Killian Oaks Academy saved our child. Their comprehensive approach made her abilities and talents blossom. She has friends, loves going to school, and rushes us in the morning to get there. We just held our quarterly conference and her academic and social growth were extraordinary. How wonderful life can be when your child is in the right school. Killian Oaks Academy views learning as a scientific process that engages student's attention through well researched strategies and techniques. Our daughter was lost in her previous school and she was labeled as an underachiever. She is now happy, enjoying school, completing her work, and understanding how to learn. We are deeply grateful for all Killian Oaks has done for our daughter!

I found the best school for my daughter and it is Killian Oaks Academy. My daughter was having a hard time with the students at her previous school and then we discovered K.O.A. which helps nurture their student's social skills. They guide them into developing friendships through their school sponsored extra curricular activities. I am ecstatic with her social and academic progress.

Killian Oaks Academy brought out all the potential that I knew was in my child. He graduated this year with honors after an eight year journey in his second home. The administration and staff worked tirelessly to help him become the confident, intelligent, magnificently talented, and happy young man he is today. The words thank you are not enough to express our gratitude.

After visiting many schools I walked into Killian Oaks Academy and found understanding, compassion, and the expertise to help our family. My son was beginning to give up and Killian Oaks has returned his confidence and sense of self-worth. He is now above level in all academic areas. His teachers are wonderful, the administration is approachable and always go beyond the call of duty. Together they have helped him blossom socially and academically. Gratitude cannot begin to express how valuable Killian Oaks Academy is to our son and to our family.

My children love going to school everyday! Killian Oaks Academy nurtures then spiritually and challenges them academically. As a teacher myself, I appreciate their multi-modal approach where information is presented to my son and daughter according to their unique learning styles. My children's study skills have thrived. They have learned how to highlight important facts, write outlines, summarize information and study for tests. Their scores and abilities continue to improve. Thank you Killian Oaks Academy!

Killian Oaks Academy helped my son to overcome his learning and attentional difficulties. He is now attending the Dual Enrollment program in college and receving straight A's. He learned how to study and how to organize himself at KOA. The administration and staff have been a part of our family for the past 11 years. I am so greatful for the loving guidance and support our son and family continue to receive.

Let's be clear and specific what is really true. In my experience of sending my son there for the past years, it was yet a success. We went all over the place to find the right school for his learning disability and we did a huge leap on finding Killian Oaks Academy. The classroom environment is superb, yet the faculty changes within every month. I'll be realistic on what is really there and what is not for your future references. Education wise, based on 1-on-1 attention it is to the fullest. However, it is not quite a preparation for college. AP/Honor classes there are regular classes in a traditional high school. The after school activities are ridiculous, its not like anywhere else that the student could create his/her own club such as Glee club. You have to pay just to enter a club, when everywhere else is just signing up and walk in. For example, one of the clubs is only half an hour for an insane price that is not even worth the time. When it comes to exams, they give you what will be on the test, not actual studying experience. They say more than what they do in general. Creativity is against the rules there. Great for K-8. Not any further.

Killian Oaks Academy pushed me and I go there! I am graduating from U.M. thanks to K.O.A. Killian Oaks helped me develop my orgnizatonal ans study skills, and above all, my belief in myself. The administration encouraged me to participate in the Dual Enrollmen Program and I saw how I could attend college under K.O.A.'s menorship. Killian Oaks Academy awakened my son and daughter's true potential and helped them excel academically. We were frustrated by the many labels we heard such as dyslexic, dyscalculic, dysgraphic, and ADD. We knew our children were very intelligent and could learn. Killian Oaks Academy supported us as parents and focussed on developing our children's many abilities. They helped them realize their true potential. Our children are happy and confident. Thank you for all you do everyday.

KOA was a breath of fresh air for our son! When he was in kindergarten, our son experienced a few delays. Unfortunately, the school he was in did not believe in accommodating his learning in any way, so we had to find a place that would work with him and honor his style of learning at his pace. At kinder he was coming home with "Fs" and very depressed. We visited many schools, in spending just one day at KOA, our son was a completely different person. He was happy, confident, and excited to do school work. That's all it took. Today, many years later, our son is doing great and heading off to high school. We are greateful for KOA.

After last month s curriculum night, there is no doubt in my mind that we have selected the prefect school for our son. There are many schools in the community that offer a program to meet the needs of children with different learning styles, but none have the professionalism and loving touch that Killian Oaks has. The teachers are trained with the most current research available and the school is up to date with the available technology to enhance student learning. I was impressed with their presentations and how the teacher is able to create an individualized plan for each of their students. The one on one education provided by this school is impressive.

Killian Oaks Academy is the best school in helping students identify their abilities. Before my child entered this wonderful school, he was lost. As a parent who had a student for an extended period of time at Killian Oaks Academy, I want to address a comment that their was unusual teacher turnover at the school. That conclusion is not supported by the facts. As one who is familar with how the school operates, the administration expects a lot from the teachers and the teachers deliver. Teaching in such a school requires continual effort, skill, planning and devotion which is present in all of the current staff. Those few who have left reflect an unwillingness to meet the school's rigorous standards for teacher perfoprmance.

The teacher turnover rate is so high! The administration does not treat their employees well at all. The teachers are excellent, but the leadership lacks in all aspects. It seems like they have no idea what is going on and they are not at all professional. I'd look elsewhere...

Killian Oaks Academy helped our daughter discover her many abilities and gifts. My husband and I were discouraged by all the labels; dyslexic, dysgraphic, and A.D.H.D. Killian Oaks let us know that the word "ability" can be found in "disablity." They focused on her learning style. She now enjoys reading, writes fabulous stories and loves school. She adores her teachers and principal. She has leaned how to develop and keep friends.K.O.A. nurtures and mentores us through the parenting process. Our daughter is happy and we are looking forward to another rewarding year.

We were wandering aimlessly, hoping to find the answer for our son's academic struggles. We visited countless schools, and although we heard all the "right" things, we did not feel them. It is so hard to trust others with the care of your child. When we walked into Killian Oaks Academy and met with the administration, a sense of peace engulfed us. After eight years, and two students at Killian Oaks, I can only pray that others are lucky enough to discover a school that nurtures and protects the entire family. Thank you is not enough.

As another fantastic year at Killian Oaks Academy concludes, I would like to share the outstanding progress that my son continues to make. Three years ago we arrived frustrated from another school. My gifted son was performing below grade level, particularly in reading. Killian Oaks recognized his potential and created an individually customized program that understood and captured his interest and energy. After three years with a great administrative and academic team, he is performing two to three years ABOVE LEVEL in all subjects. For parents of students who are struggling like I was, I encourage you to put your faith and trust in Killian Oaks Academy. Killian Oaks was the answer to my prayers.

Thank you Killian Oaks Academy for believing in my children, their abilities, and their magic. Not only have they been transformed academically, they are happy and confident about their skills. I am so thankful to have found this school for my child. He has been in the school for 2 years. He started not speaking much. Now he speaks, reads, writes, and is great in math. Every time I met with the staff I am amazed at the level my child is performing. Love, love, love this school! We couldn't be happier with our choice. The mastery program is fantastic. The children are encouraged to expand their horizons by working to their own potential and are genuinely excited to learn. My son was falling through the cracks in PS, his self esteem was so low and he was shutting down. Since he's been at Killian Oaks, he's gotten back his spark. He looks forward to school and is excelling, not only in the classroom, but at home and in his extra curricular activities as well.

As a parent of a child with a spectrum disorder, I feel incredibly blessed to have found Killian Oaks Academy. Due to my son's inability to adapt to a traditional classroom setting, he was previously removed from both public and private school programs. At the time, we felt at a loss but once we enrolled at KOA, he flourished immediately and is currently in his third year. KOA not only provides a strong and individualized student program in a small classroom setting, they also focus on the child as a whole. Their life skills program teaches empathy, improves self esteem, and instills attributes that assist for a successful future. At KOA your child will be more than a number or label; they will be accepted and positively regarded as extraordinary individuals.

This school has been a blessing for our child and our family. When we were first asked to leave a school this was the first school that was recommended. We truly feel it was destiny. The administrators and staff have a genuine interest in every child's well being. The curriculum customized so every student works at their own pace. They are also taught exceptional character qualities such as respect, responsibility, honesty, integrity, patriotism, empathy, compassion, etc...They constantly hold events where the entire family is welcome. They run a fine institution and deserve special recognition for being INDEPENDENT (no big profit corporation) as well ACCREDITED. That speaks to the quality of the school.

As a parent who had two children attend this school I can honestly say that the effort, compassion and attention devoted to helping the students learn and develop their academxc skills is remarkable. Because many children have specific learning styles and approaches it takes an expert in this field to understand a child's particular needs which Killian Oaks Academy was able to do. My children prospered as students there and I owe a debt of gratitude to the teachers, staff and Mercedes and Dr. Merchie Ricon.

My son was finally identified by the Miami-Dade School district as "other medically disabled" only after suffering a seizure. Prior to that, the county refused to provide the additional help he needed, regardless of the fact that he was born with cerebral palsy, had several physical challenges and was unable to keep pace with the other students in his classes. Once he was placed on an IEP by Miami-Dade schools, we started looking for alternatives to the public school system. We found KOA by researching schools approved by the McCain Scholarship. He spent 3 years at KOA, during which they brought him up to his current grade level. Not only was he on track, but he was working ahead in several subjects. The director of KOA recommended that we place him in a regular high school, to continue his progress, both academically and socially. We reluctantly followed her advice, and it was the best move we could have made. After 4 years at Palmetto High, he graduated with a 3.7GPA, earned both the Florida Medallion Scholarship, the Miami-Dade College American Dream Scholarship, and tested out of all of the common remedial courses for college freshmen. Thank you, Ms. Ricon and staff!

I couldn't agree more with the post below. I also pulled my child from Killian Oaks. In the three months my child was there, there were at least six or seven teachers that came and went. The learning materials my child brought home were not what were shown to me at orientation or at open house. Instead my child brought home outdated, used material. Workbooks with pages torn out that had previously been assigned to and used by a another child. My child felt the teachers didn't spend the time with him that he truly needed. School administration was unfortunately misleading and can't deliver. High teacher turnover. Extremely overpriced and fell way below my expectations.

I pulled my child out of this school for many reasons. First, my child came home with inconsistent work that seemed poorly planned and outdated. Second, the after-school programs are extremely limited but very expensive. Third, there is no computer class or interesting electives other than music and art which are offered on a sporadic basis, according to my child. For what me and my wife were paying, we were surprised to have very little feedback from the teachers and directors. School events also seemed poorly executed and the staff is constantly changing. Leadership is strange and it looks like they pretend to be accomplishing things that are not real. There is a better deal out there, avoid this school.

Killian Oaks Academy rescued us from a devastating experience at another school. Ms. Ricon and Dr. Ricon embraced our family and let us know that there was nothing to fear, we would be taken care of, and we certainly were! Our daughte's academic skills have soared, and more impotantly, so has her faith in mankind and in her ability to once again trust. My daughter is graduating this year, a confident young woman excited about attending college. Throughout the six years that our daughter has attended K.O.A., the administration ensured that every staff member was trained to work with our daughter and with us. The team meetings where all her teachers were present ensured that the staff met her academic and social needs throughout her personalized program. We certainly appreciate the many times that we just dropped in and Ms. Ricon immediately organized a team meeting. Yes, we needed support when we first walked into K.O.A. and after six years, we can say that Killian Oaks Academy has been there for us every step of the way! We are looking forward to our daughter attending college, and we know that Killian Oaks Academy will remain in our lives.

My husband and I are in love with Killian Oaks Academy. We visited many private schools in Dade County and felt they did not understand our child s needs. From the moment we met with the director, listened to her wisdom and expertise, and saw the warmth and care with which she treated every student and staff member, we knew we had found our new home. It is reassuring to know that with their open door policy, as parents we can receive support whenever we need it. Our son is excited to go to school now and has progressed two years in reading in the past seven months. For the first time in his life, he is doing homework independently and homework is no longer a battle. Before attending Killian Oaks Academy, my son felt he had few friends. With the social guidance that they have provided him, he now feels that he is everyone s friend and a valued member of the school community. We thank Killian Oaks Academy for transforming our child, our family, and our home.

As the single parent of two former Killian Oaks Academy students I could not be more appreciate and grateful to Mrs. Ricon and the KOA teachers and staff for the huge progress and achievement my children made while at Killian Oaks. My son went to a college preparatory program and became valedictorian of his school and is a freshman attending a top college. My daughter is currently a high school junior with excellent grades and a good attitude about school and life in general. I felt as though i would never amount to anything. I was failing at my previous school and my self esteem was in the gutter. If it weren't for Mercedes Ricon and the faculty and staff at Killian Oaks, i dont know where i would be right now. I do know that i would not be experiencing the amount of success i am enjoying now . The one on one attention i received as a student there helped me to discover my full potential. My son has attended KOA now for the past 2 years. Prior to enrolling him, he was having all kinds of problems in the public school system and was lacking the attention he needed in order to learn. KOA was recommended by some friends who had their daughter attend this school. I take my hat off to Ms. Ricon. She pours in true dedication and love into this school and the education of the students there. I find it to be a true blessing to have my son attend this school. Since he has joined, he has been able to progress back to his correct grade level, and I truely forsee him advancing and acheiving his goal ahead of time. We want to commend KOA and all of their staff on such hard, excellent, and dedicated job they do. I would highly recommend this school for any child with learning disabilities!

I am appaled at the comments about this school from people who were only there a short time & failed to pursue answers to their questions. It is also obvious that these people do not have any experience with the private school sector. I have 3 children & the 3rd has several learning disabilities which prevented her from advancing her education in ta standard private school . She has been at Killian Oaks for 3 years now & the difference is huge. She is not only educated appropriately & at a private school level which by it's nature is about 1 year ahead of public schools she has become much more social .The individualized program has allowed her to move slower in areas that she has difficulties with & has an opportunity to understand it rather than just skimming through or being passed as is the scenarios at many other schools.

The principal's glowing presentation of this school during the pre-application process had us confident our child would flourish under the educational environment at Killian Oaks Academy. After our child's experience in this school, the glowing presentation was met with glaring and disappointing contradictions. We believe that instead of developing a stronger academic foundation, our child's school performance regressed or stagnated. The principal's policy of forbidding teacher-parent communication made it nearly impossible to evaluate performance. Also disturbing was the absence of textbooks for homework support. Handout sheets cannot replace the content and information provided in textbooks. We do not recommend Killian Oaks and its steep yearly tuition.

It is a shame that parents are willing to shell out good money to go towards a less than superior academic experience for their child at this school. The Director puts on a good face to 'sell' her school to parents, then has an 'appointment only' philosophy whereby no parent can truly see the true way the school is run. I would not recommend anyone to send their child to a school such as this one.

The academics are great because of the one on one. I pulled my 4 year old out after 6 months and 2 unannounced teacher changes. They also encourage the use of medicine in the mildest of cases. I was not happy with the fact that the school does not have a playground. Another weird thing is the way the principal runs the school. No sports programs, only expensive after school clubs.

Killian Oaks has a few highly qualified teachers. The administration is not organized and has a narrow view on education. Killian oaks has created a very loving secure atmosphere for our daughter. Class size is small with good one on one attention. Only down side is the fact there seems to be some teacher turnover.

I graduated there last year was my 8th year there. Very helpful for kids with learning disabilities such as ADD & ADHD. A small student teacher ratio. after graduating there i was accepted into the second best school in the state. There are few weakness about this school no or few extracurricular activites. The only extracurricular activites are mandatory and as follows music (basic) and basic(art).

My 5 y.o. son has attended the academy's pre primary program for the past 4 weeks and I am very pleased. After his second day at the academy his teacher suggested a behavior chart. I feel the feedback he receives from a daily behavior chart has assisted my son in improving his classroom behavior. I like the emphasis of the pre primary program on a child's social skills as well as the academic skills. Everyday my son brings home the work he has completed that day and his teacher provides feedback about his day when I pick him up.

The teachers and staff are wonderful. However, there is a large 'turnover' rate. Why? It is not good for the students to see such change.
