This is still a good school, but I am concerned that it is slipping. I've noticed a decrease in the quality of some instruction and discipline of students. I'd like to see the school's management hold everyone, from teachers to students to cafeteria personnel more accountable. Even so, most at this school genuinely care about providing and getting a good education, I just hope they tighten up the bootstraps so it doesn't get worse.

Dont be a parent of a child that has special needs. They are not proactive in getting specialized testing and instruction.

Our kids have been going to McKitrick ever since the school first opened, 9 years ago. The parent involvement is extraordinary and the teachers are great and genuinely care about their students.

Fantastic school! PTA has great involement with the parents & teachers. I have had 2 teachers so far and loved them both. Very caring and just top of the line. Don't waste your money on private shool, this is the way to go. These teachers are the best. Not much help for students with ESE or learning disablities. They don't make that an easy process. This is truly a school for the average or gifted child. VP and Principal not eager to make special arrangements, only down fall. Otherwise this is a fantastic school!

Great school, don't be fooled by the below average per student spending as compared to the state. Most of this is because of high parent involvement mixed with the fact most of the kids come from Cheval which I am sure those above average income folks are helping out. This school finished at the top along with Mabry Elementary for the 2008 FCAT in the district.

Excellent parent and teacher involvement and top county test scores. Tangible sense of pride by both teachers and students with a real 'team' spirit. The principal was selected as Florida's 2007 National Distinguished Principal, given to the state's top elementary school principal.

It's the closest thing to private school you can get from a public school!

This was my children's first year in a public school. We were very overwhelmed by the overall size of the school at first, but surprised at the individual attention both of our children received. The music program is wonderful, every child has the opportunity to participate. There are many opportunities for parental involvement and several 'carnival' type activities for the family to participate in at the school. The faculty and administration are very 'visable' and easy to talk to if parents have concerns or questions. Overall, we are very happy with the experience at McKitrick, we feel that they took an interest in the education of each child individually.

McKitrick is a fantastic school. The dedication of the staff and parents make for a great learning environment for our kids. We can't say enough about it.

About the tests

Florida uses School Grades to measure the overall performance of a school each year on the Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test (FCAT). Each school is assigned a letter grade (A-F) based on three criteria: the overall performance on the FCAT, the percentage of eligible students who took the test, and whether or not students made progress in reading and math. The School Grades are calculated by adding points earned from each of the performance criteria listed above.
