I took the entrance exam today and the enviroment is amazing, The teachers are funny. It's a nice big school
I have three sons and they all attended CCHS, two have graduated and the third is in his senior year. My sons are all proud of their school and claim they will send their boys there if they still live in the Miami area. From a parent's perspective, I've seen my boys grow up into caring, bright and responsible young men. They each handle their committments to academics differently and the school has placed them in a program that's both challenging but allows them to succeed. I am glad we made the decision to enroll them in this school.
A 30 year old experience is certainly invalid and irrelevant today. I have not heard of any "meathead" coaches teaching any academic courses.
I had the misfortune of attending CCHS all 4 years. 30 years later I still think that was the worst time of my life. There were more than a couple of amazing teachers & I remain grateful for their influence but more often than not classes were taught by by meathead coaches with little interest in the subject matter & even less interest in the students that didn't play a sport. If your boy is all about football, this is the institution for you. But if you're plagued by liberal or artistic sensibilities, run away. The all male environment is kind of horrible, too.
This school promotes itself as having different academic levels. I'm very disappointed. The school places kids in honor classes due to placement tests. They don't look at the child's educational history. They place kids in honor and advanced classed then refuse to place the child at the proper academic level. They don't care if your child has struggled with a subject prior to entering this school. They rather allow your kid to be overwhelmed and fail over properly placing them at the right level. They promise they will work with your kid during open houses. Once your kid is in, they have no problem with setting up your child for failure. They see no correlation between a kids academic history and those placement tests they have. Unless your child is a brilliant kid don't come to this school. Theynhave zero experience dealing with add kids. They don't even seem to care.
Great School, great faculty and the attitude overall is great!! They prepare the students very well to enter college.
My son attended Columbus for 4 years and had a terrific experience. The teachers and Principal knew him as a person not a number. He's been the recipient of an education that was well rounded and good enough to get him a college scholarship. He took AP courses and was a Captain of his football team and one did not supercede the other. My son is not naturally gifted; he has to put in an effort in everything he does, but he found the encouragement to excel. The coaches worked with him because he worked with them and appreciated what was needed. After high school he has continued to garner support from his teachers and coaches and I couldn't be happier with the decision we made to send him there.
My grandsons attend this school and are reciving a fine well rounded education.
From the Administration, to the teachers, to the academics, and last but not least its students this school is top notch. My two sons and several cousins have graduated from CCHS and all obtained academic scholarships to universities and have excelled in their courses of study. From a family who has experienced significant health issues, the Administration/Teachers never had to be asked, they just did and were always present in every way for my family. A school is more than just academics and sports, it must have a heart and instill that giving and empathy in its students. CCHS is that and much more.
CCHS is geared to build the future leaders of our community. My son has acquired in his first two years the confidence, managerial skills, and work habits that will help him become a successful professional. The academic program is tailored to the student so that no one is in over their heads. That been said, I must warn parents that if left unsupervised, the sports programs will swallow your son in. Coaches don't much care about the individual, they're geared for overall success and if your son happens to get injured during the course of getting there, so be it. These same coaches will leave no time for academics (even though they constantly deny this). If the athlete happens to be in honor roll or AP classes this situation is only compounded 10 fold. But if you keep this aspect in check, your son will excell in life.
CCHS does very little in terms of providing for the basic needs of its students. The classes do very little to stimulate our academic and intellectual growth. I am now a senior and through my years I've gruelingly observed that an overwhelmingly amount of the teachers are sub-par, if that. I would love to attend a school where there is a real sense of tradition and where a true brotherhood among the students can be felt. The only reason why I am still here is because my parents can't afford a 'superior education' even though other private schools in the Miami-Dade area offer excellent scholarships.
This school develops our minds, bodies, and our hearts. I am now a sophomore at the school and I would never want to go to another school. It is a school filled with TRADITION. My father, uncles, cousins, and brothers came here and have now gone into the work force as successful and confident men. I hope and pray that I will grow up to become like them and I feel it is essential to come to Columbus so I can achieve that. Columbus is a diverse school with a nitch for everyone. This school teaches the top students and the bottom students. I can say this because my brothers were top students and my father was a bottom student. To this day my father is a successful entrepreneur providing for a large family. And I am proud to call myself a Columbus Explorer. Adelante!
CCHS is a blessing for our family. Our Son has grown and blossomed there - He went to Public School for K-8 and was bullied and often an outcast. At CCHS he has become a confident, responsible young man. The Marist Brothers are the best at relating to these boys and instilling life values that go far beyond academics. I love this school and highly recommend it for its balance between academics, sports, spiritual values and service to others. Your BOY will become a MAN at CCHS.
By far the greatest school in the state of Florida. I've bounced around from top- 50 rated public and private schools, but no school can even begin to compete with what Columbus has to offer. The unique style of teaching at Columbus makes for always exciting and intriguing classes. Many teachers at Columbus are past Columbus students themselves, so they naturally relate to the students better than the average teacher. Even though teachers and administration are very good at what they do, I learned more about life, responsibility, and prioritizing than anything else. If I could go back to Columbus for another four years to attain a high school diploma, or go to any other school for one year, you better bet I'd be back at Columbus.
I attend Columbu, class of 11'. It's a wonderful school, the teachers are funny and caring, and really do teach you a great deal of information. There there if you need help and do there job well. Overall its a great school.
columbus is just awesome...they have everything a student can need...it is a school that fits to the needs of all the students and has different clubs and sports that fit perfect for you...there isnt any teacher that wont take time to help a student...i am a diabetic freshmen who has had many problems this year with my sugar and all my teachers have been there to support me and help me out...columbus is the best school in the universe...once you come here you will never want to leave again...this is a place that should never be forgotton
Great school. i wouldnt change schools if i had the choice. the teachers are competent and can properly educate us.
this school is the best thing that ever happened to me. The teachers are very experienced and the school enviorment is great!!! As a student i feel confident about my future thanks to the school and our great aministration. They have helped me achieve things that i thought would never have been possible. I look foward to my future here.
this school shows discipline and is a great education for my children. I'm glad they there. My children now go to Vanderbilt and Yale.
The teachers are not involved there is no motivation in the students to work. It seems as though students there don't work hard.
