I have two daughters who attend this school and they love it, but I think that they are too relaxed; there is not much for them to do when they are home. I would like to see them being challenged. There is not much motivation or anything that is pushing them to strive for the best. Marathon is a great school, but there is room for much improvement.
Parent involvement is a key. I am new to the school with a 6th grader @ the middle school. I have attended the SAC meetings in the media center on the 2nd Tuesdays of the month @ 6pm. I am learning about all the exciting new programs the school is taking on for the students. The school is working hard to put students @ the top to be prepared for College or future careers. I want to be involved as much as I can for my 6th graders future. I hope ALL parents feel this way and start to Volunteer.
The school offers an excellent visual arts program in a state of the art facility.
Great school! Brand new 47 million dollar campus with a great principal and good teaachers who care. The school is moving in the right direction on the way to greatness.
Many of the students are there for a free ride and as a result make it difficult for the good teachers to teach, and inhibits the learning for those that do want to learn. Students are not ready for college.
a child can easily succeed in marathon...Its a great school! True there not many variety in there programs...but compare with other schools and marathon seems to be the best in the world...i really hope to go bck my current school is 200 times worse than marathon!
the music program is in shambles first of all. This school is extremely hard to work with also and is uncooperative. The staff has an extremely high turnover rate, with all administrators being replaced this year, and a new band director coming in every year. The marching band continues to plummet in size, and despite this, the administration frowns on students who bring this up.
The discipline problems in this school are profound given the size of the school. It is an aging campus that desperately needs to be rebuilt. There are very limited vocational programs. Only three years of foreign language instruction is offered. Class sizes are rather large. AP classes are also limited. The music program is currently in shambles. It does have a strong football program if that is important to you.
