faith to our children. I choose this school because it is first and foremost a Catholic school and it's Catholic identity is strong at all times. Building a solid foundation in the faith is priceless and is a gift that will last a lifetime. Our Lady of Lourdes is an excellent school on every level and I have complete confidence in the leadership of the school!!
I am so excited and honored to be part of OLL. When we first moved to FL, my priority was to find the best Catholic school. Not a consolidated school, but a parish school. We wanted that feeling of community that we didn't find at our last school. It's that feeling of community and high standards that has kept us here at Our Lady of Lourdes. It's knowing that wherever you go, whether at the school with the dedicated faculty and staff, or at church with our caring pastor and priest you will find people that want the best for your kids. It is home to us now and I can't imagine sending my kids anywhere else. My kids have flourished in so many ways because of all the opportunities they are given here at this school, whether it's participating in the Fine Arts program or on the courts or fields, they are encouraged to be the best versions of themselves and to win with grace and lose graciously. My kids are challenged academically receiving high honors not only at their school, but in the community. My absolute favorite time every week is when I attend the weekly school Masses. The entire school comes together every week and participates in the best celebration of all.
Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic School is not perfect! However, it is one of the most enriching, positive, accepting and well-rounded schools I know of. One that prides itself on teaching the "whole child" so that each and every student can have a strong base to build on. Life is not always easy for our kids, and for some, it can be a very rough road with many bumps along the way. I have witnessed OLL's faculty and staff support, encourage and empower these kids to face and truly overcome their challenges. I am blessed, as is my child, to be a part of the OLL family.
We love having our boys at OLL! I have worked with the teachers and principal for 2 years. They are very happy and feel accepted. I any concerns arise, they are addressed quickly and fairly.
Is the best place to educate the kids, they teach them compassion , values, love and the school is a family, every body knows and enjoy everybody. The teachers are always ready to help and support our kids .
We have been at Our Lady of Lourdes long enough to see it's decline. What was once an outstanding school with strong academics is now a mediocre school. The problem comes from inexperience at the administrative level. Teacher turnover has been a big problem the last couple of years, especially in Middle School. My child has mentioned often that they are not doing anything in his classes. He has been pulled out of classes to help with the props and set for an upcoming musical production. We are very disappointed with this school and will not be returning.
As an employee at Our Lady of Lourdes I am very proud to let everyone know that through our faculty and staff feedback by way of survey, we have been recognized as Tampa Bay's Top 100 Workplaces. We are number 8 of 50 in our category. We also were recognized with a special award of appreciation. I am truly honored to be employed at Our Lady of Lourdes and be part of this Parish community.
Our Lady of Lourdes School develops the whole child: spiritually, academically and socially and deserves five stars! All the changes in staff and personnel have enhanced the school's credibility and raised standards. The Principal and Pastor always want the best for the children, of that there is no doubt. A number of teachers have served the school for many, many years and are the best people to ask about the quality of education and the continuing raising of standards if you decide to tour the school. If anyone is asked to leave, you can be assured it is for serious reasons and for the overall well being of the school. Our children are happy, the enrollment for next year continues to increase and the standards continue to rise and our kids certainly know they are loved by God! Thank you!
The hideous paint color of the school & church isn't the only thing awful at OLL. Since 2007, there have been FOUR principals & a turnover of at LEAST 14 teachers. At the end of the 2010-11 school year, almost half of the 5th grade class left the school. They didn't return the following school year for a variety of reasons; including poor academics & a priest's bad attitude. In 2012, a 5th grade teacher, middle school teacher, youth minister & the 3rd school principal in 5 years were fired. In 2013, the vice-principal & another middle school teacher were fired. Please make sure if you tour the school, ask about teacher turnover, the reason the middle school teacher was fired in 2013, standardized test scores & why two well behaved children were expelled from the school after their mom voiced some concerns. Please know that your children WILL learn about controversial social topics without parental permission. Also, make sure you do your due diligence about the priests there. ASK QUESTIONS! Your best resource is prior OLL families & teachers. Current families & teachers won t say anything negative because they are concerned w/ retaliation.
OLL was great school; however, it has slowly declined. We left because of massive teacher turnover, poor leadership, dismal academics, parent clicks, and many other reasons. Do your research before sending your children here; if you tour the school, be sure to ask about standardized tests, teacher turnover and teacher qualifications. Physically, the school looks great, but, once you see behind the scenes the true OLL will reveal itself ..a struggling marginal school with an overinflated opinion of itself. Our family did not realize how far our children were behind until they were challenged at our new school; we deeply regret not moving them sooner. Bullying is a problem and privileged children rule of the roost. The school boasts a strong sports program, this is the farthest thing from the truth; most sports teams are decimated by their opponents. Please be aware this post will be critiqued by follow-on posts, the SAC and HSA have parents that monitor this blog to counter-post non-favorable posts. Do you research and ask the tough questions before considering this school, you children deserve better!
Our Lady of Lourdes is a wonderful school and community. After moving to Florida from New York we conducted a tireless search of schools for our children ages 10 and 4. We are incredibly pleased with our decision to send the children to OLL. I read the comments on all schools we looked at, both good and bad, and urge you to look past a negative review and make your own decision. This school challenges my children, the teachers are caring and very open to communication with parents. And, I would like to add that the principal is excellent, very open to communication and gives the school a warm and welcome face. We feel that the quality of education our children are receiving as well as the incredible sense of community are above the school environments we had in NY. Keep up the good work OLL, we are so happy to be a part of the school.
OLL is a wondeful school that truly represents Catholic Identity and challenges my daughter to the fullest. There are always parents who will not get there way and thus leave negative comments buy my experience has been just wonderful. Dunedin is a wonderful city and OLL just makes it that much better. There VPK program is top notch and prepares the children for the rest of their elementary education!
Our daughter has been at this school her fourth year this year, the teachers have been wonderful, not as communicative personally as I would have wished, but ALL information about your child is available to me online updated everyday, so to me that is perfect. I know the curriculum is better than public schools as her cousin is working on alot of things she did 2 or 3 years ago and is the same age. I have never witnessed bullying and my daughter tells me everything, but maybe that is in another grade. New and old principals are both wonderful people. I feel it is worth the financial hardship as you only get one chance at your childs "surroundings" and what/who they are influenced by. Highly Recommended!
My daughter joined this school in August and I am amazed by the negative comments below. I am absolutely satisfied with every aspect of the school and parish. I have no problem communicating with all the staff. They are responsive, carrying and addresses issues with professionalism. I have no doubt I made the right choice registering my daughter there. The curriculum is excellent, the staff is knowledgeable and my daughter looks forward to go to school everyday and for me that speaks a lot!! If you are looking for a good private school, this is the place to go.
The curriculum at OLL is good. Unfortunately, that is where the praise ends. The atmosphere in the school is cold and despondent. When dropping off or picking up my children in car line, the majority of the teachers avoid eye contact with you at all cost and they appear to be miserable. Communication is sparse between the parents and teachers. If you are not part of the 'clique', you will be treated like an outsider by the teachers, parents and an arrogant member of the clergy that are part of the clique (unfortunately, a bit like high school). My one daughter claims that in the two years that she has been there the priest has not once spoken to her. He has never spoken to us either. We will not attend his church anymore. In turn, we will be looking at other schools for the fall. On a positive note, the principal and a couple of other teachers were excellent. But, they are leaving also. i think they we will be much happier. I know we will.
They offer a good curriculum and some might say the tuition is high, but catholic school tuition it is probably the lowest of any private school in the area. I think they are trying to weed out some of the unfavorable teachers but I question how some can still remain. I think they should look into the bullying in this school more as it seems to be higher than it should. It seems like some grades get along really well and others have alot of drama and many issues. New leadership in the last few years is making attempts to improve. Their religious education is great. For us we felt it better to send my child somewhere else.
My son has had a lovely PreK year at OLL. The PreK teachers are caring, the program is well planned, and he has done very well there (after hating preschool.) We have had a great year.
Great school offering a great education located in lovely Dunedin. School offers sports and computers.
We are very happy with the school. Our daughter is thriving and it is totally worth the financial hardship.
Worse possible choice to make for a school? If you do, you will sooh find out as long as you pay attention.
