PLEASE READ THIS BEFORE YOU ATTEND THIS SCHOOL i attended this school and it was the worst thing i ever did they do not care the kids are left unsupervised and ive been told from someone who works there that they wright there own reviews on this site and others. If you don't believe this just look at all the reviews there is a lot of 5 stars and then there is a lot of 1 stars how can the few people that have gone to this school have such a huge different opinion without at least some of these reviews being fake. when I went to this school i was miserable they handed me a list of assignment at the beginning of the semester and said do this or you don't pass i was only in 8th grade at the time. I got no help from any of the teachers except for the ones who are now gone. also while i was there the supposed director was never there she was there in total maybe a 2 months out of the entire year. If i had a child you could not pay me any amount of money to send them to this school because it would just be a wast of a year of there life. I can not stress this enough to never send your child there it is the worst possible thing you could do for them and your money is wasted
LOVE this school - our son has excelled in all aspects of life and will graduate next year. We have no worries about him being successful in life and college due to the great and caring teachers and staff.
This is my sons fourth and final school, we have never been happier. This school challenges him while keeping his ld issues in focus. This is our first year and as a parent I can't say enough good things. For my son this is his perfect fit. You know the kids are happy when at 3 or 3:30 you are still waiting for them to leave. Many times I have to go in to get my kid because he is having so much fun... Unlike all the other school my son has attended this one asks for parent imput. One parent had a great idea for a field trip the school arranged it. That was the BEST trip ever, even I had fun and it opened up the kids to so many new career possibilities. It is so refreshing to have an school take the parents into consideration.
School stole from me and damaged my son emotionally. Director promised the world. Two weeks in we were told that last year was different and this year they could accommodate. _________School refused to refund over $3000 leaving me no other school options. We were forced to do home schooling. We also lost all of our McKay.
I am so happy I sent my child to this school, I was very worried about the negative reviews, but I spoke to some of the parents and the admin at length and I decided to take a chances and go with the school. I have been telling all my friends about this school and how happy we have been this year. My child is finally challenged and excited again about going to school. My child loves all his teachers and the kids seem to get along nicely. It is sad that what appears to be one or two parents on a rampage, very glad I did not listen. New Happy Mom
-horrible is the word...got rid of great teachers...to save a couple of $'s raised tuition and administration fees while offering nothing more and nothing new...the only good news is when parents get wise and pull their kids there will be two teachers per student...
Totally awful! It was much better last year, before they merged and moved and ran off the wonderful teachers who had made my child blossom. This year teachers stopped communicating entirely--no emails, no replies to emails, nothing posted on the online gradebook--not one teacher attended our last IEP meeting! Students are allowed to wander around unsupervised--it always took a while to locate our child when we came to the school unannounced, and there were always kids hanging out playing video games--during school hours. Lots of promises from the two directors, but no delivery. I feel terrible having recommended the place to other people last year, not knowing how bad it would all go this year. Our child regressed significantly this year and now needs counseling to deal with certain events that happened at the school.
Without a doubt, this has been the best year academically and socially for my high-school aged son at LCPS. The flexible curriculum fosters creativity and encourages students to learn in a positive, friendly atmosphere. The facilities are well-maintained with a colorful, contemporary design that allows students and teachers to write formulas, notes, and questions and answers across the walls. The kids love this! Technology is a big part of the curriculum, which makes studying any subject even more fun. Perhaps one of the best characteristics of the school is that bullying and negative behavior are totally unacceptable which makes each child feel more secure in their academic environment. For the first time ever, my son has actually enjoyed going to school over the past year. His confidence has increased tenfold and he s enjoying an overall wonderful sense of accomplishment. We ve already registered for the next school year!
The school was much better last year with a smaller student ratio. They seemed to want to work with the individuals talents. There have been too many changes this year in curriculum and staff. Its confusing for parents and the children. Some children need the comfort of school remaining the same for the whole school year. Not sure if the grades they are receiving really reflect what they have learned.
My son loves this school! He was bored in school until attending Lawton Chiles in 7th grade. He was not challenged at all. He helped the teacher teach the students. He has been challenged in this school since day 1! He loves coming to school. The classes are a multi-age setting which I love. The projects are relevant to class work and not just busy-work as in previous schools. He is allowed to go at his own pace so he is not bored. He is learning all the "core" classes plus Spanish, programming and more! We are extremely thrilled!
This school is not what it seems. The administration does not seem to know what it's doing. They seem to have no problem gambling away with students' education and treating them like lab rats. They keep changing schedules, curriculum and discipline policies without informing parents or even their own teachers. The changes are to the worst and fail to service students. Most students are on McKay scholarship and need special education but the changes do not align with the students' needs. They do not deal professionally or ethically with parents and students who question their practices. When we disagreed and confronted the school about these practices we were met with terrible humiliation. Our son was a victim of their practices and we found ourselves with no choice but to withdraw him in the middle of the year. Our son who has learning disabilities had a hard time merging into another school because they make up their own curriculum which does not align with any other school. He also had on his schedule science, government and other classes that were not taught but he was given grades for them. We found out that good teachers/students that disagreed with the school left. Be careful
My son has never been so happy! Lawton Chiles Prep has the best staff and class sizes for our sons needs. He is challenged yet comfortable and we could not ask for a more suitable, unique environment than what we have found for our little guy! Thank you for taking care of our pride and joy.
Caution, Caution, Caution. I can't stress this enough. This school promises things and does not deliver. They are very good at selling the school using plenty of hype. They put on student exhibitions that look good on the outside but in reality students' involvement in these projects are minimum at best. These exhibitions are all show with no real substance. They are selective in the treatment of their students/parents and have no problem humiliating a students/parents if they disagree with the executive director and the administration. They group students in different levels and ages in the same classes with little attention to their real needs. The school has no set curriculum, it is made up as the school year goes. As a result, the students' education is weak and does not align with any other school if you ever want to leave. There is also a big discipline issue and bad use of the internet but the school has no set policy to deal with this problem. The teachers want to do a good job but the lack of communication between them and the administration and poor leadership makes it impossible for them to do a good job. Good teachers and staff end up leaving. We withdrew our son.
Wish they would separate the adolescent from the teenager students. It is a major source of bullying. The staff is aware but do not do much about it.
School is ok. I would not believe all the hype and promotional stuff they do to look good. Once you get inside you will find out they are just average. Some of the staff are rarely there. Not very good at working with children with disabilities. They are very selective of their student and those are the ones you see. some get washed out or are not accepted. I would have to say they choose they prefer the easy students. I believe for 16k a year you could do better.
We recently attended with some very bad results. School represents self as a place that work with Asperger students who are in need of help. Not the case, it is a Prep School that takes Asperger Students. who do not need help but need a better academic environment. School will not tell this. There is a no refund policy and your Mckay Scholarship may lapse if you find this out the hard way like we did. Below are the two top rated school for Asperger students who are in need of help in working with their symptoms. They have a long track record and are well known by Profesional IEP Advocates & Behavioral Specialist. No 1-- Paragon School They deal with the Aspergers part first and then the academics. No 2 - Pace Brantlely The deal with the academics first and then the Aspergers.
I could not be happier with the progress my son has made at this school and the whole school experience. The teachers and staff foster each student's individuality with a curriculum incorporating their needs and interests. Great school!
