One of our children attended Paxon for four years and graduated and the other is in their second year. The richness and success of Paxon can be found in the quality and caliber of the students- they are remarkably mature, engaging, assertive, motivated and they are achievers. They have no peers at any school, save Stanton. College has been much easier for our eldest due to the academic rigor and requirements at Paxon. Paxon parents are very involved with their kids and with the school programs, another reason for the quality of the kids. The faculty is constantly evolving, and are for the most part, very good. The new principal and her administration were overdue, and they have done extremely well building on past successes and improving morale and school spirit. The greatest disappointment has been in the athletic programs where parents are lined up in support, the school body comes out and supports in huge numbers, coaches are excellent, but are too few, and outside organizations stand ready to contribute and sponsor improvements to the programs. However, the school athletic director is content with the current level of facilities and teams and has chosen not to grow or improve the program.
My daughter is an excellent student who goes here and works hard to maintain a perfect honor roll. But, due to the staff members the program is really slow and I hardly ever get notified. It is a well-around school.
Paxon is fine. Travel to and from school is 30+min. Teaching is fine but no different than any other AP/IB school.
The theatre department is filled with talent and backed up by an all enduring back bone of a teacher, but tends to take a back seat to some other programs in the eyes of the administration. Students graduating from this highschool will be very prepared for college because of the rigorous acedemic program, and the many opprotunities for extracurriculars. The current principal is taking a more powerful job opprotunity with the school board, so it is exciting to see where this school will go in the next few years.
The academic programs at paxon school for advaned studies is amazing. With the addition of the ib program in the last ten yeras, it has added so much to paxon. The ap and honors courses offered at paxon are superb as well. The extra curiccular activities are great and the special programs such as art, music, and competitive sport teams. The paxon school for adavced studies requires that parents be active in thier child's study and my child loves his life as a member of the paxon family.
The student body is most impressive. They are bright, hard working and disciplined. The parents are super. They are involved with their children and ready to help at any time. It is my opinion that the current Administration and Staff is low - average on a performance scale.
This is an outstanding college prep high school. The students have chances of earning sollege credit through the many advanced placement classes that Paxon offers. The teachers are dedicated to working with students so that they may achieve their fullest potential.
The students and parents are great. There is really not a discipline problem, other than the neighborhood problems which can spill over. The Middle School across the street is very rough. Students are academically motivated and very bright. Many faculty members are very old and should retire. The inate academic ability of the students masks the poor performance of some faculty members. The principal should be dismissed immediately.
Great academic school! As a parent of a student athlete, I would love to see more of an interest in the athletics.
I am a student and this was my first year at Paxon. All of the staff and students and the principal have been very courteous and helpful to one another. There are a number of extracurricular activities here, and if there is not anything you'd like to join, you have the opportunity to start it. Each of my teachers is dedicated to working one-on-one with each student, and spends time based on their availability to help and encourage the student with their troubles.
I love Paxon! The relaxed atmosphere coupled with the excellent teaching staff makes Paxon SAS one of the best schools in Jacksonville.
Paxon is a great school. The teachers are generally excellent and the students are very engaged.
Paxon prepares and provides. My daughter, class of 2003, now a student at Florida State University, left Paxon with the Florida Bright Futures scholarship covering books and tuition for 4 years. My son, class of 2004; has just been accepted at the University of Florida and also obtain a scholarship. Paxon prepares and guides kids who care about education, right up to the college door. One more to go, he is Paxon freshman and doing well!
My daughter graduated, Class of 2003. The curriculum there was excellent. When it was evaluated by her college (Florida State), along with her testing results, she was granted Sophomore status! And how about Paxon being rated as the 3rd best High School in the United States! What a tremendous resume bullet! I'm their biggest fan.
I didn't think going to Paxon would have made a difference once I had made it to college. I was wrong. Paxon prepared me for college in more ways than I actually thought. Paxon acctually seemed more difficult than college is. I'm glad my parents influenced my decision to enroll in Paxon, it's made college easy as pie. :-)
