My daughter is 7 and has some developmental delays. This school has been very understanding of this and has made all efforts possible to aid her disabilities. She is a very outgoing young lady and needs alot of support some days and this school provides it. The communication between myself and the staff is excellent. If a problem arrises I am always made aware of it and asked for suggestion on how to get my child back on track. This school is great for putting the child first.
My daughter has attended this school for two years now and in my opinion this school is very good with the children in helping them in there skills and weaknesses.
My kids have been in this school for a week, and I am blown away by the friendliness that the staff shows to the students. WOW! I have been to the school several times, and the teachers are bombarded with kids hugging them and it is a welcome sight for this Mom! I see that the kids really enjoy the teachers at Golson, and that is fantastic. My children are adjusting very, very well. I have received excellent communication from the teachers, and I am greatly relieved!
This is my child's second year attending Golson. The first year was great. I was very pleased with his teacher and the aide. I love the fact that the staff is very friendly and encourages parent involvement. If at anytime I had questions or concerns the teachers were more then willing to provide me with advice and information in regards to my questions. However I feel like the principal could be more involved in the school. The 2 years my child had attended I have seen the Vice-principal everyday and the Pricipal twice. The quality of the school as a whole is great. As the other parent stated 'never received timely notification relating to school activities, meetings, picture days, etc. '
My son attended kindergarten at Golson during the schoool yr 2002-2003. I was very pleased with the care and concern he received from his teacher. She is a long time employee, has been named Jackson Co. Teacher of the Year and shows a great deal of professionalism. She was very communicative and interested in my child, as well as the other children in her classroom. I was so pleased to have her as my child's first teacher. She welcomed parent involvement. My overall opinion of the principal is that she is not totally involved in the activities of the school, but delegates this responsibility to para-professional staff. I never received timely notification relating to school activities, meetings, picture days, etc. (well if you count 2 days with a note sent home via the child's back pack). I believe there could be action taken to improve the management of the school and boost parent involvement. Also the school district does not provide adequate assistance for classroom aides for special needs children without a battle. State mandates are not freely given. Budget is not always the problem, overall care and concern should be given to educating Florida's young children.
