My child transferred from Collier County into Allen Park this year. He was in gifted in Collier and he remains so at Allen Park. I have watched his self worth slowly go down the drain because of policies and the way his teacher conducts herself and her classroom. My husband and I are working with our son to encourage him to ask questions again, which is not something he was afraid to do prior to coming to Allen Park. We have talked with the principal and the teacher about why he is afraid of her, and she didn't seem to recognize her own classroom behavior and why it would affect sensitive gifted children. I do wish there was more we could do other than talk to the teacher and principal, but when you do that and things don't change in the classroom, what else can you do? There are lots of negative things said instead of turning things into positives, which is a better way to teach. We lucked out in Collier and now we have to adapt. We are looking at this as character building, so if you have time to work with your child when you are in this situation, be advised. I don't understand this "10" rating, and we're in the gifted program.
Allen Park is an EXCELLENT school. I personally went there from 1st grade till 5th grade, over 25 years ago. They have a hearing impaired program there, and I was enrolled in that program for 1st & 2nd grade. Then in 3rd grade, I was mainstreamed into the regular classroom. I received much needed support, and a lot of one on one attention from the teachers, which made me a successful student & adult throughout life. My 1st grade teacher was also the 1st receipt of the Golden Apple Award. I could not recommend a better school!
Allan Park distroyed my child's self worth. Constant criticism from teachers. robot like strickness (just walk thru the hallway), the inability to be individuals is why I rank it below all others I know. No communication between teachers and parents unless there is a problem then the teacher will be sure and contact you but it you want any info there is no email, phone number or any way to reach the person your child spends all day with. If you care about your child's self esteem please do not put him/her in this school without alot of research and discussion with the principle and teacher. Good luck...
My grandson Aydian started pre-school in Allen Park & graduated 5th grade in may 2013. I can't say enough great thing's about this school. He had awesome teacher's through his elementary school year's. I would highly recommend this school.
The teachers will not communicate with parents unless THEY want to. There is no patience with students who have any slight problems. The teachers I have met try to "weed the unfavorable" students out as early as possible in order to get the best rating they possibly can. Please do your homework before sending any chiild to this school.
The school is incredible!!!!*** Excellent teachers best of all they are a bucket filling school.:) allen park elementary + children = respectful, responsible, safe, and smart
My child is currently enrolled in his 2nd year at Allen Park. He is from Germany and English is his second language. The staff has been excellent in helping him & I recommend this school to others. By staying envolved with my child progress and working with the school my child has all A's & over 200 reading points in just the 1st quarter. To sum it up, parents need to take responsibilities as well as the staff.
I am very unhappy with my childs progress at this school. If it were not for me being an involved parent my child would easily slip through the cracks. If your child is struggling with something you have no idea until you see a report card or call the teacher. I have pointed things out to the teacher that she should have been on top of. If your considering this school and your child is not in the gifted program you might want to re-consider.
Allen Park has the best teachers in the world, dedicated staff, PTA members and volunteers! We have a wonderful reading program also, Reading Renaissance. But best of all...our students!! They're terriffic!
I had a child go through Allen Park Elementary in the gifted program. He had a wonderful experience there. I was totally impressed with the school. Now I have a second son at the school who is not gifted but still in a higher level class. This school is not good when you are not 'gifted'. I never saw this before until now. They treat the children very unfairly and the teachers are pure partiers. Choose wisely.
My child recently started at Allen Park. I was surprised to find out from they do not have recess. I feel young children do need a break and to just have free un-structured play. Also when tested for classroom placement my child was very upset and nervous about starting a new school and they did nothing to make him feel more comfortable. So my child did not test well. I know this is a good school but I was disappointed based upon my first impression.
Allen Park Elementary has an excellent and highly qualified staff and administration. Not only does this school meet all of my children's academic needs, but the warm, caring and safe environment that the teachers provide each day is really genuine. My son and daughter have both had wonderful educational experiences at this school. As a parent, I am very pleased with the communication from the teachers. The school is well-maintained and the office staff is very organized and friendly. If you are looking for a wonderful, educational experience for your children where their individual academic needs are met to the best of their ability, then Allen Park Elementary is worth the waiting list to get in!
I currently have 2 children at Allen Park and I am very pleased with the education they are receiving. The staff is caring and competent. The parents are involved and for the public education system, I rate this school an A+.
My child is currently in the third grade, he has been attending this school since pre-K. This school in its entiry is involved with the kids. They have an awsome reading program!! Best public education..
I did not think my kids were getting a well rounded education at their private school. It seemed only one subject was being focused. Upon acceptance at Allen Park, one was tested and placed in the exceptional program, the others were not. I didn't care for the social interaction nor did I think the curriculum any of the kids received was better than that at the private school.Classes being smaller at the private school gave my kids more individualized time with the teachers. The 'gifted program' was no different than what my child was learning at the private school. I realized that putting a 'tag' on my child as being exceptional was stressful to him and taking the other kids back to the private school left him feeling alone and isolated; almost as being punished. All are back in the private school, excelling in all subjects.
I had two children attend Allen Park. One was 'gifted' and one was not, so I feel I have seen both sides. All I can say is if your child is not 'gifted' good luck! They even suggested that I not bring my son to school so he would fail the FCAT and retain him for another year. My second child is no longer at Allen Park.
I currently have two children in this school. I had one graduate last year. I transferred my children from a private school to be at Allen Park three years ago because of the progressive education available. The students are tested and placed in a class that is most able to meet their needs. All the teachers that have taught my children have been exceptional. The principle and staff are of the highest caliber. In my view this is simply the best elementary school in the area.
