This school has been terrific for the transition from elementary to middle school. The teachers are supportive and persistent to get the kids prepared although they are very strict. There are a lot of rules and restrictions, but once the kids learn them, it becomes easier for them on a daily basis. The curriculum moves rapidly along but again teachers will offer help to any student that asks. If the child keeps up with assignments, it goes much smoother.
I drive 30 minutes to have my son go to this school, and we are districted in one of the best middle schools in Lakeland. I have been pleased with most of the teachers, and really do like their very specific method of behavior management - the check book system. 6th grade is a tough year, but by the 7th grade students seem to get the rules. I have never met the principal, and my exposure to the assistant principal was upsetting. There is a problem making sure that the older kids don't pick on the younger ones, but that must be the case everywhere. All in all, the teachers are good, the environment as well as can be expected anywhere, and you don't have to deal often with the principal! As with all schools, the bus ride home is the worst part. I don't care what anyone says, a bus driver can't drive and supervise students!
