Wonderful faculty, administration, and curriculum this will be my daughters 3rd year and it feels like home to us.
This school has been a savior for my daughter. She started Prek at Rimes just a few months ago and has already learned how to spell and write her name, she sings, is happy and just overall loves her teachers. My oldest son went to another prek run by the school board and came into kindergarten not knowing how to write his name, or even knowing some of the colors. We work with the kids a lot, but see a major difference with this school
Check student security: from 8:15am until around 9am, the staff has no idea who is on campus. There is a drop off area for k-3 grade, many parents choose to escort children to class, creating an environment of unknowns roaming the campus why? Once the child is dropped off at the drop off area, there is no supervision from dropoff to classroom. With many people roaming the area, a child could come to harm, without the staff being immediately aware, and possibly not being aware of a situation until 3pm pick up time. The area where vpk dropoff occurs, is monitored, controlled, gated, locked when complete. The main gate area remains open during the day and entry thru back gates to the school is possible. Dr. Boone admits there a problem, states 'it is an old school with multiple entry points'. It is a scary situation for a concerned parent.
I have had 1 child in this school since it opened as a Pre-K only school, that was 5 years ago, we have dealt with the ESE program right on up to the new 3rd grade teachers. My special thanks to Mrs. Sutton in 1st grade and Dr.Boone the principal, they have made it a great place to learn and thrive. I have to give a special hand to all of the aides especially Ms. Judy and and Julia and Carrie in the front office. All of you are the greatest.
I love having my child attend your school. The faculty and staff are great!
Rimes is a school that not not enough people know about. Teachers are caring and hard working and all students learn sign language as part of the school plan. All Pre-k students are well equiped to handle kindergarden as soon as they conplete the school year. The location is a down part of the school but the neighborhood is improving as the city steps up its plan to clean up the area. This is a school worth considering!
This school really is a diamond in the rough. The fact that it is located in a very low income negiborhood is it's only pitfall. The ESE program is excellent.
