Profile Completeness

INTERMEDIATE

Want to improve this school’s profile? You can!

All schools on GreatSchools begin with BASIC completeness, which includes important information like contact details and test scores. It’s up to the school community to take the next steps. As a parent or community member, you can share what you know with other families by writing a review or answering a few questions about what the school offers. As a school leader, you can upload photos, describe school programs, and more with an Official school profile.

The completeness meter moves to INTERMEDIATE, then ADVANCED, and finally HONOR ROLL as you complete the following: 10 or more reviews, at least 1 photo, and 9 program questions parents find helpful.

Very good teaching staff and programs geared to help the students succeed. My daughter is proud to go to school here.

I would rate this school below average. The administration places more emphasis on the faculty than to the student body. Also, a majority of students in each class period do not bring a book to class, which causes a major class disruption. If the administration would place just as much emphasis on the student and have teachers make students bring books to class every day, whether or not they will need them, then more teachers may want to teach there.

Gulf Breeze High school has really fallen apart these last few years. The athletics departments are a joke. Moreover, the school spends all of its time focusing on FCAT as opposed to actual skills and knowledge students will need in their later years. Its a shame that smart kids from Gulf Breeze have to seek higher learning in the IB program at PHS.

I'm a former student of Gulf Breeze, and I'm now a junior in UF's engineering program. Personally, I felt that the academic programs at Gulf Breeze were not adequate to prepare me for a good school, especially in the areas of math and science. Intelligent students are not really challenged. This was especially evident when I got to UF, and realized what classes other high schools around Florida were offering. I had several great teachers, however I also had a few very bad ones, even in core subjects and supposedly "challenging" classes (AP, etc). Overall there's nothing terrible about the education provided by GBHS--but there's nothing great, either.

I'm a former student of GBHS, and I feel that it fully prepared me academically for my coursework at FSU. It has a great small town environment, and the whole school system was very nurturing for me from kindergarten to graduation. The only thing that Gulf Breeze lacks is diversity, which is a big problem, but that is typical of a small-town school system.

As a recent graduate I can honestly say that GBHS more than adequately prepared me for college academics; I am now a student at UF. To any claims of poor academic quality, you get out of your education what you put into it. As a student who took all honors and AP classes, I had excellent teachers and I learned a great deal. The students who don't push themselves and take regular classes aren't going to have the same high quality experience. There are many great extracurricular activities besides sports. Being a non-athletic person myself, I was in multiple honor societies, service clubs, and fun activities during my four years. Gulf Breeze can be very cliquey, especially if you enter after freshman year. Not a show stopper, though, just something to be prepared for.

GBHS is extremely cliquey and not very welcoming of newcomers. Also, I have not been impressed with the academic rigor (or lack thereof) at this school. My daughter rarely has homework and frequently watches movies (such as Aladdin) in the classroom!

Great school. My daughter graduated in 2006 and now is excelling at the University of Florida. The AP courses and curriculum have prepared her for the rigors of college coursework. The school also provides opportunities to get involved outside the classroom, even outside of sports.

Gulf Breeze High School is an excellent public school in a private school setting. The school consistently has high test scores on the FCAT,etc. proving the students are learning at a higher than normal capacity. I believe the small town of Gulf Breeze plays an important part in their public schools (by the way, there aren't any private schools in Gulf Breeze...). It is a small bedroom community to Pensacola where many professionals live and raise their families. There seems to be an attitude to excel that is passed on to the children. Living in Gulf Breeze is also a prime example of how 'It takes a village' works best. There is an air of concern for not just your family but for your neighbor's. We moved our children from a private Day School in Jacksonville, FL and feel their education is much better at GBHS.

Excellent school. Small town atmosphere with large town curriculum and advanced courses. Many clubs, great teachers, sports and band.

I graduated from Gulf Breeze in 2001. It prepared me very well for college and graduate school. I believe that Gulf Breeze High School was an intergral part in my educational path and provided me with a great foundation acedemically & socially.

My daughter is a freshman and really likes the school. The band program has been very positive for her, promoting confidence and leadership. I have concerns about the dance team, which is under poor leadership and seems to promote the wrong values in young girls. Gulf Breeze is too nice and affluent a city to allow the wrong image of our young women. As far as teachers. there are some very dedicated ones that care. If they ever get rid of the nepotism at the school- and allow better qualified persons to be employed, then GBHS will be the quality school it aims to be.

I graduated from this school in 1997, and it was certainly the best school in the area at that time. The wealthy tax base makes for lots of great programs. Plenty of AP and dual-enrollment classes for college-bound students. The only drawback would be the lack of vocational classes or a shop class of any kind.
