(moved) My two children transferd with straight A's to Wendell Watson . In one year they dropped to average grades. I should have went with my gut feeling at the beginning of the year. My children will not go back.
My son attended this school for two years. Although it has a very good grade, I question the staff's ability to handle misbehaving children. He has attended two other schools where teachers and the school psychologist utilized methods to work around his ADHD with success in terms of behavior in the classroom. This school was not willing to work this method. I was told repeatedly to just put him on medication by various staff members. I am very thankful that he's out of that school and is at a good one that is actually helping him.
We have been at several schools in the last Thirteen years and by far Wendell Watson is the best. You will not find a more caring principle or staff then at WWE. They truly want every child succeed.
I am very dissappionted in this school. I have come from out of state my daughter loved school until she came her. There is to much about this FCAT and there not teaching the childern. I am going to have to take my child out of this school.
Wendell Watson is an excellent school, Mrs. Herring and Mrs. Apgar do a great job. Everyone I have come in contact with has been very professional and my son has had a very positive experience. Things are orderly, clean and overall run very well. Hats off to Wendell Watson! Teachers have been great also...
The alpha program with Mrs. Davis was wonderful. She was an amazing teacher and mentor for the children. My son had Mrs. Tharpe for Kindergarten and she truly kept him under her wing.
My son has attended Wendell Watson for Kindergarten and First Grade. It has been such a positive experience that he loves going to school. He is very bright and is constantly challenged to learn and grow even though he has exceeded the requirements for the grade. The staff are professional and friendly. They welcome volunteers to help out in a variety of areas around the school.
I have two children in Wendell Watson and I am very disapointed. It is almost March and I still do not know who the Principal is. I went to a program at the school in the evening and if she was there I would have never known because she never got up to address the parents. There are no incentive programs for the kids, like student of the month, honor roll or anything else parents can attend and meet each other or school staff. I am looking for another school to put my kids in.
I have two children in Wendell Watson Elementary, and I can say nothing but good about the entire staff. They are caring and concerned about the welfare and education of the students. It is unfortunate that the state grades the schools based on test scores, because yes they are teaching to the test. However, given the strict guidelines under the Sunshine State Standards, they are doing their very best to teach all that is required, and to prepare these children for what faces them in the future.
I have been very disappointed in this school. I have a son who had been a good student prior to attending Wendell Watson and getting a teacher who I feel is resonsible for him being so far behind other students in the middle school. They concentrate more on maintaining the 'A' rating with the FCAT than preparing the children for middle school.
