Rochelle has consistently been disappointing. My daughter will start the 5th grade this new school year, hopefully it will be a better experience. Last year the alpha teacher was injured and instead of the homeroom teacher picking up where the students had stopped he had them read. My daughter struggled with the math fcat because she went two months without practice until I contacted the teacher. Also, the bullying is way out of hand. And when it is discussed the teachers point the finger at the victim. The only reason she is going back is because Polk County schools are below substandard and I feel she needs a little bit of something other than suffer because the other students are behind.

Rochelle is amazing and I have been going there since kindergarten, this will be my last year attending and I love it so much.Yes, there was a slight bullying problem but they fixed it when the knew principles came. The teachers are awesome and very supportive. I definitely recommend Rochelle.

Rochelle School of the Arts is not the good school you hear about anymore. I enrolled my child there in 2011 and began to see that the good things I heard about were disappearing. The bullying was bad something I didn t know about for a while. I tried to address this with the principle but she seemed to be unconcerned. I wish I hadn t had this experience because the school use to be one of the best. I also wish it wasn t in such a high crime area.

The teachers are great and they deserve respect and the students doesnt seem to understand that,I've been waiting for a long time for my child to attend this school, because I felt like it would be an honor for my child to go there because I've heard such great things about the school, and I'm very disappointed in how there seems to be no limitation set for the children to discrurage them from misbehaving, I feel if the children doesn't know how to behave their needs to be some kind of guideline set to get the kids out that are misbehaving so that students who want to learn can get accepted sooner than 5 yrs, I feel so sad for those poor teachers who are verbally abused and unappreciated at this school! I would not recommend this school to anyone and it has NOTHING to do with the teachers there it's mainly the behavior, The school could use better structure in my opinion...

The music department at this school is awesome! They have high expectations for the students and can seem strict at first until you realize how much they care about the students and the quality of the music. I was so glad when they introduced Orff and Guitar last year, and even though they took Orff away this year it is all my sons ever talk about. I am very thankful for the wonderful music teachers at RSA!!!

i am an 8th grader at Rochelle and i agree with some of you. The school is very dirty, the teachers never really pay attention to the students if they are being bullied except for mabey one or two teachers, there isn't a very good disciplinary system, the teachers arnt very good teachers, they're kinda mean, there isn't a list of rules set down so you dont really know if your doing somthing wrong, and i have been bullied alot. The other day someone pinched me twice and left gigantic bruises on my arm and the teacher was sitting right there and didnt do anything! and this same teacher has thrown things at us when she gets mad because we didnt do something right! this school doesn't have excellent teachers, a strong principal or school leadership, or challenging academic programs. the only challenging class that i have is chorus.

My daughter started Rochelle this year as a 2nd grader we're very dispointed. Had ongoing problems w/name calling, spitting, & choking all yr. She didn't even know the principals name until 2 weeks before the end of school this yr because we'd been addressing things throughout the year w/the guidance counselor and VP Mr. Linholm. We were repeatedly told they were "handling" the harrasment w/both the boys and the girl involved to no avail. Finally she got punched last week and we're pulling her out and send her to her zoned school next year. I had to raise cain to get the boy suspended, the teached hadn't even reported the incident to the office, hadn't called me or the kids parents - nothing - my daughter came home and told me about it, just like every other time, no one knew but the teacher. Ridiculous!

I think Rochelle is Awesome! i've been going there since kindergarten and i'm now in 8th grade, about ready too move on to Harrison! True, we could use some help with the filthyness issue, but they did install some cameras so that there is less bullying, and standing around in the halls. As for the academics issue, I'm a straight honor roll student, and I just was published for my poem. Another plus is that the arts programs rock! I'm a music major and have been a music major except for the first year. I love all of the teachers in the music programs and I know all of the other arts teachers as well. we are a close knit family at Rochelle, and the bullying happens slim too none now. I'd recomend Rochelle to anyone who loves to dance, draw, sing, act, or play instruments anyday! I love Rochelle!

All three of my children go to RSA, and we love it! My son is in 7th grade, and my girls are in 5th & 2nd. My son has been there 5 years, and my girls followed after him. We've not had too many issues, and if/when we do, they are handled promptly and appropriately. All three of my children make great grades, and excell in the arts -- and I think that this school has given them wonderful opportunities. We are very happy there!

Polk county schools just won the John F. Kennedy Center award for outstanding support of the arts in part because of the outstanding arts programs at Rochelle. No school is perfect but I can honestly say my daughter has thrived both academically and artistically in the (almost) two years she has attended Rochelle. The kindergarten and first grade teachers are outstanding.

My son and daughter both attend Rochelle and have found that communication and organization from administrators are severely lacking. Recently, changes in the drop off and pick up procedures wreaked havoc with traffic patterns around the school - simple communication would have lessened the impact. As a chapperone, I have also witnessed disorganization with respect to field trips to the point where I questioned whether or not students safety was a consideration. In addition, my daughter has consistently received very good grades for the past 7 years (AB honor roll every grading period) and yet seems to lack some very basic knowledge especially when it comes to the social sciences and American history. I believe that this is the result of developing the cirriculum based on FCAT testing and lenient grading standards. This school does offer the benefit of a focus on the arts, which I believe translates well to academics.

I agree with many of the parents about the school being dirty. Sometimes i dont want to even go into the restroom! We nned a clean up. But on the other hand the school is terrific. The teachers and staff and everyone around is great. If you are looking for a school for your child/children i recommend Rochelle. I'm in the 7th grade and have been going to Rochelle since kindergarden. I recommend this school all the way!

I went to rsa when I was a child and now my son goes. I too feel that the school has gone somewhat down hill. It seems that they are not as strict and discipline is taken lightly. My son too has been bullied by the usual troublesome kids that you have in every class. Finally, he had enough and slugged one of them, got sent to the principles office, and they said they would talk to other stundents. After talking with teacher, nothing has been said. When my son got kicked in face and his lip was bleeding still when we picked him up after school, no one called to warn us and no one sent a note home. His grades are slipping and he doesn't like being pulled into the center of attention. If your child doesn't have thick skin and is shy, not the school for you.

My 12 year old son went here for his 6th grade school year. However, we transferred him in late January because of the constant harrasment he went through. He was bullied often by this 7th grader and the administratives did nothing to prevent it, or gave any consequences. His grades slowly dropped. However, the music program was pretty nice. He made a small group of friends he shared something in common with, which is chorus. But besides that this school is going downhill, it is dirty, and there is no discipline. I give it a one.

The teachers and music department at Rochelle are amazing! There are, however, many weaknesses in this school. The administration is weak and the school is filthy. The PE program is not good and certain children are allowed to be bullies without consequence. There are many problems at this school.

This school is a great place for kids of all ages, because of the support they get while learning. The teachers are very nice and use discipline when necessary.

My children went there at the start, grandchildren there now...school discipline has become my greatest concern. The children are not as well behaved, expectations of them seems to have dropped a notch. Academically the school on a whole does well (just a few teachers are less than motivated/dedicated), the arts program is a wonderful motivator, the PE program is less than desirable, room for improvement all around however all schools have problems and RSA has probably the fewest of major problems. Parent involvement is great (some are dedicated to helping in a multitude of ways on a daily basis), lots of caring staff members, and on a whole an enriching, positive role for all the students who attend.

I think this is a great art school. But I am not happy with the No open door policy. I love to work in the classroom helping children read etc.. but this is not allowed at this school. I'm not even allowed to walk my child to the classroom door.

Great school, wonderful principal. If your child is involved with the 'arts', this is the perfect school for them to excel.

Great school. Could use a lot more parent involvement. Academics great and the availability of all the arts is fantastic. Good teachers too.

In essence, this arts school serves as a feeder to the wildly successful Lois Cowles Harrison School for the Visual and Performing Arts in Lakeland, Florida. Arts training starts young, with serious dedication beginning in the third grade. Although K-5 students are still exposed to lessons in all of the arts, middle schoolers dedicate all of their elective classes to one of the 'majors': band, dance, drama, orchestra, visual art, or vocal. While the academic load is exactly the same as any other school, the two-period per day arts emphasis provides these students with training that allows for successful auditions at the nearby high school for performing and visual arts mentioned above. Parent involvement is extremely high, with most of these parents going on to support their students at the high school level. The fine, dedicated teachers believe they are providing lifelong education and direction to their students through the arts.

I think that the classroom size is a lot smaller so the teacher gets to spend alot more one on one time with each child.
