I have nothing good to say about this school. They are extremely unorganized when it comes to school work. My child entered the school 6 weeks late due to a move. The teachers per class are too many and they didn't explain what or how work was to be completed so my child and I became lost regarding how to do things there. Not to mention the attitude we got from these uncooperative uninformative teachers and staff. I can't wait to relocate back out of this state.
This school is pretty amazing. My daughter was a third grader new to the school, and she was really struggling with reading last year. She received additional help from Ms. Forsman in a reading intervention class and her reading really improved. My daughter just loved her. Thanks to her teacher Mrs.Pamphile and with help from Ms. Forsman she passed to the fourth grade. I am so grateful for all they did for my daughter. This year she is more confident and a much happier student.
This school Rocks! It is Awesome. The teachers are friendly and the administration (Mrs. Coffey and Ms. Bourland) are Fabulous. There are many activities for the children to participate in. Classes are available for parents througout the week in addition to tutoring for kids. The campus is warm and inviting. Student intervention and success is a definately a priority. All staff members are caring and go above and beyond regular duties. Avocado is Awesome and the best school in the area.
In my opinion, this is the best school in the area. The teachers are very informative on the childs progress. The ESE program is exceptional, Ms. Lima did an outstanding job in how she worked with my child. The progress was outstanding. She is very informative. Due to other issues we've moved away from the school, and now my daughter is not doing as well. I wish I could go back.
My Daughter is in Mrs. Bowens 1st grade class. She is great and exellent school. Love it.
My daughter is in Ms. Delancy's 1st grade gifted class. I think it is 'good'. She is a wonderful teacher, yet I don't think that the schools offer enough enrichment programs. There is no Spanish classes until 2nd grade, and no Art class until 2nd grade. No P.E. either, just 'play time'. This may be due to budget cuts, but I do know of other schools that have these classes by 1st grade. Hope this helps!
my daughter is in kindergarden we love her teacher MS.Hardee excellent school
Love it. my son's kindergarten teacher was great! As so were her students....
I like this school a lot. The teachers are great and the security with the kids. I just wished they would of had a graduation for the kindergartners.
Well I must say I do believe this is the best school in the area , however, I dislike the new principal a lot. He did not list Merry Christmas on the Holiday show, he did away with the Kindergartners awards and shows, He has done away with parties in the classroom. Since he came to Avocado the newsletters don't get sent out on time or not at all. The award ceremonies are all messed up. Including the change to not having 'honor Roll' anymore-which I strongly disagree with. I am not pleased and can not wait until my children are out of this school.
As compared to other schools in the area, it's the best. It's true the feel of Godliness has gone, but teaching my kids about God is my responsibility, as the Bible says. I do like the fact that Spanish is taught in the early years, giving more time to learn it properly. Not wanting a child to learn a language that is so prevalent in their community is ignorant. Compare the stats to the rest of the state! I did not see the lack of parties in the school. I saw plenty of parents bringing treats for class parties. I guess the ones who missed the last song, We Wish You a Merry Christmas at the Winter Holiday concert, were the same ones who walked out, making the Principal apologize for their behavior. I do have some qualms about public school, but then I m not able to home-school.
There are several things I dislike about this school. First of all, they start teaching the children Spanish in Kindergarten! To the best of my knowledge, even in South FL, Americans still speak english! They've cut out the adorable Kindergarten school plays and award ceremony which is so important in building self esteem! The 2005 'Winter Holiday' concert program mentioned Kwanzaa and Hanukkah, but not Christmas. We've had problems with several teachers as well as the new principal on varied subjects, and often feel our children are treated unfairly because they are white. All in all, I'll be very relieved when we move so our children can attend a better school!
Both of my children attend Avacado. K and 5th. Myself, my husband and my parents all attended. In the last 5 years since being a parent of the school I have seen it grow and become a wonderful school. One child has been in the gifted program in which I could never say enough good stuff about and now I am beginning to learn that the regular class are just as good. They have accomplished a lot in the last few years with such great teachers that care and parent involvement. The principle is knowlegable and improving us every day.
Great school! Parent friendly. Great teachers! Better than the private school across the street!
My child was enrolled in the gifted program at Avocado Elementary. The teachers actively engaged the students in the learning process and communicated with parents through weekly behavioral reports. I was relieved that the homework was reasonable and supported the day's lessons. Avocado over emphasized the FCAT. The third grade gifted class was required to adminster the same curriculum and weekly tests as the rest of the 3rd grade classes. This severely limited creativity and flexibility. The curriculum also jumped from topic to topic without any real depth. This was a schoolwide decision. I also felt the adminstration needed to work on their communication with parents. At one Open House, there was not enough room for the parents in the cafeteria. At another Open House, 3rd grade parents were addressed as a group and warned about the dangers of failing the FCAT. The tone was quite negative. I would recommend this school.
I love my children's school! The teachers & staff are caring and involve the parents. My children attended a private school before attending Avocado and my son was doing poorly at the private school. In one month of attending Avocado, his reading skills, social skills, and participation dramatically changed! I just wish Avocado went up to 8th grade.
