Dito! Major nepotism in the school. was convinced and impressed the day I attended orientation. However, when school started, all my expectations and content with the school were erased. I agree with a previous comment that your child will be pulled from class and given indoor suspension without notifying the parent. I left several messages and emails to both the teacher and the principal, which were not answered. I plan to make an appointment with the school board to show that this is NOT proper behavior for any school's staff. I had to force my way to see the principal by going to the office and telling the receptionist that I was not leaving until I saw her. This is more of a boarding school where they treat your children as if they were criminals and liars. I agree with a strict curriculum and punishment but this goes too far. This is my child's first year at AMC. My child has excelled throughout previous years and received high scores on his FCATs, however, he is failing this year. I agree with another review, my child has also developed depression and emotional problems attending this school. This is NOT a happy place.

The high test scores this school brags about are everything that a parent would hope for but it IS NOT what it seems. Tutoring as they call it on Saturdays is mandatory.. Equivalent to a Kaplan course for the FCAT, the children put in an extra 50-60 hours toward preparation for the test? If it's so academically rigorous, why can't they score accordingly like the rest of the county? The children are threatened with 10 detentions for each Saturday missed. That's missed lunches by the way. Upon withdrawing my child, I was told by teachers & other staff to please let the board of education know; to do something!!! They said they see perfectly good children come out of the elementary and once they hit middle it's all downhill because of the principal's methods. With a charter school, you have no recourse with the county should a situation arise. We switched to a full-gifted program that is equivalently challenging and my child is so much happier. Don't make the mistake of thinking that the low rating reviews are exaggerated; for your child's sake and yours.

No, This school it's not for everybody!! It is a very demanding school, not only for the kids but also for the parents! That's why my kids go to Archimedean because I want the best for them and with all the pros and cons this school is doing a great job. The principal is very strict but that's how you have to be when you are dealing with rising teenagers. Saturday school is not mandatory but if you want to be the best you have to work hard! and that's what they teach the kids...

My daughter is in her first year at Archimedean Middle Conservatory. We are amazed at the kindness of students and staff (even though the teachers can be strict at times). We love the way that they teach at the school, although it may seem quite overwhelming. Yes, they are told to attend Saturday tutoring every week in the months before the exams, but only certain days are mandatory. The school also asks the students to attend Wednesday tutoring and stay an extra hour in the afternoons. Again, not all days are mandatory. The consequence for not attending the mandatory sessions is a detention during lunchtime but students are NOT deprived of their lunches. All the school is trying to do is confirm the success in your child's future. It is true that it is not for everyone, but anyone can succeed anywhere if they have the drive to.

(continued #2) I'm a student in....... In Archimedean Middle Conservatory they teach you greek, which helps us exercise how to learn a language, greek math, which helps us learn where some math came from, and philosophy (ethics), where students learn to do the right thing. In Archimedean we exercise our brains and actually work unlike other schools. If you want to be in a school to succeed I highly recommend Archimedean Middle Conservatory. Another thing parents/students might complain about is that the principle is to strict and I can agree on this but no school works with non strict principals or teachers. My principal, Mrs. Moysidis works very hard to help us succeed in life and if there is any problem or conflict in our school even if there it's something little like losing a watch she solves it in one second as some people may call her she is like the agent of our school. This school is the best school in the world. If there is any complaint of people's children not doing good in this school it's not because of the lack of good teachers, principal, and staff it's because they lack effort or don't study enough. This is the best school you can ever find in the universe!!!!!!

This is my son's first year at Archimedean. Yes we wanted our son to be in a structured and diciplined environment. We are devoted and loving parents all we want is our son to reach his full potential, to do his best and have pride and respect for himself and his community, and above all to be happy and successful in his life. We want him to have confidence in himself and the choices he makes. In saying this I would like to state that I am so very grateful for this school, yes it is rigorous and it is difficult, but you must as a parent tell your child to keep trying and to keep with it and to ask for help when needed. If you have a positive attitude, a respect for learning a respect for teachers, this school will bring out the best in your child. My son was an average student and is now gaining confidence and self worth, he has become more animated and communicates with us always telling us about something new he has looked up. His grades have steadily moved up to above average, he is learning greek and philosophy . I say a "D" in this school is like a "B" anywhere else!

Horrible, rude environment! This school prepare very well the students for the state test, they jump really fast to one subject to the next one! CHILDREN need more than this!!! children need to have a ROUNDED education, children need to be able to see their teachers as mentors, as examples. Teachers in Archemedean yell and scream like crazy! life is not about to have HIGH SCORES IN THE TEST! Life is not about to be so competitive that your children are going to be miserable. People who have their children in Archimedean do not know what they are missing !

My daughter was a former student at Archimedean and I had to take her out because she was very upset and depressed about the school. she sometimes came home crying. Some students there are nice and all but others are very mean and bully . The teachers are horrible! They spend more than half the class complaining and not teaching! unlike other schools, this school teaches greek, greek math and philosophy! dont get me wrong you can learn those subjects if you want because they can benefit you but it is very hard and the teachers expect you to learn it like nothing & they expect you to answer exsesive amounts of questions in short periods of time. the teachers are very rude and unfair. The PTO's (the parent, teacher organization) are always asking for money and making us parents spend a big amount of money for some things that will not benefit the students. the school is very little and give exsesive amounts of homework. the lunch there is horrible in the little dirty cafeteria. my daughter came home once with a stomach virus caused from the school lunch. lastly, they have school on Saturday starting from January to May which is mandatory. i strongly recommend a different school

I believe that this school is excellent. You do have to make a commitment because it is not an easy school, but they do prepare the children well, I see it as an investment in my child's future. The principal is responsive when true issues arise.

The culture of this school can be very problematic. They seem to confuse discipline with being rude and brusque. Their striving for academic excellence is admirable and honestly, very attractive to our family. However, it would be wonderful if they had a principal who would strive for such level of excellence also in communication, safety and efficiency in overall school operations. The parking and pick up is archaic and extremely dysfunctional. The emails from the school do not contain phone numbers for follow up even when they request parent help for volunteering and the email itself is a do not reply. The teachers and administrators report being afraid of the principal and literally run and hide when they see her coming. This, to me, is a sign of problematic leadership. It is important to be successful academically but school is a culture setting institution and I am very weary that the culture they are setting is not conducive to overall success in the 21st century. My son is an excellent student and has strong FCAT scores but still we are looking elsewhere

This is my son's 2nd year and I can honestly say it has been the best move we've made. My son's ex- elementary special program basically gave up on him and labeled him lazy not preparing him on the basics such as reading and math. This wonderful group of educators have cared enough about my son and have helped him embrace education and believe in himself again! I will be forever grateful and honestly appreciate this school's strict approach to education. I find the teachers to be selfless and caring enough to come in on their own time on Saturday's before the FCAT and tutor these students for Free. This truly is an amazing school we consider home!

I BELIEVE THAT THE PRINCIPAL LEADERSHIP OF THE SCHOOL IS EXCELLENT. HOWEVER, I FEEL THAT THE QUALITY OF THE TEACHERS COULD BE IMPROVED. STUDENTS SHOULD NOT BE INHIBITED TO ASK QUESTIONS IF THEY DO NOT UNDERSTAND ANYTHING. TEACHERS SHOULD BE A LITTLE MORE RESPONSIVE TO STUDENTS IN THAT AREA. OVERALL, THE ACADEMIC CURRICULUM OF THE SCHOOL IS EXCELLENT, BUT I THINK THAT THE OTHER AREAS SUCH AS SPORTS SHOULD BE IMPROVED. ALSO, I FEEL THAT THE SCHOOL NEEDS TO HAVE ITS OWN AUDITORIUM, WHERE THE PARENTS & STUDENTS CAN GATHER TOGETHER. ALSO, THE TALENT SHOW CAN BE PERFORMED THERE, AND THE AUDITORIUM CAN BE USED FOR OTHER ACTIVITIES, AS WELL.

THIS SCHOOL IS AMAZING I ATTEND THIS SCHOOL AND IHAVE NEVER HAD A PROBLEM SO TO ALL THOSE PARENTS WHO COMPLAIN THEY ARE NOT PREPARED TO MAKE A COMMITMENT AND THAT IS IT. ABOUT BULLYING THERE IS NO BULLYING MAYBE THERE ARE SMALL PROOBLEMS BUT MAJOR BULLYING HAS NEVER HAPPENED AND THE PRINCIPAL IS AMAzING SHE CARES ABOUT ALL HER STUDENTS AND IF SHE PAYS NO ATTENTION TO THE COMPLAINING PARENTS IT IS ONLY BECAUSE THE PARENTS ARE COMPLAINING FOR NO REASON. THIS SCHOOL IS AMAZING AND I RECCOMEND IT TO EVERYONE.

This is the worst school I have ever dealt with! The principle is very rude and does not address parents' concerns or comments. Bulling is a big problem and it seems that it will not get better. The school is too concerned about expanding, for what? If you want your child to attend the High school you will have to reapply. The only reason the school scores high in the FCAT is because they require MANDATORY Saturday school. My kids will not be returning to this school!

My child was to this school in 7th grade, and I can honestly say it was the worst decision we ever made. Every night she comes home bombarded with homework, and she stays up studying until the late hours of he night. Yet she still fails to get decent grades. Every morning she detests going to school. In addition to that, my child is very artistic and doesn't fit in with the environment of this school. The level of maturity in this one differs from other schools. The language arts, science, and social studies courses were fantastic, but the math taught in 7th grade was below par. Even with that being said, she still struggled with homework every night to maintain average grades. This school also has MANDATORY saturday school, which is ridiculous. Can't they fit it in sometime during school hours? This school also has more school hours than a traditional public school, and students have no choice in electives. The computer elective is only an excuse to assign unnecessary homework. This school was disappointing, I don't see why there is so much hype over it. I'm glad we are no longer in Archimedean.

AMC is one of the best middle schools in Dade County. Even though the curriculum is rigorous and the school days are longer, my children have flourished in this school. I've finally found a school that encourages their students to aim for the best even if it takes them out of their comfort zone. The students here are very special and new students are welcomed with open arms. Friendships formed at this school remain intact even after the students graduate or transfer out. The atmosphere is family oriented where everyone knows your name.......your good points and your bad and where everyone looks out for each other's wellbeing. Like most schools, AMC is not perfect but they work hard at pinpointing areas where they can improve. The principal has earned my respect over the years as a tough administrator but a very fair one. She listens, she investigates, and she offers solutions when parents have concerns. Some of the teachers my children have really connected with are Ms. Licciardi, Ms. Lopez, Mr. Santelices, and Ms. Maldonado but overall the teachers are good and care a great deal about each student. As with any school you'll always have some bad with the good but this is also true of the real world. What really amazes me at this school is how accessible the principal and teachers are if a parent has a concern. Communication is mostly done by e-mail between teachers and parents but you can have a face to face talk with any of the teachers when you request one and you can drop by the principal's office at any time. The Greek and the Philosophy classes are what makes this school unique and knowing another language is always a plus. However, my children are learning more than just a language, they are being exposed to the Greek culture and learning from authentic Greek teachers. This exposure can only help them in the future when they have to work side by side with individuals from different cultures.

Being a part of an educational community like Archimedean makes us proud parents. The education that is given to our students is not easy to find in other Miami-Dade schools. Our school provides an opportunity to start in elementary, go on to middle school, and the possibility to finish 12 years of a good education in a high school. During the years our daughters have been at Archimedean Schools we have seen that our school is committed to the rigorous development of student intellect, curiosity and cooperation with a focus on helping students value themselves, their peers and their community. A safe and nurturing environment supports the social and emotional development of students, which is fundamental for effective learning. Archimedean made up of students, teachers, staff and families working together - initiate the young minds to the art of thinking through the teaching of Mathematics, English and the Greek language, and believes that students require multiple opportunities to demonstrate their mastery of concepts. Student s understanding of how they learn empowers them. In their pursuit they promote participatory learning that is experiential, student-centered, developmentally based and individualized to student s particular learning styles and strengths. Also, Archimedean recognizes parents as an integral part of the learning process. Parent-teacher partnerships are important and strongly encouraged. The keystone of the partnership is a circle of communication where information, ideas and concerns are freely shared. Archimedean Schools can demonstrate its achievements through the results in all the Miami Dade tests like FCAT, SAT, NRT, DIBELS, and some important competitions like, spelling bee, geography bee, philosophy competitions, SECME & Science Olympiad at national levels.

I love this school. The administration is very devoted and caring, as well as strict - like she should be. The teachers are excellent, spending endless hours on their students and very knowledgeable. The math they teach is different from the regular American curriculum, they follow more the curriculum of countries that are SUCCESSFUL in MATH, with more depth and less breadth. THEY GO DEEP AND MAKE SURE THE STUDENTS GRASP THE CONCEPT BETTER, as opposed to teaching them everything, but on a superficial level. Learning the Greek language will help the students with science and technology, since it is the basis of so many technical and medical terms. This is a school which managed to become THE NUMBER 1 CHARTER SCHOOL only after 4 years in existence, based on FCAT 2010 results.

I only have good things to say about AMC. Starting with the Principal, what an AMAZING job she does. Very dedicated teachers that spend their own time in helping the children to succeed. Yes, it is a kind of old fashion teaching with extra homework, but among other benefits, it prepares the kids to the huge competition in getting to the best Colleges. If you you want your child to receive the best education available, you can trust AMC with your eyes closed.

This school is NOT what they claim... My child graduated in 2009 and has problems with Math. Ask the principal of Terra. Every student had to go back to Algebra. Even the kids from gifted had problems in different High Schools. DO YOUR RESEARCH.. you will be sorry if you don't. Ms. Moysidis has a personality problem. If you don't agree with her. you're on her hit lis. and your child will suffer. Now that my child is out, she is so much happier. Ask students who have graduated and gone on to other HS. The truth is out there.

Congrats to AMC. For 2010, it is rated 1st in Miami-Dade and 2nd in Florida. Its dual curriculum in Greek and Math is very challenging tailored for success in post-secondary education. Greek, along with Latin, are the foundation of the majority of all technical and scientific terms, and about 60% of all English words. Knowledge of Greek increases English vocabulary, and grammar comprehension and develops the habits of precision, attention to detail, and intellectual rigor. Not to mention that students who know Greek and Latin outperform their peers on the verbal SATs. This school teaches also math in both Greek and English. Through the study of math students develop their critical thinking, problem solving, increased comprehension, and organization in thought. Good knowledge of math is invaluable in the contemporary world. Also, the top highest earning college degrees require substantial math skills.

The school's education program is great. BUT, the students don't absorb much of the information and detest going to school every day. Many of the Greek teachers have outburst and horrible tempers. The students fear the principal, and the teaching techniques are horrible and boring. If you want your child stressed over-studying daily until 2:00 in the morning (guaranteed) then send him/her to this school. Otherwise they will fail. I personally think this school makes for anti-social, depressed children for there are only 201 students compared to the thousands in other also good schools, which means the probability of your child finding a compatible friend is utterly low. Greek is a language that your child will have a very very difficult time learning, and will not serve them for anything in the future, as well as Greek Math.

The teachers at Archimedean are really devoted. My son is able to excel in part thanks to the caring teachers who go above and beyond. I have observed that the administration does not recognize and compensate teachers appropriately. It is very possible that labor laws are being broken here because there is no union membership allowed here and the administration are concerned about there own glory and not cultivating a healthy work environment. For example, teachers were required to work Saturdays one month to tutor students for FCAT and were not paid for this work. I sincerely hope that this school gets corrected for this because it is immoral and abusive to the teachers. Happy teachers make happy, well educated students.

The are several intellectual and extracurricular opportunities for students to interact with their peers that have made Archimedean the 3rd top school in all of Florida. Not only do the students have the opportunity to grow mentally and emotionally, but teachers too have the opportunity to learn many new things from what in my experience have been truly amazing and open-minded children. Archimedean is a major hub of future leaders, artists, writers, scientists, and even educators, and I have no doubt it will remain so for many years.

It has a superior educational level where students are challenged while still encouraged to perform at their greatest ability. Even as intellectual developement is nurtured the school still finds time to also provide the studetns with the arts, physical education and extra curricular activities such as school sport teams which they also excell in.

I love AMC! The teachers are so easy to get along with and it is so easy to make friends! The work is not at all hard but a bit time consuming. The staff is great and every day is a fun day!

This school is by far one of the most marvelous schools to ever lay on this earth. I have been here for 7 years and I am still satisfied. The only problem is that the staff and the teachers the president and everything is too good they are so good at what they do its scary! I am class president of 7D and I know when i see a spectacular school. I am so happy!

Archimedean Middle Conservatory is an exellent school even though my friends say its too hard . Our curriculm is amazingly advanced beacuse we are learning things that they are teaching in high school ! I dont see how the Greek language is going to help us later on but whatever. The more knowledge you have the better!

There is no other school I'd rather have my child in. Teachers in the Conservatory give serious individual help to all students and watch over them as if they were their own children. Parents who complain about the Academy or Conservatory need a serious reality check. The Conservatory educates students in middle grades, so teachers naturally spend less time communicating with parents because the children are older and able to take more responsibility for themselves; however, compared with any other middle school and any other school for that matter, the teachers remain available and contact parents with concerns and updates before anything really serious might happen. Only someone misguided by a lack of understanding would think otherwise.

The Archimedean Middle Conservatory prides itself on organization, employees work hard on communicating with parents through newsletters, sending informational packets with students and addressing concerns individually.Principal and staff are always willing to listen and provide a solution.

Archimedean Conservatory is a very good school but is lacking organization and above all teacher to parent communication as it is defineitely not the same as with the Academy. Academically it is a great school and the Principal is excellent.

Profile Completeness

INTERMEDIATE

Want to improve this school's profile?

All schools on GreatSchools begin with BASIC completeness, which includes important information like contact details and test scores. It’s up to the school community to take the next steps. As a parent or community member, you can share what you know with other families by writing a review or answering a few questions about what the school offers. As a school leader, you can upload photos, describe school programs, and more with an Official school profile.

The completeness meter moves to INTERMEDIATE, then ADVANCED, and finally HONOR ROLL as you complete the following: 10 or more reviews, at least 1 photo, and 9 program questions parents find helpful.
