HONOR ROLL

Want to improve this school’s profile? You can!

All schools on GreatSchools begin with BASIC completeness, which includes important information like contact details and test scores. It’s up to the school community to take the next steps. As a parent or community member, you can share what you know with other families by writing a review or answering a few questions about what the school offers. As a school leader, you can upload photos, describe school programs, and more with an Official school profile.

The completeness meter moves to INTERMEDIATE, then ADVANCED, and finally HONOR ROLL as you complete the following: 10 or more reviews, at least 1 photo, and 9 program questions parents find helpful.

Sadly, I cannot recommend. Students are not prepared for High School. Especially in math. There is somewhat of a panic in middle school as parents are realizing this.

Over the summer the school went through some major changes, I have to admit I was very nervous. I can honestly say that I am amazed at what they have accomplished with the changes they made! The administration obviously knew what they were doing. The teachers, staff and administration are outstanding. Even the quality of my child's education has improved, which I did not think was possible. I would like to thank Dr Johnson & Shane Tripp for making these hard decisions even when others disagreed. I am proud to be a Hendricks parent!

Take a look at April 18, 2013 and see how many comments were written for one day. Emails were sent to the teachers in groups to write reviews.

While reading these reviews, please notice the last three or four pages of comments. You'll see page after page of positive reviews. Unfortunately, all of the negative reviews began in May of 2014, the same month that several teachers were told their contracts would not be renewed. Coincidence? Probably not. Last year, my wife and I moved our son from a decent private school to Hendricks. We haven't regretted the decision at all. The biggest difference we've noticed is that the student/teacher relationships are phenomenal! Having instructors that truly care about my son and aren't just there for a paycheck is PRICELESS! Spend 30 minutes at the school and you'll see what I mean...

The more time I spend at HDS the more I understand why so many families LOVE this school!! It's been a great first few weeks and I can't wait to see what the rest of the year holds. Skate night was a blast!! It was so great seeing all our families together having FUN - can't wait for the next one! I feel so blessed to be part of such an amazing school family!

The more time I spend at HDS the more I understand why so many families have not reenrolled their students. As I begin to tour new private schools, I will be looking carefully at class size, faculty/student ratio, teacher experience and what school graduating students attend. I am giving one star for teacher quality because I believe the class sizes are too large for one teacher and there seems to be a lack of coordinated curriculum.

- submitted by a parent
August 23, 2014
On the first day of school, we discovered that the class sizes were significantly larger than last year. They are now averaging 21-22 students. Too large for the growing number of students with enhanced needs. If your child needs an enhanced learning program or has a McKay scholarship this school may be the right fit. Hendricks, unfortunately, is now known for taking students that other local private schools will not admit or those that have been dismissed.

Hendricks Day School is an unfortunate example of what happens when a volunteer Board of Directors does not perform their duties at a competent level. The Board of Directors has sat idly while the enrollment has plummeted and academic quality declines. The members of the Board have failed the students of this school and their once trusting parents. Hendricks Day School suffers from negligent leadership.

August 22, 2014
I think the fact that the school fired half of its teachers this summer and doubled the class sizes by reducing each grade to one classroom, speaks for itself. They clearly have no regard for the parents who sent their children to this school for the smaller class size. Apparently the school has enough money to put all new flooring in and to build a brand new steam lab, but they don't have enough money to pay half of their staff. Also have not been impresssed with a single teach there. Do yourself a favor and choose another school for your child. They will get a better education and maybe the staff at another school will care more about the children than the almighty dollar.

Hendricks Day School can best be evaluated by looking at the sharp decline in enrollment. The declining enrollment speaks more than any review ever could.

Hendricks is wonderful! I am sorry the other reviewers felt differently, but I know that my kids are getting the best education. They are also learning to make good life choices. Changes are challenging, but the teachers are amazing and I wouldn't choose any place else for my children!

Take a tour. That would be my advice to anyone considering this school. Despite the changes this year, I am still confident that my children will receive the best education by the best teachers in Jacksonville and that's all that matters to me. Take reviews with a grain of salt (including this one). Do your research, take lots of tours, form your own opinion and make the best decision for your child.

The tuition is already $10,000, add the fact that you have a special needs child who needs smaller classes, and it's an additional $5000-&10,000. That's absolutely ridiculous and more than some people make. I feel like it's a discourages those with discuss needs from attending just the average Mckay scholarship soyldnt even cover the base tuition. It's just such a shame the tuition is so high. How is the school diverse with such socioeconomic standards,

Hendricks has gone from 2 classes per grade from Pre-K 4 and up to only 1 class per grade for the upcoming 2014-2015 school year. The dramatic decline in enrollment speaks for itself.

I have three children attending Hendricks Day School and one who graduated and went on to the Bolles School. I have nothing but excellent things to say about Hendricks, its staff and its leadership. I am a professional with much education myself and I recognize academic rigor when I see it. Hendricks provides that, especially from 6th grade onward. From the lower grades through 5th, I think of the school as providing strong academics (not quite the 6th and up level), but also providing a wonderful and nurturing approach to each student. Personally, I think it's the combination of nurturing and academics that has allowed my oldest to thrive at Bolles in an honors curriculum. My children love the School, as do my spouse and I. It's also worth noting that the School does NOT tolerate bad behavior and is known to expel children with such issues. As parents, that's one reason to love Hendricks -- to know your child will be learning in a controlled, safe, and nurturing environment. If you're looking for an excellent private school that provides strong academics and extracurricular opportunity, all with a reasonable price tag, make sure Hendricks is on your list!

When considering this school ask and be vigilant. Academics are no better than a public school, resources with the exception of music and art are disappointing. You will hear more about making financial contributions to the school rather than academics. Also a lot of this reviews are from faculty, staff and members from their parent teacher organization and alumni club members.

I have been a parent at Hendricks since 2010 when my son started Pre-K3. He is now in kindergarten. He started late in the school year and had difficulty socializing with others and expressing himself effectively. Hendricks staff identified where he needed extra support far better than the three other preschools he had been in before. The preschool program has been so wonderful that he is now a very outgoing, social, academic leader in his class. Having worked in the public school system before, I don't believe he would have been anywhere close to where he is today in that environment, and I credit that to the amazing people at Hendricks Day School.

I have a child in the Pre-K 3 program here at Hendricks Day School and consider this school to be such an amazing blessing. The preschool program offers such a wide range of experiences and opportunities for growth making it worth every penny. He is challenged and engaged on a daily basis, always coming home with fascinating, hilarious, loving stories to share. I have been especially impressed with the open and constant communication between teachers, administration, and the school in general. Hendricks is an open and loving place; they want their families to be involved and feel welcomed. Every day when we come to school, I am confident that I am dropping my little one off where he is loved, protected, and challenged. He is encouraged and pushed constantly to become a better, stronger, more well-rounded individual who can think critically and take responsible risks. At Hendricks, they focus on the mind, body, spirit, and heart. As a parent, there is no better feeling.

It is a loving, nurturing and safe environment blessed with caring and dedicated teachers, staff and administration. The Pre K - Middle School program is phenomenal, they set a high academic standard in a stimulating, fun environment. The students are constantly exposed to art, music, movement at appropriate age experiences in keeping with the times. HDS helps build the "whole child" as they support academic excellence, character building, and good citizenship along with parent Involvement supported by an open door policy. We are proud of the smart, confident, young lady that HDS has helped us grow!

Both of our children have attended HDS. The faculty is top-notch, the extensive resources offered cannot begin to compare with other schools, and the school-community is like no other. Our youngest child has blossomed through the early childhood and elementary programs, gaining both personal and academic confidence. The teachers and staff go above and beyond to create the most personalized experience possible. Our oldest child had the benefit of experiencing Hendricks' early childhood, elementary, and middle school programs, and is now a successful International Baccalaureate high-school student. We love HDS!

As a parent with two children who have now graduated from Hendricks, it is with great pleasure that I return to share my overwhelming happiness with this school. I could not be more pleased with how both of my children have transitioned into high school. Not only have they had success academically, but athletically, socially, and emotionally. Hendricks gave them everything they needed! They both have a 3.8 GPA or higher. My daughter has just been recommended for the National Honor Society and the Spanish Honor Society. She lettered this year as a sophomore in a sport that she played for the first time at Hendricks in 6th grade. Both of my children have more friends than they know what to do with. They have grown into very independent and mature leaders. I can't think of one night that they have asked for help from me for anything. I give Hendricks Day School a thumbs-up for helping my children become who they are today. I cannot think of a better place to raise children!

My children have attended this school since PK3. We have been very pleased with the faculty and environment of this school. My daughter was given the privilege of participating in the athletic program this year. She was encouraged and supported as she learned the sport. What a confidence builder! The faculty and staff are open and loving. We feel valued. The academics are strong and we are confident that our children will be very prepared when they leave Hendricks for high school.

While many schools are cutting back on the resources, Hendricks Day School is doing the opposite. As a parent, and quite frankly as a person, I have learned that if we focus only on facts, we no longer have an enthusiasm for learning. Hendricks promotes the idea that resources work with the classroom and the school as a whole and then integrates all areas of learning. Hendricks offers Technology, Library, Music, Art, Spanish, and PE multiple times a week. The staff loves each child and our children have grown immensely. They not only allow each child to reach their potential, but then take them even further. I love that my child is safe and loved at all times.

As an alumni parent, I often look back at our time spent at Hendricks and find countless ways my children were prepared for high school and college. As I expected, the academic and social transition was very smooth. As an added bonus, the athletic program taught my child how to compete, how to be on a team and the importance of winning and losing with integrity. Sending our children to Hendricks was one of the best decisions we could have made.

Hendricks Day School is a wonderful school. They have a family-oriented and supportive environment. My children have been attending this school for seven years. The teachers are always willing to offer extra help and instruction, when needed. The teachers go out their way to help the children succeed in all they do. The students receive a variety of experiences through the classroom, resources, and extra curricular field trips. Hendricks has been a great school for our family.

This is truly an amazing school. It's not the cheapest private school in Jacksonville, but you get every penny's worth out of it. The academics, as well as the focus on critical thinking skills, are great, but it is really the loving, nurturing atmosphere that makes it so special. My child is in her fourth year there, and she loves it and is eager to go each day. The extended day staff is wonderful as well.

Happy, Smart, Intuitive, Creative and Kind -- these words describe every HDS student from PK3 to 8th Grade...and it is because of the loving environment and attitude promoted and taught by HDS teachers and staff. My 4yr old started in the middle of VPK, and the minute he arrived, he was embraced by all of the students in the school with love and support. There is no bullying. There are no cliques. HDS is a truly unusual school that far surpasses my expectations.

From the moment we stepped on the campus, we, and more importantly our daughter, felt like we were part of a family. The head of school is readily accessible and takes a personal interest in each student s education. We have been on a long journey from our daughter loving school to dreading going in the morning. Once we changed to Hendricks, she loves school again and comes home excited to share with us what she has learned that day. We could not be happier with Hendricks!

As a parent of Hendricks students and as a secondary and post-secondary education professional, I have been pleased with (and certainly not fooled by) the hard, objective evidence of my children's academic and social growth. Whereas I cannot directly testify as a Hendricks teacher to the teacher's experience within the school, the culture of Hendricks is typical of private, upper-middle class prep schools: competitive, participatory, growing, and maybe too competitive for its own good at times. It is my job as a parent and thus member of this community to mitigate that competitive strain on my children and even teachers if I can. In the end, I understand the "Hendricks for Life" slogan to represent an enduring dedication to excellence. If my son's scholastic performance is any indicator, then the Hendricks' culture is viable and worth your consideration.

The best PK3 to 8th grade school in Jacksonville! Caring and loving faculty and staff who look at each child as an individual and tailor their instruction to each child's needs. The children are also taught questioning and how to solve problems and make decisions thoughtfully and skillfully which helps make them successful throughout life. Both of my children went on to the IB program at Stanton College Prep and were very well prepared by the curriculum at Hendricks.

Hendricks is a school that achieves the balance between academic rigor and personal, character development. It is a warm, family-based school that focuses on the unique needs of every single child. Children do not fall through the cracks at this school! Each child's individuality is valued, from their interests to their learning style. With this knowledge and focus, students are able to receive a tailored education that allows them to be challenged in a way that promotes optimal academic success and also to have their interests in other areas nurtured and explored through the many available resources. Teachers and parents work as a collaborative team with the best interest of every student at the heart of every decision. A fantastic place to learn, work - and to just be.

I am in my tenth year of teaching. Before coming to Hendricks Day School, I was losing my passion. I was just going through the motions of an every day teacher. Thanks to Hendricks, I LOVE teaching again! The administration, faculty, and staff love each and every student and strive to help them to the best of their ability. Hendricks lives their core values of love, community, promise, individuality, and discovery daily. The first time I walked into HDS, I knew it was special. The first time I came in contact with the students and staff, I knew it was the perfect school for me. I have finally found the place where thinking outside the box is encouraged, students are allowed to ask questions, and exploration, investigation, and growth is the norm. The students don't aspire to gain information, but instead, knowledge is what they are after. The teachers love their jobs to the point where you can feel their energy radiating immediately after walking into the building. I have nothing but excellent things to say about Hendricks. However, I encourage you not to take my word for it. Come see for yourself!!!

My son is in his second year at Hendricks, and we are so very satisfied with this school. My son is developmentally ahead but yet he receives instruction that is challenging to him! I love that he is learning new things every day. The critical thinking skills and habits of mind have been amazing! How many 3 year olds are caught using the word persisting to describe what they must do to learn how to tie his shoes? We are very pleased with the school's nurturing approach to challenging young minds!

As an alumni, a parent, and a faculty member, I am very familiar with what Hendricks has to offer! As a parent, my children are given so many opportunities to learn and grow in a safe and warm environment. I am often blown away at some of the things that they are doing and learning in class. As a faculty member, I know exactly what goes into the curriculum and how hard working and dedicated the teachers are to their students. I have worked at several other schools and I know that when students leave Hendricks they are prepared for high school and the many challenges that they will face in the coming years. My two kids have been a part of the HDS family for 8 years. I can't speak highly enough for the school and staff. My kids have been challenged academically but in a caring, comfortable environment. The teachers and staff truly care for each child. Also, the sports programs offered at HDS have opened the doors for my kids to play sports they may not have had the opportunity to participate in at other schools. Because of this extra attention, my kids now are playing sports at the high school level. The culture at HDS is truly unique. The differentiated instruction really helps each child learn in their own unique way. Your child will become more confident and secure with who they are. Please take the time to consider HDS where the teachers, facility, and staff will give your child the individual attention and tools necessary to succeed. Wonderful school and staff.

My three children have been part of the HDS family for 6 years. Academically, my children are getting the best education filled with critical thinking and rigor. They have been challenged but not overwhelmed by the curriculum and have learned to love learning! My oldest is completing his last year in the elementary school and we are looking forward to the opportunities in the HDS Middle school. The middle school faculty knows and loves each student. They are always available and excited about their students and our school. I have been a parent at HDS for eight years and was very proud of HDS' academics, athletics, music, and more. However, in the 2011-2012 school year, HDS implemented an "Ambassadorship Program" which was vague and ambiguous at best. In the 2012-2013 year, the school made modifications and allegedly more objective measures, however, even with the adjustments, the "Ambassadorship Program" results are still inconsistent with the feedback of the teachers. The "Ambassadorship Program" is supposed to measure courtesy, responsibility, integrity, scholarship, and persistence of the student but the only true result from this Program is irritation for the student and the parent with no definition or explanation of the resulting score and, in some cases, in contrast with the comments of the teacher(s). After two years of this program (and eight years at this school), my family will be making a change for the 2013-2014 school year where we can still have high academic standards and diversity in the arts and sports, but with a more productive and positive character program.

I am in my 4th year as an HDS parent. I can't say enough about this school. It has taught my son to really think for himself in terms of good decisions vs bad decisions. They really teach you on an individual basis, as "no student learns the same" this is so true and this is how they teach every student. It is a true family atmosphere, everyone from the head of school, the heads of the diff depts, the head of the cafeteria, the receptionist, the finance ladies and everyone in between know you by name. My youngest child is 3 & does not go to this school till next yr but just about everyone on campus knows him by name and makes a point to make him included in everything. It truly is a family learning atmosphere with the top curriculum and so many advantages. When they say they teach you "how to think not what to think" it is true in every aspect throughout the school. I couldn't imagine my children going to any other school after this experience. I am so happy I have my youngest starting PK4 next year which means I will be part of the Hendricks Family (and that's truly what it is) for another 10 years! That will make 14 all together & I wouldn't have it any other way!

We are enjoying our fourth year being part of the HDS Family. We not only are experiencing our fourth year being students of Hendricks Day School, we couldn't imagine our children anywhere else. Of course all schools offer reading, writing, math, some extras but how many of them infiltrate your entire life. Everything we learn, we experience, we do somehow ties back to HDS. We have looked and toured all of the local private schools. None "felt right". It sounds to easy to say it feels right, but from the moment that you walk onto campus to the moment you experience one of those ah ha moments in your child s education HDS "feels right". Our daughters are not round peg round hole kinds of children. HDS not only teaches them in the way they each need, HDS embraces that and supports that. There is a clear attitude of success for the whole child not just the "academic" child. Everything from a Drama Club, to a Cross Country Club, to Pom's Team, to an Environmental Club to Safety Patrol, HDS is there to support the child, the family and the notion that education is not a one size fits all. Most people like their school, HDS parents LOVE their school!

I have been a Hendricks parent for over ten years. If you want your child to learn reading, writing, and arithmetic so that they can pass a test, send them to your neighborhood school. However, if you are looking for a nurturing environment, where your child will not only grow academically but will be given opportunities and challenges beyond a standard curriculum, then Hendricks Day School is for you. I truly believe that the teachers at Hendricks are there because they love the students and they love to teach. With few exception, every teacher that my children have had, taught with passion, warmth, and created an environment where my children were excited to learn. My daughter played three sports while in middle school. Hendricks' athletic programs build confidence, teach responsiblity, and provide a great way for students to be proud to represent their school. They have started to develop more activities for elementary students as well, such as a chorus and pom squad which perform at school functions as well as some events in the city. I know we made the right choice in sending our children to Hendricks.

The reason our family loves this school is because it has become our extended family. The entire faculty & staff makes us feel important and welcomed. My daughter has a team of adults she has learned to trust. What a gift that is! Hendricks Day School is also the only school in Jacksonville postured to take care of each student individually. Our daughter was able to take an advanced Math course in order to prepare her for high school. She also has many choices when it comes to encore classes such as Video Game Design, Renaissance Theater, Television Studio Production, Drum Circle, Test Taking Skills, STOMP, Recycling Club, Art. Beyond the classroom, the athletic program is one of the finest in the city, where students are encouraged to participate and because of this she went out for two sports!

I just moved here in December of '09 was faced with putting my son in a school that was BAD students in the hallway cursing teachers all around did no care etc... I went on a mission to find another school I would feel good about leaving my son in and in two hours I found Hendricks Day. Went inside and found not only a school worthy of my son, but also hugs to make me feel better and shoulders to cry on. WOW what a great team there. My son will be very happy there. :-)

I have two children at Hendricks. There are multiple reasons why we are so happy at this school but I must say that the predominant reason is that the school sees each child as an individual and fosters each child's needs. If a child is gifted and excels in an area, then the school helps that child to reach new and exciting levels. If a child struggles in a particular subject, then that child is given the resources and attention to help him or her. This is a school that truly focuses on education in a family atmosphere.

We moved to Jacksonville in the summer of 2008. Our boys were entering the 5th & 7th grades, so it was important to find a school that 'fit' them. They both came from gifted programs, so we wanted academic challenge. The boys wanted good sports programs. Although they were accepted at other schools that some might consider more 'prestigous', those schools did not feel right to us. After visiting HDS, we knew it was the right fit. HDS is warm and welcoming. It has a unique critical thinking program that provides challenging new ways to learn and think about problem solving. The teachers are enthusiastic and devoted. The staff is flexible and has worked hard to make sure our boys are in the right level/type of classes to remain challenged. We have been very pleased and highly recommend HDS. They will make sure the school 'fits' your child's needs and personality.

We tried HDS because public school was too big and institutional. Couldn't be happier. Yes, it is sweet and small, but more importantly, my kids are taught to analyze information via a critical thinking model. It is a comfort to know when they do search the net they have skills in separating fact/opinion/bias.

A challenging, friendly, critical thinking environment...students are well prepared for the high school of their choice. Science curriculum is particularly strong.

Hendricks Day School has helped me raise my three children. We came to the this school 10 years ago and have been blessed ever since. My children have been well prepared for high school and know how to think about their decisions and problem solve thanks to Hendricks. The atmosphere at HDS is like no other. There is a family friendly feeling and the teachers make learning fun. At the same time the children are challenged and expectations are high. The friends that my kids have made at Hendricks are many and lasting. The field trips to Key West, the mountains, Washington, Savannah, St. Augustine, Tallahassee and Jekyl Island are awesome. The before and after school extended day program is great and helpful to working parents. The sports program is very competitive and strong. It encourages the students to strenghten their athletic abilities and teaches them to manage their time.

We recently transferred our two children to Hendricks. One of my sons has a slight learning disability and I can honestly say his teacher has gone far above and beyond the norm to keep him (and me) on track. She is kind and thorough, and I feel he has progressed substantially largely because of her efforts. Meanwhile, my other son enjoys a rigorous academic environment with yet another outstanding teacher. My only complaint is minor, and echoes an earlier sentiment: they are not very understanding of the working parent. We are constantly asked to fundraise, donate, attend, provide, or come to daytime events, often with a price tag attached. It is difficult, especially when they involve our children in these pressuring tactics. Both my boys are very concerned with numerous fundraising efforts (cookie dough, dress down days, ice cream, box tops) and it has become tiresome.

I have two boys who attended Hendricks Day School, and I was impressed by many things but most importantly the level of instruction and genuine interest and provision for each individual child's strengths and weeknesses. My boys had different strength areas - one was strong in math and the other in language arts. Both were successful because the Hendricks teachers just refused to let either child faulter. The level of instruction was very high allowing both my boys entrance into the high school of their choice. Their Hendricks friends remain some of their best friends today because at Hendricks you make friends for life. Check it out if you are looking for an extension of your family values and want a first class education for your child.

Great school academically. The entire staff is very encouraging/nurturing to its students. The staff continuously trains on the most modern forms of teaching. It s a needed school in the area. Downside- All invitations for events/expos are during the work day. Makes a parent feel as though he's missing out on his child s education. Also, there's no relief in asking for donations. They have their annual donation drive, which is expected. But, they also have an elaborate auction toward the end of the year where they strongly encourage donations (money, computers, weekend getaways?). Individual classes are rewarded if there is 100% participation. Gee, I don t want my child to make the entire class suffer, right? It is a great school, but they should be more sensitive to the working parent.

My 2 boys have been at Hendricks since Pre-K. One graduated very well prepared for high school and the other will graduate this year. Great school for academics and athletics. Middle school goes on class trips to Key West, Smokey Mtns., & Washington D.C. My kids have great memories & friends from HDS. Also, brand new Mac computer lab this year!

Both my childen were in A-rated Duval public schools for three years before being enrolled in Hendricks. I can't say enough about the educators and the administrators. The enthusiam for learning is seen from the principal, to the teachers, to the students and parents. Both children love Hendricks and have regained their love of learning. Thier motto is 'Teaching how to think, not what to think.' and it shows! Due to a recent contribution Hendricks now has IT equipment that is second to none in the county. It is no longer a Methodist school and, while they do have chapel weekly, there are children of all faiths attending. It is also enthically and culturally diverse.

We have just started attending HDS from public elementary school and I am more and more impressed with each day. The cirriculum is challenging and well taught. The faculty does a great job communicating with parents and being accessible. My sixth grader is more engaged with his schoolwork than ever before.

HDS is a growing school, however it has a small town feel. Parent involvement is high. Teachers are loving and encouraging, yet provide discipline as needed. I've compared the academics to those of friends with children attending other private schools in the area. Overall, HDS academics are more advanced. For a school of this size the athletic opportunities are great. I highly recommend HDS.

My two children have been lucky to attend Hendricks Day School for eight years. The academics are very high and the teachers are so caring. It's a wonderful nurturing environment for elementary and middle-school kids, with plenty of opportunities, like art, music, Latin, and a wide range of middle-school sports. We've all made great friends at Hendricks.

This is a wonderful school! I've compared and had 3 children at 3 different private schools and this one is top notch.....no comparision in all categories. Teachers really do care, academics are the best and very challenging, PTO is very active and everyone is willing to work with you or you work with them! The Critical Thinking that they teach and emphasize is wonderful. Please check this school out. You won't be disappointed.

This is my child's first year at HDS. I am very happy with the teacher and the academics provided. I do not feel that they are really getting a lot out of music, art, and spanish. I haven't seen anything since the beginning of the school year come home from those areas.

Academics are first rate. High level of parent involvement in all areas of school. Extracurricular activities are well-balanced with academics. Our son has attended since 3rd grade (now in 7th). He is a unique child, but his teachers work hard to appeal to his strengths and strengthen his weaker areas. He has never once been teased or bullied even though he is 'nerdy'. The Critical Thinking focus in the curriculum is exactly what we want for our son-how to think, not what to think.

Though this school is going through a transition period, I would highly recommend it. Unlike other schools HDS does require a lot of parental involvement. That's what parents are for anyway. The curriculum is top rate and the faculty are also. They require the students to put forth their best efforts in all they do and this school produces children with excellent academics. They encourage the students to be well-rounded and think about issues rather than follow someone else blindly. The school may be rough around the edges after the recent move, but it is a true diamond in the rough.

Hendricks Day School has provided my children with a loving envirnoment and has prepared them well academically, socially and morally. The school has opportunities in the arts and sports that we have also taken advantage of. We have been very pleased at Hendricks- the quality of teaching would also be hard to match. Parents are welcome and encouraged to be a part of activities on campus and to attend field trips, participate on the PTO in various ways. I have found the teachers to be very approachable- they truly want to help each child succeed.

Hendricks methodist Day School is a great school for your child to get an education. But do the teachers really know whats going on behind closed doors. The kids behave terribly and the teachers are to busy keeping themselves happy, they dont even know whats going on. Other than that the sports teams are good, but there arent that many good clubs and not a variety you can choose from of foreign language.

Your child will receive an excellent education here, but along with that comes panic atacks and illnesses from the work load! There's no music available for middleschoolers. There's a variety of sports but girls soccer, softball and co-ed swimming aren't available evry year. The small class sizes allow your child to get individual attention for help and the students are for the most part very friendly. I have learned a great deal from this scool and believe that while some teachers are clueless others give very enjoyable lessons. I have made some of my best friends ever here and hope to keep in touch with them all after I graduate in May.

Hendricks Day School has a great art program, the parents are very involved, and they launched a critical thinking program last year that has enjoyed much support by both parents and teachers. It also had a good enrichment and gifted program until this year. The school decided to spend its budget elsewhere and decided to drop the gifted/enrichment classes. At the same time, we have noticed a large influx of children with learning and behavioral challenges enter the school this year. The school lowered its testing standards to make entry possible for a larger audience. This I'm sure is good news to many, since Hendricks is a local institution that is regarded well by many. Having a gifted child and an academically talented child however, I am very disappointed that my two children were not challenged this year. Consequently, we are looking for a new school this year.
