What type of school is this? First of all don't be fooled by our "academies" we don't do technology. Heck, our internet is down half the time and our computers are slow. So if you like technology this is NOT the school for you. We might as well be called JMS. Our teachers are okay, when they are at school. In sixth grade I didn't have a math or science teacher. Our new principal has made some changes that many of us are not fond of. A year ago we were allowed to stand outside. Now in the mornings we must sit in a crowded gym or cafeteria, where half the time we end up having to stand against the wall of the cafeteria. Yet, the new principle has made the school a lot better then what it was before. My last complaint is just brick walls and lack of windows. If you want to get vitamin D everyday this is not the school for you. Have you ever wondered what its like doing to a dark prison? Well Jupiter Middle's dark brick hallways will give you that amazing experience. Over all the school isn't horrible most of teachers are good and I have received a great education having taken 5 High School classes there. Just don't be fooled by the "Technology".
I'm hoping to send my second child to JMS which is out of our zoned area. The teachers at JMS have really impressed me and volunteering inside the school has helped me see how effectively the staff works together. We zoned for the "best" area school and i am very pleased we chose JMS. My child has fewer social issues at her school and teachers are involved and responsive. A child who wants to learn will be challenged. Yes, I wish the public schools had greater resources, but a tour will show how well JMS is deploying it's allocated funds.
Needs a lot of improvement. Jupiter Middle School of "Technology?" Yeah right... the little "technology" we have are always breaking and never being replaced. The school only breaks out borrowed gadgets when the news cameras are here. The teachers (most of them) are OK and the principal is fine. The guidance counselors are generally terrible. Also, expect at least one bus to be around an hour late to school after school. The students then have to sit on the hot sidewalk, waiting for the awful driver to arrive. It's improved since I got here (especially once they got rid of the old principal), but it needs a lot more work. During sixth grade, we gifted kids had 2 teachers who left in the middle of the year and we had random subs who knew nothing the rest of the year. Basically, they tend not to care that much about the students. -Current eighth grader
I pulled my son out of this school in January 2013 and put in in a private school after completing half of his 6th grade year due to being bullied at school and response to it by the Principal at the time( who only served half a year), the assistant principal for the 6th grade, and the 6th guidance counselor. I was told and I quote by the 6th grade counselor "Welcome to Middle school". When I told her my child was being bullied. This school allows the bullying to continue as I have heard from many parents since who have reassigned their kids to other public and private schools. What a true shame!!!!!!
GUIDENCE COUNSELORS ARE THE REAL BULLIES IN THIS SCHOOL. THE ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL PARTICIPATES IN THE BULLYING- ITS ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING-
As a former teacher, I have seen many schools. I am rating this one as below average. The long time principle who was doing a good job left and was replaced by a principle who walked out half way through the school year. One of my childs teachers also walked out at the same time. The amount of homework was minimal, substandard...boring. My child took a computer course and didn't even learn basic keyboarding. My child was not bullied too much, and the school seems to have a handle on that. There are issues with security and I never felt that my child was in a safe environment. All schools have their faults, but the major issue with this one is simply that the education that the students are getting is below average.
worst school ever lots of fights and bullying i am a student and the teachers get so lazy that we have to teach ourselves. you get a detention for anything like hugging your friend or your i.d. is on backwards. its horrible!!!
My daughter was bullied by the students and made fun of by her teachers. I was told by the guidance counselors that they were going to promote her to the 8th grade in spite of her failing grades. They simply don't care. We took her out and she is at Turtle River and is thriving. My son is going there this year and hopefully things will have changed. But, my opinion is that the school is a dump and the teachers are burned out.
If you have a choice do not send your child to this school. Forget about student bullying, kids are bullied by their teachers. If they have a disability of ANY Kind or take medications for any reason, the teacher will announce it to the entire class! My child on a daily basis is asked if he "took his meds" upon entering the classroom, then is made fun of by other kids and if he retaliates, HE is punished! I thought the HIPPA law protected people from public acknowledgment of their medical information, but not a JMS!
I hated it. My teachers were great, but bulling was out of control bad. They did absolutely nothing to help me. I am a former student and am happy I'm out of that nut house. That school was so bad I wanted to die. If you or your kid likes it, your officially messed up. I told my teachers what was going on and they didn't care at all. DO NOT GO HERE!!! Sad and painful memories lie ahead if you do.
DO NOT GO TO THIS SCHOOL!!!! You will get a detention for anything and everything you do. I am in precussion in band and got a detention for getting out of my seat to get my drum sticks! I had my ID in my backpack and was taking it out but the bell rang!!! DETENTION!!! I asked my classmate if we had any homework 1 min before the bell rang!!! DETENTION!!! Unless you want a detention for everything you do DONT go here!!!
Obviously, most of the comments posted here were prepared by JMS staff. This is a terrible school that treats students as cattle. It aims to stifle creativity and teaches only what is required to get good FCAT scores. Students are forced to take meaningless electives, and core courses are taught in the most boring and unchallenging manner possible. Any child would probably benefit more from being sent to a day care center every day, than spending their days in this uninspiring and negative setting.
In my experience edline is under utilized by teachers with little or no posting of assignments or upcoming tests. A bit surprising for a school of technology!
It is a school of technology, and happens to have the best band directer, his motto 'Ame high dream big'He has been taking his kids to perform at the New York heritage festival for years now and we walk away with a gold every year,we are all so the only middle school to perform.Mr.Disteto proves every year that with the right kind of encouragement anything is possible. The same is true for all the staff at Jupiter Middle. Thank you
This school is excellent! All of my teachers are wonderful. They teach well and I learn a lot each day. This school is more than O.K.
This school is ok but the teachers are inconsistent and give students alot of breaks. Some teachers even teach things that are not in the curriculum. The principal is oblivious to alot of misbehaving students and the teachers badger the students to give the class money.
My child was such a happy student at this school, it is such a great school to be involved in!
I was a former student at Jupiter i went there my 7 and 8th grade year.Jupiter is a real good school compared to other middle schools.Im now at Dwyer one of the best teacher there was Mr.Phillips.But if i was a parent and my child was entering the 6th grade i would put her in Jupiter Middle.
I have attended this school since the second semester of the 6th grade, I first attended Duncan Middle School which pales in comparison to JMST,There is an overcrowding problem but all schools have them.Teachers do tend to give out alot of detetions but they also make an effort to get to know you unlike Duncan where they can`t even remember your name.It is good school with mostly kind teachers(not all of them are fabulous but that would be setting your expectations rather high in my opinion). The band is absolutley Wonderful and the band teacher will give anyone a chance and help before or after school.
