We are also saddened by the loss of having a priest visit twice a month, however this was a decision made by the local Diocese, not us. Our character education classes do not include any religious aspects. We use the Character Counts curriculum as a baseline for developing good citizens. The Catholic education classes follow the Baltimore Catechism textbooks. Our 5th - 8th grade enrollment is 32 this year versus 31 last year. We combine 5th/6th and 7th/8th for our Art, Music, Spanish and PE classes, so our students benefit from having both larger enrichment class sizes and smaller academic class sizes.
A few more have left than 2 from what the kids are stating at our school. Maybe 5 came in but it seems 5 or more have left. We left two years ago and it was the best decision we made. The classes were way too small and attention to detail was lacking from the front office to the class room. Leadership.......not there. Christian Character is lacking as they are no longer affiliated with the Catholic Church and that is a shame. The religion class and character ed class were very similiar. The class sizes are getting smaller and that is not always a good thing. To each their own. Why is that?
My son is in 5th grade this year and has attended Noonan Academy since kindergarden. The teachers at Noonans always greet you with a smile and they are very easy to talk with and really care about challenging the kids. This school is run by a strong Principal leadership and a good christian education. I would highly recommend this school to anyone looking for a great school.
Noonan Academy is far above other private schools in Ft. Myers. This is proven by their SAT scores! The small class sizes are a plus! My children have attended seven years and are both excelling in every subject especially Math and English. I love the Smart Boards in every room! We are looking forward to another great year!
Looks like half the middle school is leaving to a myriad of reasons. One reason could be due to the lack of Algebra being taught and in order for your 8th grader to get Algebra is to pay for an online class and take it your self. Yes, they have help by paying for tutoring after school. If more students keep leaving this will have a profound effect.
I HAVE BEEN AT NOONAN FOR 3 YRS , THIS COMING AUG. WILL BE MY 4TH YR., MY SON AND DAUGHTER just love going to school, a parent could not ask for more....the staff truley cares for the students and I have seen the Noonan team work together and as a parent I am thrilled to see my children thriving and in such a wonderful /safe environment...I am so looking forward to this upcoming yr. I know it will be a fantastic ONE!!!!!..
My child attended the past school year on McKay scholarship and needing extra help. Not only did she get that one on one she needed but it was done in such a way that she never felt different from the others. The attitude is so very positive and for once we got to hear about our child's strengths instead of all the weaknesses that we always got from the public school. I am so grateful such a school exists and would recommend it to any parent with a child who needs extra attention. Those that criticize the small classroom size are insane! No child even gifted ones do better with bigger numbers in the classroom. If you don't want that personal attention, you will need to look elsewhere. We looked at ALL private schools in Lee and nobody was willing to give our child a chance based on an IEP that was very critical. Noonan did and they were able to bring out the best in our child. We are looking forward to another good year.
As a retired teacher and grandparent of a current Noonan student, I am very impressed with the school, its challenging curriculum, and its excellent staff. From my first visit, it was apparent to me that this is a place where teaching and learning take place in a positive atmosphere. The students were so focused they didn't even notice we were there. Now that I know more about the curriculum, it is easy to understand why SAT scores are above the national average in every grade level. If you are searching for a private school for your child, Noonan Academy should be at the top of your list.
I have been a Noonan parent for three years. The school continues to impresses me more each year. This year, the school had multiple science fair winners in the Thomas Edison Regional Science Fair. Some of our students won a two week Summer Research Scholarship to FGCU and one student won a FULL FOUR YEAR SCHOLARSHIP to FGCU! Noonan is a school that is thriving and I am so thankful that my children attend this school. Take it from a parent who is actively involved in her children's education - Noonan is the best!
I'm so impressed with the SAT scores for the school. The school scored about the national average in every category and grade level. My children both scored very well. I love the small classes, Spanish class, and the religion class. I also, see how the older children are looked up to by the younger students. If you are looking for a private school this is one you should consider! My children have been attending for 5 years and looking forward to another great year!
This school is horrible. Disorganized. Unwilling to work with children who need extra help. Tiny class sizes and still can't teach a child. The resource room is a joke - there are NO resources and if your child needs extra help you have to pay for it. Can't imagine this school staying in business for long and it is a for profit business putting "business" before education,.
My son is going on his second year at Noonan and we love it! The teachers have been amazing with him and give a lot of personal attention. I cannot believe everything he learned last year. When talking to friends with children in his same grade level, I realize Noonan's curriculum is way ahead of others!
Odd. I had posted here the other day and the post is gone. Anyway...Can't wait to get our kids out of the school and look forward to spending our money at another school. The class sizes are getting so small it is like home schooling. If you like that then great but is lacking in several areas.
I have a 4th grader and a 1st grader at Noonan's. They are both excelling in every subject and love the school. I love the small class sizes and the individualized help they get when needed. The teacher's are very quick to address any concerns that I've had and they are very willing to help in any way. I also like the Character Education part of their program. It is a great school and I would definitely recommend it!
I gave Noonan Academy a five star rating in 2009 and it still deserves that rating today. Our experience over the last five years has been excellent. The teachers are dedicated and respond to emails or requests for conferences quickly. The principal has always made time to discuss any questions or concerns we have. The teachers expect our middle school student to earn her grades and be responsible for her work and behavior. She is thriving academically because of their skills and her work ethic. I have been at the school when observers from the FGCU education program visited. They were extremely impressed with the math and English curriculums. The math program is excellent, and math is my daughter's favorite class. That is a great endorsement from a pre-teen girl!
Noonan Academy is an incredible school. I have two children enrolled and both are thriving academically and socially. The curriculum is solid and the teachers are fantastic. As a parent, I appreciate the focus on character education. I highly recommend Noonan to any parent who wants a quality education for their child in a safe, loving environment. Noonan is preparing its students for success.
Had to withdraw my son from Noonan eight days into the school year, after he continually came home from school frustrated and defeated. He is on a McKay scholarship, and I'm still trying to figure out how the state of Florida is allowing Noonan to accept this scholarship when they clearly do not have the accommodations for students with learning difficulties. Their solution to "help" students with disabilities is to put them in a Resource Room with little contact with other children at their grade level, leaving the child to feel singled out. In my opinion, this is not the place for a child with any type of learning difficultly, and Noonan should find some other way to make their money besides accepting a scholarship from kids that they are not equipped to help.
Excellent small Christian-based school! My 4th grade son transferred to Noonan Academy for the last month of school this past year. His transition was unbelievably pleasant and quick thanks to the Principal and her awesome staff! He was greeted by students who cared and wanted to help..teachers who went out of their way to offer assistance. Their was no competition like our old school..just kids "playing" school and enjoying learning. He loves the way they do Math and English and can't wait to start 5th grade there. Academically, they were ahead in all subjects with emphasis on learning it at school..not at home with hours of homework. We love Noonan Academy! SG
My daughter has gone to this school for several years and now I wish I would have taken her out along time ago. The math class is the worst I have ever seen. They do not teach out of a book. Now I find that some teachers are not even accredited. I had to spend extra money so my daughter could get caught up on math. Hard to believe that you spend the money you do and then have to spend extra so she can attend a good high school and be current on her math. I would not encourage any parent to send their child to this school.
We started at Noonan's when our oldest daughter was in Pre-k. We now have our 4 children in Noonan's and are thrilled with the level of education they are receiving. As an educator myselt, I knew what I wanted for my children, and Noonan's is it! All my children are reading well above grade level. The secure, safe environment is any parent's dream!
My daughter has been attending Noonan Academy for three years. They give kids born just after the first of Sept to prove themselves as opposed to waiting a year to begin school. Best of all they have a Catholic curriculum
