This School has great academic programs. They want as many parents as possible and the teachers are great. There aren't that many choices for activities.
My first initial response to the school was that it was dirty, and the students were biased. But later, I focused on the education, which includes the teachers, the curriculum and the quality. But what still unsettled me was that most of the population 'register' themselves as all the same. They look almost the same. But overall, it is good, but needs improvement.
The Academic quality of this school varies greatly with the instructors in this school. There are some great instructors who unfortunately have over-crowded classrooms or classrooms with curtains between them making it extremely difficult for students to hear. In general it is superior to other Middle Schools in Miami Dade, but for some children this is not the proper learning environment, especially if they have a problem staying on task, dealing with large crowds, or have learning disabilities. To be fair, I was not involved in the PTA because the meetings were in the morning.
This is a wonderful school! Even though it is a little overcrowded, the teachers are wonderful! I love all my seventh grade teachers!
Teachers very inconsistent some very good, some terrible. Overall average but student must be very self-diciplined to survive.
Highland Oaks Middle has been a great school for my child. I like the way teachers are very aware of every individual and do not hesitate to contact the parents to follow up in attendance, behavior or school grades. I'd love if there were more extra curricular activities and specially organized sports.
Great School, I particularly love the website and how the parents can view what is going on academically with their child.
