Air Base Elementary is definately a top notch school! When i first toured the school, I was skeptical because the suroundings of the school was not what i expected. I actually went to the school because i was recommended Air Base from someone i believe has great children, very smart. I was especially impressed at how much they knew about China and Africa. I was excited to tour the school, but when i arrived i thought, "nope, not for my child". I talked to my friend about this. In the end, i took my chances. Boy was i glad! I absolutely love this school! My children's teachers TEACH and care about them! My children are happy to go to school and there is always some type of event going on! Kuddos to all of the teachers at Air Base. Kuddos to the leader, Mr. Calzadilla, youre doing something right! I am very pleased with my choice! Thank you!
I just called the school about preschools for my son. I had a couple of questions to ask....I was rushed off the phone, abrutly spoken to, told that they don't give school tours, and told to call back in March. Air Base is supposed to be a good school, but my interested sure dropped. If they don't even have time to answer a couple of questions from a potential parent, how are they going to answer my questions when I have them regarding my sons school work. Very disappointed

I see Air Base Elementary School as the jewel of Homestead. All three of my children have attended this school under both current and past administrations and have only felt that the level of excellence has increased. Over the years, both my husband and I have contributed a great deal to support the various multicultural events that we believe enrich our family. The calibre of the teachers and their innovative approaches have provided many hands-on opportunities for my children, which has instilled in them a love for learning that they have taken to their various middle and high schools. The current principal has always been receptive to any concerns that my husband and I may have had. He makes time to individually acknowledge my children's accomplishments, whether informally in the hallways or in the more formal basis during the honor rolls. I would recommend this school to anyone who values quality education.
Having just moved here from a suburb, I have been more than pleasantly surprised at the individualized attention my son has received not only by his teachers, the librarian, the teacher's aides, and the administration. Moving to a new city I was worried about the level of curriculum that would be offered here but I have been thoroughly impressed at how much my son has learned and how the homework intergrates into the classroom lessons. I have also found the extra-curricular activities at Air Base refreshing. As a working mom I have also been grateful at the Aftercare services that my son's receives. He is able to complete much of his homework there allowing me to spend quality time with him in the evenings. I was also pleasantly surprised to see all the environmentally friendly activities going on in the school. Finally, I am appreciative of the efforts of the janitorial staff to make sure my child has a clean learning environment. I would highly recommend Air Base Elementary School.
My son has attended both KIndergarten and Pre-K at Air Base Elementary. I think this school is wonderful!! I have enjoyed the opportunities to help out for the past two years in my son's classes. The opportunity to volunteer at Air Base is truly appreciated by both the teachers and administration. I am looking forward to the wonderful years ahead that my son has at this school and I am hoping that my younger daughter's experience at Air Base will be just as great.
Absolutely the worst run school I have ever seen. The Principal plays favorites and if you are not in the "club" you are not listened to nor are any issues addressed. The Principal will immediately take sides with his favorites even if they are breaking every rule in the book (My specific case was a mother - also the PTA treasurer - was bringing her infant daughter into the classroom. Stayed there most of the day and the child was allowed free movement in the classroom and frequently disrupted class). When I brought my issue up the Principal spend 75% of the time talking about how wonderful this woman was and how much she does for the school. He didn't do anything to the parent but went after me about my attitutude. I have never been around so many incompetent individuals in my life. Don't let the A school fool you like I was or make sure you are in the "club". I highly recommend not sending your child to this school.
This is my daughter's first year at this school and she absolutely loves it! She is in 3rd grade gifted and wakes up every morning ready to go! This school has a lot to offer the students and is culturally well-rounded. She takes an hour of Spanish every day, which at first she thought would be too much, but that is not the case at all. The teachers and staff are dedicated to the students and parents. She tells people that going to her school is almost like going to Disney World every day......really!
I can not stress how much this school goes beyond the call of duty. I see the Principal greeting almost every student by name, former teacehers ask how my child is doing this year, and my child's current teacher is a blessing. She bends over backwards, in order to provide, my husband and I, learning strategies for my child. This school is WONDERFUL!!!! The only area of concern would be the customer service given at the childcare office. I see my child becoming a life long learner, in large part, because of the dedication of the ABE team.
I have had been blessed with having two daughters (one of whom currently attends) in Air Base. Absolutely excellent school and teachers all the way from Kinder through 5th grade. Administrators and teachers both are thir for your child and you as a parent!
