Maya Angelou is a great school! The teachers actually teach and are very patient as well as strict when needed. The teachers are easy to contact and they are genuinely concerned about the kids education. My son graduated from Maya and my daughter is in 4th grade there. My 2 youngest will also attend Maya. I give the school 5 stars! KEEP UP THE GOOD JOB POETS!

My son is 7 and Maya elm helped him in a lot of ways.My son has special needs academically and was treated just like a regular student at the school .The staff is loving and sees no different in each student everybody treated the same. The A.P. is especial conspired for my child well being .I was a mom who needed to have her son get evaluated for and IQ test and they helped me a lot with that ,for years I have been asking for help and he keeped getting tossed around he finally found a home at Maya Angelou so for those parents who just have tried and don't get help I found it with the staff and students.Thank you Maya Angelou Elementary for your time and concern on my son

About the tests

In 2012-2013 Florida used the Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test (FCAT 2.0) to test students in grades 3 through 10 in reading, 3 through 8 in math, in grades 5 and 8 in science and writing in grades 4, 8 and 10. The FCAT 2.0 is a standards-based test, which means it measures how well students are mastering specific skills defined for each grade by the state of Florida. The FCAT 2.0 has 5 achievement levels, with level 1 being the lowest and level 5 the highest. Florida considers scores of level 3 and higher to be on or above grade level. The goal is for all students to score at or above level 3.

About the tests

Florida uses School Grades to measure the overall performance of a school each year on the Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test (FCAT). Each school is assigned a letter grade (A-F) based on three criteria: the overall performance on the FCAT, the percentage of eligible students who took the test, and whether or not students made progress in reading and math. The School Grades are calculated by adding points earned from each of the performance criteria listed above.
