The school is below average. The Deaf and Hard of Hearing program offered here is separate from the school. The program is lead by an exceptional Speech Therapist and a 3-5gr. teacher. We had a chance to take our deaf 3 year old to many activities with the deaf/hoh program. It is awesome to see the success and clear speech of the children who have been in the program long enough to benefit from the total communication method. This program only serves Alachua county, the county it is funded by. The deaf hard of hearing program helps these kids succeed despite the problems in the school and with their hearing.

If you have a deaf/hard of hearing child, run away from this school. Parent involvement is discouraged due to the teacher's union contract. The speech pathologist is the only person I would give credit too, in trying to improve this school's program for the deaf/hard of hearing.

If the school was failing it would get more attention. So when a school is average the kids that needs help fall through the cracks.

Lake Forest could be a better school with more parent involvement. If you have a parent who is involved in their child's interest and working one-on-one with a teacher it makes the school year better.
