In spite of being saddled with a caseload of nearly 500, certain guidance counselors go well above and beyond the call of their neverending "course selection duty" to help struggling kids find a path that works. For that we are extremely grateful.

Teacher effectiveness: Ineffective

Communication is severely lacking except from a few teachers, in our experience, so it's difficult to tell whether instruction is effective. Mass testing is not an indicator of teaching effectiveness. Being able to discuss course content at the supper table is. My kids are not often able to do more than recite rote facts they were fed during class. Context is lacking utterly.

Possibly. A student must have true determination to continue to show up at a place where they feel unwelcome.

Develops respect: Disagree

From teachers' short skirts and low-cut shirts to certain adminstrators who are and authoritatively disrespectful of the students (and parents), who could kids develop respect? They have very few models of respect at this school. (There are a number of outstanding teachers and staff members, so this does not reflect on them.)

Possibly it develops compassion inadvertently, because kids have empathy for each other when they're facing yet another Friday School or OSS.

Good behavior is not rewarded; noncompliant behavior is outrageously over-punished. Kids learn ways to get away with breaking endless rules rather than ways to meet reasonable expectations.

Administration is absurd - quick to issue punishment, slow to recognize and correct problems, even slower to recognize good behavior and achievement other than on EOCs. They make it quite clear to parents that they are NOT a partner in their kids' education. There's even a new campaign posted to Facebook to get parents to take action, so I know I'm not the only one who feels this way... Very frustrating to try to keep my kids motivated to do well when they're only told they don't.

The biggest problem with this school is that the school does not recognize a good student when it has one. my son has been in the school system since kindergarten, and has been on a path to graduate high school with a 2 year college degree since 6th grade. he did it! Only one in his class to do so.wants to go on to become a electrical engineer. He was not even invited to scholarship night? school ranking of 120? weighted GPA 5.8? this school system is really messed up! it only works if you take the easy classes so you can have a normal 4.0, do not study too hard or you will not get any scholarships!

Jensen beach high school students are not bad, the problem are the teachers and deans. Teachers are meant to help you motivate you to do something not to bring you down and embarrass you in front of others when you have done something wrong. The school looks really well coming but that's the look to get students. Yes there are some good thing about these school, there welcoming and SOME teachers are willing to help out with what you need. The kids will welcome you and no one will be left alone as far as I know. Deans will not give a thought about suspending or expel you or give you detention, They never try to remember teachers are just human after all HUMAN'S ARE NOT ALWAYS RIGHT.

Jensen Beach High School exceeds any and all expectations I had as a parent. Yes, there are very strict dress codes and codes of conduct, a school this large wouldn't be rated in the top 2000 schools in the US if it didn't! My kids are excelling academically as well as socially! Can't praise this school enough!
