My son has been going to this school since kinder he is now in first grade .The STAFF is great ! From the first person you see Miss.Williamson ,Jennifer,or Nicole . They KNOW all the children it amazes me how they treat all the kids like if they where their own . The teachers are great . They go out of there way to help the students . My son is in Mrs. Gonzalez's class he was having trouble reading .She went above and beyond to help him NOW he's on the HONOR ROLL!!!! I commend the school and there STAFF!!! the program they have .They have a program named Iready which really helps the students the children really learn and have fun at the same time .I have spoken to a lot of other parent's that think the same as I do. I am truly blessed to have my son in FIA .. Mrs.Franjul
I am very happy with the school. Great Teachers who care about the children. Office people know by name the students. Great Principal and Assistant. Very Happy. Children are very safe.
My son is very happy here. 1st quarter hasn't even ended and I have already had my first teacher conference. My son has a home room teacher who focuses on math and science, and another teacher in the afternoon who teaches reading/ss/lang arts and they were both focused and extremely enthusiastic when it came to dealing with some minor set backs with my son. Because these set backs were caught early, my son has a greater chance at getting higher grades when that report card arrives next month. Not to trash his prior school, but I was told about certain things months after and his teachers seemed overwhelmed and "out of reach" with my son. At fia it isn't like that from what I can tell thus far. It is more concentrated and each student gets the individualized attention they need. ClassDojo and iReady are wonderful tools and everyone is extremely friendly helpful and down to earth. My son loves going to school every day and has averaged a B- in reading, something he has been struggling with since the first grade. Kudos to all teachers here, they are wonderful.
I have two children who attend this school. They have been attending since last year. It has been a complete 360 degree turn around from last year to this year. I have gotten almost instant communication from their teacher's anytime I've contacted them. The administration seems to be very hands on and very involved with the students. This week was spirit week and I thought it was great to see that everyone from the students to the office staff and administration participated. There are also a number of new clubs and activities for my children to be involved in. Not only have they stepped up the fun but they've also stepped up the academics. They have this amazing program called iready. It is an online program that allows me to know what area my children are struggeling in. The best part is that it also adjust to their specific needs. My children are in elementray now I will probably keep them here until they go to highschool. ...I am also anticipating the addition of the HIGHSCHOOL!!!!
FIA is a great school. I agree, in the past we had some issues with communication but overall is a good school. Kudos to Mr. Prats, for doing an awesome job with FIA. The teachers, staff and the PTA are the best. Best wishes this school year!
I went online to find the website to the school and came across this page. This is our 3rd year at FIA, my daughter is in the 2nd grade and just came home today telling me how she worked on a laptop and how every child had one. I think it is excellent that they have this kind of technology. I have received more communication from the school than ever before and I can keep up with my daughter's progress through online. My middle school child is, well, a typical 13 year old middle school child but does like the school. Kuddos to all the teachers and staff this year. Mr. Pratts was great as the Assistant Principal but even better as the Principal. I hope you build the highschool soon.
I had posted a review before but I wanted to change it. My child is in Mrs. Lyons Kindergarten class and we very happy we chose this school. In the first month my parents got to have lunch with their grandchild at Grandparents Day. I appreciate that because they are getting older. We also got to see his teacher dressed up as Poccahontas as she read to the kids one night during the book fair. The only time I had a concern the principal addressed it right away, he seemed very open and involved. I wanted to repost and give the teacher credit with her name because I didnt know it at the time.
The school is great, the teachers are great , the only thing I don't agree is that they send too often things to sell. For Christmas the do a kind of dollar Store where they teach the kids to buy and buy and buy ,instead of encourage make gifts for family and friends hand made .It's all about money and shop, shop, and sell to collect money
My granddaughter started at FIA in sixth grade and is now in eighth grade. She can't wait to leave this school because she said "most" teachers, "not all" teachers are kind of lazy and fall asleep a lot. Her mom had to pay the school $200.00 at the end of the school year because she was unable to contribute twenty hours of school service. She is a single mom and the dad refused to contribute. This hit her hard in the pocketbook. The comments about the principal are pretty right on. Same with the comments about the aids. I think the staff there tries to do well but they just can't make the best choices. Teachers should be more diligent in contacting parents sooner if there is a problem with their child such as not turning in homework instead of letting the student drop their grade in class before the interim report is sent home and the parent finds out then. Sorry I couldn't give a better report but this is a new year so shape up or ship out!
Principal is to busy. She doesn't have time for kids, staff, and parents. Some teachers aren't certified and class sizes are large.
Our son is HAPPY, because it is almost time to start a new school year and time to see all his classmates and teachers. I recommend this school to any parent who wants a better education for they're kids.
we love this school! excellent teachers and staff, with new technology inside the classrooms and great pta.
This will be my sons 3rd year at this school. We love the school ande tall of the teachers. The principal is great and the Dean of students is the best. The PTA is the best and strongest any school could ask for. WE wanted to keep our son is a school that has heart as well as the education. I would recommend this school to any family that wants to be involved in their childs education.
600! It really sad that a principal is the rotten apple doesn't listen to parents concern but to her money issue. This school gets grants. There is NO need to ask for money all year . Her professionalism lacks a lot to be said. Staring with her front desk to her whole staff. Some teacher are good but classes are overcrowded they have a certified teacher but an untrained teacher aid. T. School is owned by private sectors whom are not Educator. MS. Lara Principal needs , professionalism. Her organization lacks also. Kindergarten didn't get a proper graduation due to her organization. This school, I am sure it has fixed their numbers to comply. Was told if we don't do volunteer time or pay up I paid $185.00. My child will not be grantee a seat for next school term. Where DOES THIS SAY in the non-existing policy school book. What about the money they get for grants. ? Money gold digger Principal Lara. School system In Florida is well funded by government why are we letting this charter school do this to us. Are they really better than our public school don t get fooled?don't bring you school here.
I try to like this school. This is my first daughter's first year there. This school has communication issues at all levels. The school is more concerned with proving itself through test scores than educating its students. This is a many children left behind school. My daughter has done well because I speak English, work hard with her, and she had a good VPK program. All the same, I have been looking into other options. Already applied to a couple of other schools. Had planned to stay for the full 8 years, but I don't think it's worth it.
As a former parent, all parents should receive as much information as possible when choosing schools. Therefore, I am submitting a post about the current leadership at the schools so parents will understand BOTH schools are under new leadership. The academy transferred management/leadership starting late 2011 and 2012-13 school year. This academy is currently being operated by an education management organization for- profit company. Initially, they promised great things but quickly most observed the school's success from 2005 - /2011 was now a major concern for the future. The school's name was created/birthed out of a desire to educate students and not gain money. The teachers were and are awesome but a closer look at the leadership is one area parents should inquire about if deciding to attend the school.
I removed my child from this school as soon as I found out she was in a class of close to 40 kindergarteners.
My daughter started there at the beginning of the school year 2011/2012. By November I had her at another school. Granted, it is a new school. There are soooo many ways they were not good. I will give a few examples. First, the class next to my daughters class had gone through 4 Kindergarten teachers by the time we left the school. Second, the wonderful principle they hired was fired in the 3rd weed of school. 3rd, the first week of school the kids, about 30 of them, were leaning on a metal fence during a thunderstorm(pre-rain). They told me there would not be more than 20 kids in the classes. Last count in my daughters class was 24. They will tell you there is an aid in each class. Not true. Some classes have occasional assistants. They will ask you to raise money for them at least every week, but one week there was 5 fund raiser sent home. They want the parent to raise funds for them, because they are a profit making business. Don't let their corporation status fool you. There are probably 10 more examples that I could think of, but am running out of room to write. Find another school for your kids.
It's a new facility and as new is lacks on organization. The teachers are good but it's totally oriented in the principal which only cares about money.
