Want to improve this school’s profile? You can!

All schools on GreatSchools begin with BASIC completeness, which includes important information like contact details and test scores. It’s up to the school community to take the next steps. As a parent or community member, you can share what you know with other families by writing a review or answering a few questions about what the school offers. As a school leader, you can upload photos, describe school programs, and more with an Official school profile.

The completeness meter moves to INTERMEDIATE, then ADVANCED, and finally HONOR ROLL as you complete the following: 10 or more reviews, at least 1 photo, and 9 program questions parents find helpful.

Just can't say enough good things about Oak Hall School. I've had two children at the school over the past 6 years. Academics and the faculty- are top notch. There is a strong emphasis on character education and the development of the whole child- in academics, physical education, music and the arts. This school is a gem.

This once good school has dropped precipitously in standards. Be careful. They favor athletes and students with money.

Oak Hall School is such a wonderful place for kids to learn. My daughter started school here two years ago at the age of 8. In just two years, she has learned more than I could have expected. It's obvious from the other reviews, that Oak Hall has an excellent curriculum and reputation. It's a very nurturing environment, where your kids will be treated with dignity and respect. I love the fact that the kids have gym four days a week and have a chance to learn spanish at a very young age. No matter what age your children are, they will love this special community. Look no further!

I have three children that attend Oak Hall School, and I cannot be more proud of them and what they have achieved through being challenged by the teachers and curriculum. The leadership has vision in the areas of technology, math and science and the reading requirements have turned my kids into becoming raving fans of reading. Our family is excited with our choice of bringing our kids through Oak Hall School, we look forward to each year as we progress.

When I moved to Gainesville, the first thing I did was to look for the best school for my pre K daughter. I visited several schools and always came back to Oak Hall. The learning environment is excellent, the teachers are amazingly well trained and dedicated to the kids, the activities are fun but well directed, good manners and discipline are priority without making the child feel bad. The parents are great as well, all well involved and welcoming. I would not choose any other place.

After interviewing and touring other schools in the city, there was no competition to compare to Oak Hall. The environment is personable, safe and comforting. After having our child attend here for the past 3 years, I can truly say the teachers and faculty have only the student's best interests and success at heart. It is a "family" environment, with the faculty and staff readily accessible to discuss concerns. It would be my only recommendation for a school. It means the world to have our child in a progressive, stimulating, and challenging academic program but a loving environment as well.

My husband and I earned our doctorates from top rated US institutions after attending public schools in our native countries. After two wonderful years of preschool at Oak Hall, our daughter attended Kindergarten at an A rated public school. It was a disappointing experience in every way, for her and for us. We missed everything about Oak Hall! She joined Oak Hall again at midyear in K. Oak Hall students are maximally challenged and nurtured in a richly diverse curriculum with experienced and dedicated teachers. It is also an institution where character education is smoothly integrated in the curriculum and put into practice in the classroom, on the playground, and during after care hours. OHS offers a quality aftercare program and diverse extracurricular activities. To us OHS simply can't be beat! We can't wait to have a second grader and a preschooler at Oak Hall next year.

I heard about this school from a grandparent that was friends with my mother-in-law. She volunteered at the school and could not stop raving about the academics, arts, science and character education. I am now a teacher as well as a parent at Oak Hall. I am thrilled with the high level of expectations as well as the loving environment. There should be more schools like this one. Take one tour and you will be hooked. I love it!

There is an environment that is maintained by the administration and teachers that is unmatched. This coupled with the curriculum that challenges students to do what they are capable of, but does that while maintaining their (I hate to say this phrase) self-esteem. My kids went Pre-K and K and then we tried the A public school for 1st. One child did fine, but was certainly not pushed to her potential and the other struggled with learning to read in an environment that was more concerned with maintaining order than teaching. They came back, despite a financial challenge for us, to Oak Hall. They went from a mid 1st grade reading level to a 3rd grade reading level in one year. That my friends has nothing to do with the kids involved. It's the environment, the curriculum and the support the children receive that allows them to succeed.

Our third child is now in Pre-K at Oak Hall. There was never a doubt as to where we would send her. She has 2 older siblngs in High school and Middle school. As such, we have been able to see their progression at all levels. Oak Hall has been safe and nurturing yet demanding. This allows our kids to be valued and encouraged, yet challenged and motivated. Oak Hall is a college preparatory institution but not only offers excellent academics, but offers children the opportunity to participate in sports (almost all kids do play some sport) while teaching leadership skills, public speaking, independent thinking and encouraging social and personal responsibility.

Oak Hall truly provides a family atmosphere for all it's children. The administration and the teachers really care about the children and their development as students. Character education is just as important here as academics and athletics and there are numerous ways for the children to grow and express themselves in a safe and secure environment while at the same time being academically challenged. Our daughter started Oak Hall as a kindergartener and is now a 5th grader. She will move up to Oak Hall Middle School next year and her 2 little sisters will start Kindergarten in the fall at Oak Hall. The fact that we are excited to have all three of our children at this school says it all. Oak Hall is truly an exceptional school in all ways.

From the day my treasure was born I knew she was going to Oak Hall. As a product of the public system I didn't want my daughter to be one in hundreds. OH has a family environment yet is able to offer wonderful classes from computers to PE 4 times a week. I love that they recite the pledge, sing the star spangled banner, hear a blessing and recite the OH pledge. The list goes on and on. The one other factore that made this an easy decison was the aftercare program. As a career mom I could rely on the wonderful program they provide and also know that she was in good company with other children she was in school with all day long - she loves her 'play dates at school'. Thank you Oak Hall and the entire staff!

We have been thrilled with our Oak Hall experience. We have one child in Jr K and another will start preschool in the fall. Our daugher has been at Oak Hall since preschool and she absolutely loves it. Prior to joining the Oak Hall family, I was concerned about the learning environment for these young children- I wanted to make sure there was time for play and creativity, and that the curriculum was not overly-restrictive or stifling for this age group. I could not be more pleased. There is the perfect balance of fun and unstructured time. There is most definitely learning going on, and a curriculum is followed- but it is done in a warm, loving, encouraging environment. I love the 'special' classes they are exposed to right from the start- art, music, Spanish, computers, library time- and the focus on values. The teachers and administrators are great!

We couldn't ask for a better environment for our children to learn and grow in. Both our daughter (age12) and our son (age 9) have been attending Oak Hall since Kindergarten. Although very different from one another each has blossomed. We are so thankful for the quality of teachers, the safe environment, character and physical education, and excellence in academics.

My husband and his sister graduated from Oak Hall in the 1980's. Both graduated from Duke University and are now successful, contributing members of their communities. Both remember their time at Oak Hall as some of the best years of their lives and maintain friendships established over 20 years ago. Today, Oak Hall continues to provide a level of education and extra curricular opportunity well worth the tuition. Children who need extra help are recognized quickly and get either individual or small group attention. This was key for my daughter who joined a small reading group led by a dedicated reading resource teacher. Within just a few months, she gained better reading skills that allowed her to feel confident with the rest of her class. Teachers and administators care about the emotional well-being of students and are receptive to feedback and suggestions. Oak Hall is a school of boundless opportunity.

Our two children currently attend Oak Hall Lower School in the pre-k and first grade classes. We are truly grateful for the challenging yet nurturing learning environment that Oak Hall provides. The teachers are enthusiastic and creative and generally invested in their students' success. We love that subjects such as PE and art and music are a part of the standard curriculum and we have been particularly impressed with the emphasis that Oak Hall places on character education. Both of our children love learning and love school and are genuinely excited to get to school every morning.

Our children, ages 14 & 10 attend Oak Hall and have since preschool. Our three year old will attend in the fall. Having gone through the Lower School twice and now completing Middle School, we feel qualified to judge. Our experience has been phenomenal. The administrators have been responsive to any need and go out of their way to accommodate any special request. The standard of education is impressive and the extracurricular activities have provided our children rare opportunities. The greatest testimony to what a wonderful school Oak Hall is belongs to my daughter. She is now 14 and completing 8th grade. She LOVES middle school! Middle school can be the most awkward time of life and she is moving to the High School with the fondest of memories! Thanks you Oak Hall.

I have two children, ages 11 and 5 at Oak Hall, and have been part of the Oak Hall family for 7 years now. I say family because that is what it becomes when you have the parent involvement and outstanding faculty that we have as a school. I feel Oak Hall challenges students to strive for their best, and this gives amazing results. For working parents with demanding hours Oak Hall offers before and after care. With several different extracurricular activities choose from. My 11 year old enjoys the sports offered in the community sports league at Oak Hall as well. Overall, we could not be happier with our expierences over the last 7 years at Oak Hall and look foward to many more!

Oak Hall offers a wonderful sense of community for our family. The staff make it a priority to know and care for all of the children in the school - not just those within their classroom walls. The teachers are loving and wonderfully creative. Last week, my son's kindergarten class was learning about China and used Lincoln Logs to build the Great Wall in their classroom from the front door to the back! In Science, they carved out the creamy centers of Oreos to identify the different phases of the moon. Amazing!

This is our first year at Oak Hall and we love it! We moved up from Miami and this school has made our transition very easy. The kids are happy and we are happy! The curriculum is advanced. My son is in Kindergarten and daughter is in 2nd grade. Their teachers are outstanding! Some of the things that stand out: the character education, singapore math program, spanish program, athletics and I am amazed at how our 2nd grader can parse a sentence perfectly! Our son who is in Kindergarten has made great strides with his reading due to his wonderful teacher and the Rowland Reading Superkids curriculum they offer.

We moved here from Houston last summer and our daughter started JR - KG at Oak Hall School. She has had a wonderful year and has really loved her teachers and the school. I love the student to teacher ratio and how much the teachers care about her. She is often at school all day (she attends aftercare there) and mommy guilt is not so bad because I feel like she is in good hands: AND she always wants to stay longer when I go pick her up! :). We initially were going to send her there just for JR-KG and then put her in public schools for KG, but our experience has been so wonderful that we're going to stay. Additionally, her 3 year old sister will be starting there next year! We always want the best for our kids and we feel that Oak Hall is it!

My children, ages 4 and 7, both attend the Oak Hall Lower School. We have been at the school for three years now and feel that Oak Hall is truly outstanding. Oak Hall provides a safe and loving environment that promotes learning and personal growth. The teachers are excellent and very personable. Children at the school are challenged academically and offered a wide variety of activities unmatched by any school in the area, i.e. physical education four days a week, music twice a week, Spanish, art, computers, library, and weekly school assemblies. The extracurricular activities are also excellent. We are pleased to have both of our children at Oak Hall and feel that the tuition is well worth it.

We have two children enrolled in the school, a third grader and a fifth grader. Our children have been enrolled since Jr. Kindergarten at OHS and we have been extremely impressed with the caliber of the faculty, the administration and the other students. The variety of courses, assemblies, programs and athletics are wide-ranging. Our fifth grader just returned from the Washington, DC trip and it was an amazing trip. OHS was able to see more and do more than other schools because the trip was custom-designed by the OHS teachers. Also, as working parents, OHS has a great after-school program that allows the kids to study, play or participate in the community sports league without us having to leave work to take them to another place. If you are considering OHS, tour the school, attend a class and find out for yourself what a great place it is!

Oak Hall is a school that instils values and ideals in children that you cannot find in most schools today. I provides a top notch education but also a family of support that guides children throughout their life. As a parent I love knowing that my child is being pushed and challenged while also being encouraged to find her place in life. The teachers are amazing and the parents truly do love the children at the school. You will find discipline and support in ever aspect of school and afterschool activities.

I have three children currently enrolled in OHS preschool-elementary ages 3-9. I can hardly believe the strides that each of them have made during their Oak Hall student careers. It is absolutely amazing. The teachers, admin, curriculum, electives, and character building is just exceptional. My husband and I sleep assured that we are providing our children with the best scholastic environment available.

My daughter is a third generation Oak Hall Eagle. My mother taught there for over 30 years, my brother and I graduated from there and now my daughter goes. Soon my son will follow. It is a terrific school and I would put my children no other place!

Although most of the teachers are well-prepared and kind, the curriculum is dry, overly traditional, and lacking in creativity and hands on learning. The four years my child spent at OHS squelched her love of learning completely. She came out with great rote memory skills, but all the AR reading and worksheets (rather than projects, journal writing, etc...) had a negative impact on her skills and her desire to learn. She is now at a Montessori school where she receives more individualized education (small group learning), more experiential learning opportunities, and less busy work and computer testing. We wish we had switched her to a Montessori school sooner. Her abilities and enthusiasm have increased threefold. The behavior of the students at the Montessori school is far superior to that of OHS. Many students were rude, disrespectful and unkind. Such bad behavior was often overlooked because of parental influence.

Middle and High School programs are excellent. Lower School is too restrictive and seems to take the fun out of learning, but the upper grade teachers really respect the students and can see their unique gifts. It has a reputation as a sports school, but the arts programs are fantastic, and there are a number of varied and creative electives in High School, such as Creative Writing, Panel Literature, Comparative Religion, etc. They offer Latin, which the very young and approachable teacher makes cool, not nerdy. It is very small (about 50 students per grade level) and allows students who are bright but less extroverted to not fall through the cracks. My only concern is the college counselling. Many kids go to UF due to Bright Futures Scholarships; few seem to look outside the area. Hard to say whether it's the school, the kids, the parents or all three.

My daughter started high school here a few months ago, and we both love it. The teachers are all fantastic, and the kids are friendly. We just moved to Gainesville from Miami, and the academics at this school rank with those in her previous school. I recommend Oak Hall to anyone- small class sizes, empathetic, well-accredited teachers, and a warm, but academically rigorous atmosphere that will prepare your child for college. Can you ask for more?

Academic programs are improving in this very family oriented private, co-ed K-12 school. Middle school sports are limited, but high school sports are very active and range from the traditional, except football (planned for 2006-2007 year) to golf, swimming track and soccer. Music, art, plays are all there for the taking. My son was in 3 different 'clubs' which are school sponsored and organized extra curicular activities ranging from latin and math to chess. Parents are very involved on all levels, sometimes too much so.
