I have been very happy at this school. There is a nice small neighborhood school feeling to this school. When you walk down the halls everyone seems happy and the teachers seem to know all the kids. The education seems to be excellent too, especially the science program. They are getting a new principle this year though, so well have to see if it stays ths good.
Norton is an excellent school. The teachers are very good and caring. The school day is planned out with thoughtfulness and the extra curricular teachers are great too. There is lots of communication with parents and they keep us updated. They have fun activities for the kids, great field trips and lots of special events. We are very picky about our kids education and have been pleasantly surprised by the quality there.
The teachers and librarians sincerely want to help all the children do well and reach their potentials.
I love Norton Elementary. I both my kids go to school there. I was also a teacher at Norton for 2 years and was sad to leave when I took on a new position. All of the teachers have high expectations for all of thier students. I taught a special needs class and my students were always included in all parts of school life as well as acadmics. My personal children have excelled both academically and social at Norton. Norton has a diverese mix of students and everyone here gets along. A quality that is required not only at school but in the real world. I there are so many things that I can say about this school that there wouldn't be enough words to express my thoughts. After taking on another position, I still drive my kids over 30 minutes across town just so they can attend Norton Elementary, even when there is a school only 2 miles from my home. I love this place!
This is a very proactive school - every child and parent are invited to participate. The staff is extremely helpful!
I love C.W. Norton Elementary because the teachers are very passionate about their students. They want them to learn to their fullest and truly care about each and every student in the class.
As a total Kagan school, we integrate effective strategies/structures for engaging all students in the learning process simultaneously. Children are enjoying it, and positive behaviors and attitudes are a result!
Excellent school! This was our first year at Norton. To start with, the Principal is great and seems so caring while professional. The lady at the front desk in the office always greeted me. Miss Jennifer Phillips (kindergarten) and Miss DeBarre are both excellent teachers who communicate with the parents. Miss Phillips is serious about making sure the children learn to read. I was so impressed with the advanced techniques she uses and follows through with. Kindergartners today are not doing what Kindergartners were doing 10 years ago but still the keep to the abilities of the children. Both of my children are happy with their teachers. Both of my children are good readers thanks to this school and their teachers. Also, if your child attends this school, they will be required to do regular reading tests at their own pace (such an awesome option for a reading grade).
My daughter's teacher has been supportive of my new role as 'school parent' (we're in Kindergarted) and is always available for whatever concerns I may have. My daughter is thriving, and excited to be here!
One of my sons who went here received excellent reading support through ESE (Mrs. Mikell is Awesome)! The school is pretty good; however, I never got a real welcoming feeling there, and parents are very cliquish. Also, with around 800 students, it is way too large for an Elem.school. My girls attend Glen Springs , and it is almost smaller by half; much better for younger kids. Overall, Norton is above average IMO.
The third grade team at Norton is beyond compare. The teachers work very closely with one another which makes everything so much easier as a parent. My child has thrived more this year than ever before. You can't go wrong with any of the third grade teachers! They set the bar high!
We're military, and are only here for a short time. My child has learned a great bit at Norton, and we are pleased with the school. We were, however, just left with that empty feeling when describing Norton. My child has gym, art, music and library/computer lab. But my child would come home talking continually of how some kids in the class were just so disruptive. I later learned from another parent that choosing the right teacher is imperative. We like Norton, and have no plans to change for the short time we have left.
I disagree w/Dec'04 reviewer; one of my sons has had reading problems and has been followed VERY closely and given LOTS of supplemental help; Mrs. Mikell for reading once/day, accomodation for tests, and speech twice/week for a couple years now. They are always sending progress reports home. My other two sons do not have these special needs, but seem to learn a lot and Like Norton. I have been treated fairly by the teachers and counselors, and when problem(s) have arose occasionally, I have been able to be heard by administration and to have my concern dealt with /not ignored. I am above-average happy with Norton and if I had one wish it would be that Norton would be a smaller school.
Great school! I did my student teaching at Norton and loved it. The teachers are dedicated, creative and love to teach. Administration is wonderful to work with. Norton is like a giant family.
Norton was a wonderful experience for my entire family. Since we have moved out of state we havent found a school to take their place. School has wonderful communication skills. They handled problem solving very well
Norton is a wonderful school. The teachers are very organized and work together to make sure all students are working on the same things. Their are a lot of opportunities for parents to be involved. We loved our short time at Norton.
