My children have attended Assmumption for the last 4 years. They have both had wonderful teachers and great friends. They are eager to attend school each day and have learned so much. This school does a great job working with students with a variety of learning abilities. They have a full time gifted teacher as well as a full time ESE teacher to assist special education students. Our family could not be happier.
To respond to "what a joke". So what is the "truth" and how do you know that it is the truth? I also have been extremely disheartened by what I have witnessed this past year. I saw people put more interest in the gossip than in the best interest of the children. For the last 5-6 years this school has grown and developed into a wonderful all around Christian based educational powerhouse, with the children growing into fine young adults. Look at our strong 8th grade class moving on. Say what you want, but the leadership at the school has made it all possible. Maybe "what a joke" just has another agenda. The truth is definitely in the children! Let's hope whoever takes over continues in the high standards set in place., and small minded people stop spreading ugly gossip.
Ha! What a joke! She is just like the wolf in sheep's clothing. She has those who don't know the truth fooled. I'm glad she is leaving, good luck to her.
I have been extremely disheartened by what I have experienced this past year in the Assumption Community . Instead of being an example of a loving supportive Christian environment, it has been one of gossip, hatred and disappointment. The principal is an amazing lady who is a great example of Christianity. She is kind, compassionate, caring, accepting of human diversity, and a true example of what it means to LOVE ONE ANOTHER. It is Assumptions loss. It will never be the same and she will be a blessing wherever she goes.
What a wonderful school year . I am so very happy with my daughters time at Assumption. I couldn't have asked for better. The leadership at the school has been spot on. The teachers and administration has kept the religious values in the forefront of all they do. I hope the new administration will be able to continue next year as we are listing our beloved principal. You have some very big shoes to fill. Good luck and Gods help as you try to continue her work.
I agree with the August 20th and Feb 26th comments. You are spot on! It is sad that more parents didn't come forward sooner. I hope and pray this school can bounce back from the negativity that has come from this principal & her mini-me.
Shame on the parent who spread gossip about a student. You have no right to slander a child in this forum.
This used to be a great school but it has taken a downward spiral over the past couple of years. The principal has let her personal life interfere with her job. Problems are never resolved, she will not call you back and if your child isn't related to someone who works there then they will be treated poorly. As another reviewer pointed out the principals daughter "runs" the aftercare program and is abusive towards the children. Over the past 2 years more families have left this school than it has gained and the problems are a direct reflection of the poor administration. Don't bother takin your issues to the pastor Fr. Fred because if you can't write him a big donation check he doesn't have time for you.
I work in the public schools and am so thankful that my children are able to attend Assumption Catholic school. They look forward to going to school each day and come home excited about what they have learned. They have passionate teachers and sweet, well behaved friends. The staff all have smiles on their faces and know the names of the children.
I have been a part of the Assumption community for many years. The Christ like atmosphere is outstanding. The children are taught Gospel values which is a reflection of the way the school is run. The family environment is welcoming and comforting to both new and returning students. The academic education is rigorous yet all students are able to create and meet goals. Assumption Catholic School is truly a place where you will see teachers teaching as Jesus did.
There is no perfect school. It just doesn't exist! if you are looking for perfect, you will be searching for a long time! A great school does exist, and Assumption Catholic School is GREAT!!!! What is so great about Assumption? The list is long, but here are a few things: 90 Years of education! Loving and caring faculty and administration Catholic identity Rigorous academics Large population of teachers' children attend (speaks volumes) Best teachers in the city, hands down Leadership with open door policy The list goes on. If you are looking for a balanced, well rounded school, well, you have found it. Striving to bring out the individuality in each child is a lost art! Children learn and process information differently. They are all unique, and Assumption Catholic School truly provides a happy, nurturing, well rounded education focusing on individual needs. Our family loves Assumption!!
Sadly, I have to rate the school poorly now based on the horrible mistreatment of the students by the principal's daughter. The principal has placed her high school daughter in a position of power over the younger students (in charge of them in after-care). She abuses this power by verbally and physically mistreating the young students. (E.g., making them sit in difficult positions for a long time, or run laps outside without water.) My children have come home in tears on multiple occasions. I have spoken with several teachers about it and each of them know what is happening, but are afraid to speak up for fear of being fired by the principal (who recently divorced and fired her husband). Children left the summer camp program in droves b/c of the actions of the principal's daughter. This unfortunate event is a poor reflection on the principal's judgment and the oversight (or lack thereof) by school officials.
Assumption has "been in our family for years" I am a grandmother to four students who attend there, their parents attended there, and I attended there! The family atmosphere is superior, the education, morals and ethics instilled in the studernts is beyond excellent. I have opportunity to be on the campus for events and what a great feeling to see other "alumni" of my era still there too! Generations of families tell a story that no marketing strategy can compare to. The feeling of community, dedication and acceptance puts the children who attend there, armed for the "real world" that is so challenging this day and time.....My parents scrapped together the $14.00 tuition, my children are sacrificing for their children and if there is a way to see into the future, my grandchildren will send thier children to Assumption! The school remains just small enough that all children are familiar with each other, the parents are familiar with the students and the adage , "it takes a village.." is put to use daily at Assumption. Children of this generation deserve and will need the strong basis of education and convictions of right and wrong to be productive citizens and role mdels.
I can say without hesitation that Assumption is the gem of Jacksonville shools. The Pastor and the Parish staff have nothing but the interest of the children at the center of every decision that they make. The Principal, her staff and the teachers are all very involved, proactive and modestly dressed. Not to mention that Assumption is the ONLY Catholic school in Jacksonville with Nuns living on campus working with the children daily.
All three of my children love their school and their teachers. It is a very happy and positive place where kids are greeted each morning with smiles and friendly faces. It is obvious when you visit the school that the teachers truly love the children. The students stay busy during the school day and homework is meaningful and reasonable. The office staff is friendly and the school uses technology to individualize instruction with Accelerated Reading and Accelerated Math. Communication is done through Edline.com and they use mylunchmoney.com for lunch payment so there is no scrambling for lunch tickets or money in the morning. Even tuition is paid online. Religion is taken very seriously at Assumption and the Sisters are a joyful influence on our children. I am very happy to be a part of such a great school, especially because my chldren are so happy to be there.
This is a fantastic school its new and updated also my child loves the sports activities every Fri. She plays soccer
We recently transferred our child out of Assumption. We left for many reasons but lack of communication between administration and parents was a major concern. The new principal does not return phone calls, has little experience, and handles issues poorly. I also expect school staff/administrators to set the standard of modesty in dressing; that wasn t happening here. Some of the teachers are fantastic; others are not so. Based on our experience in the primary grades, I wouldn t recommend this school.
I am an Assumption graduate and currently I have three children attending this wonderful school. I agree with a previous parents' review in which she stated that over the last couple of years that Assumption has flourished. What he/she failed to mention was that the current principal was the vice-principal at that time and I believe she deserves some credit for that as well. She is young, but why is that a negative? I have found her to be nothing short of professional and to have the schools best interest at heart. All of the teachers that my children have had thus far have kept me informed of my childrens progress and given me guidance when needed for my son who struggles with school. With the current state of the economy it is a struggle to continue to keep my children in private school, however, Assumption is worth it.
Assumption was a wonderful school and church community. My children attended from preschool and it really hurt to withdraw them recently. The teachers are wonderful and really care. Unfortunately the Pastor is more concerned about profit margins(not supplementing the school budget) and material needs he has become short sighted of what is important. The new principal may not have much experience but she means well and will do what she thinks is best for the school. I hope the school can overcome the present problems. It is a great location in a wonderful town.
Our daughter has attended ACS since pre-school. ACS had issues in the past caused by ineffective educators, administrators unaware of proper education materials and a lack of discipline. In 2004, a new principal was hired who implemented policy to turn ACS around. Since that time, ACS students' have flourished. The principal brought in the proper books, hired qualified educators, updated techonology and improved communication with parents. ACS improved its standardized testing scores and is now one of the highest rated schools in the diocese. However, without notice or cause the Pastor terminated the principal in January 2008 jeopardizing these advances. If I were coming to this school, fresh, I would inquire as to the leadership experience of the new adminstration and potential conflicts of interest since the principal now supervises her teacher husband. I would look to San Jose Catholic and St. Pauls instead!
