Your students want to wish Principal Mardee Powers a speedy recovery, after having a tumor removed from her insides in October 2013. She missed 2 weeks of school and she WAS missed. Get better soon!
We have had a great experience with this school. One of the biggest surprise for me was how involve the principal is. She is always participating like one of us the the events, also is very approchable to parents. Parents and teachers also work together, its a friendly environment. I feel at home. My son started Kindergarten last year and I was so scared leaving him all day in a new place and community I wasn't familiar with. Everything came to place pretty fast. Everyone was helpful and guided us. I love this school and look forward to more years to come.
I will have two of my three children at Denham Oaks this year. We are very pleased with this school. The administration is fantastic- great communication with parents. The teachers are wonderful- nurturing & challenging at the same time. There are plenty of social events to get involved in throughout the year. The principal, Mrs. Powers, seems to really have her heart in this school. She's in the car line most days, at every social event, and even answered the phone when I called the school this morning! I have recommended this school to several friends & acquaintances and will continue to do so. I am excited to say that I WILL have all three of my children attending Denham Oaks next year! Keep it up Denham Oaks!!
I am truly pleased with Denham Oaks. My daughter just completed her first year there. Her teacher, the principal and every staff member I've encountered takes interest in your child's success and well being. I was hoping my daughter would be challenged enough, but still praised for her achievements and that's exactly what we got.
wonderful school and administration. Teachers have been very good and easily accessible. we have two children at Denham Oaks
Teachers and staff are wonderful, understanding to kids. Keep up the great work. Thank you
Great school! Very happy with the teachers and staff. Teachers are doing a great job.
I have two children enrolled at Denham Oaks, a 5th grader and a kindergartner. I am also a teacher in a secondary level public school. Our whole family loves DOES! The school zones were a major consideration when we bought our home. My husband and I were determined that our children would be able to attend here. I don't know of any other school that tries so hard to involve parents. My children's assignments can be rigorous, but the joy of learning is never stifled. Also, the students have more opportunities for enrichment than I see at other schools. The fine arts are alive and well, not a victim of budget cuts like you see elsewhere. Denham Oaks is a great place for children to learn and grow!
I was shocked to see that someone has insulted Mrs. Powers - how inappropraite...My son began in kindergarten and now is entering his final year at Denham Oaks. Mrs. Powers is one of the reasons this school is so great. What principal do you see on the front lines every day - her office door is always open and she takes the time for any concern with students, staff, or parents. I proudly sing the praises of this school and know it well.
The ethnicity breakdown is quite accurate and quite telling as I was very disappointed and disturbed by the lack of African-American activities - in particular MLK Day. I quietly inquired and during the entire month of February (Black History Month) I did not see any interactive or participatory activities - not one poster, not any notice of anything. Can anyone explain why? I find it hard to believe that is is simply an oversight.....
The school in general is really not great. The biggest downfall is the administration. Ms. Powers is much too interested in her own agenda rather than facilitating a good learning environment for the students. She does not follow proper procedures nor is she professional in her dealings with parents. She is much too concerned with the CYA aspect of administration that she has no idea how to do her job effectively. My family is so fed up with the administrations' lack of looking to other avenues of the educational system. With someone else at the helm, the school and staff have potential.
My daughter just started kindergarten, and Denham Oaks had a Kindergarten Camp for a half day a couple of weeks before the first day of school. My daughter felt very confident in going to this school and has really enjoyed going to school each day as she knew what to expect and had a chance to meet the other kindergarten students and teachers. I think this program is awesome!!
My daughter loved her 3rd grade teachers and and the rest the staff. The principal was no exception. The teachers are genuinely loving and nurturing; the children learn accountability and respect. My daughter learned more than was expected for the FCAT and she blossomed spiritually. She is just as excited about the 4th grade!
My children both go to this school and i love it. I talk to lots of parents about how wonderful denham oaks is. My daughter is in her last year and is scared to leave, she has been so loved and well taken care of. The staff is warm, loving, caring, professional and excellent. Pta is wonderful in organizing events. I give 5 stars.
My son just started this year as a Kindergartener and I must say I am very impressed with the school and his teacher. He loves everything about going to school and looks forward to it everyday. I also love that there is not an overwhelming amount of homework and yet my son can read at a 1st grade level and loves to write. I just can't say enough good things about this school.
This is the best school every. My children both love the teachers and staff. My only concern was that there was only one male teacher until this year. Now they have added a wonderful new P.E. instructor who has really brightened the campus. My daughters loved the Disco unit he did a few months ago. Before your critize DOE. I encourage you to stop by and visit the teachers and staff.
My experience with my six year old was horrible. Her teacher had no experience teaching kids in her age group. There were more activities for the parents than the kids and teachers come across as unprofessional and unorganized. Computers were introduced to my child in the second half of the school year. I did not like this school in the least.
My children go to this school, and I have to say that the previous comment is way off basis. My 2 children always tell me about the different things they get to do music class including playing instruments. My daughter is in chorus. Next year my son is looking forward to Orff!
school lacks stimulation for younger children. k5 should allow children to play instruments in music-allow them to sing in chorus they can do so much more then the school allows them to do. School does not see outside of the box and children do so my child tends to be bored and shows no interest in school.
The principal and assistant principal are dynamic and motivating! The teachers are dedicated to best practice. It's a wonderful school!
