I'm going to be an eighth grader soon actually. I've been in this school since 6th grade and it's nothing out of the ordinary. As a Cougar Path student in the gifted team, I definitely do enjoy my classes. Parents, please do not complain to teachers and staff about the enormous amount of 'homework'. Please talk to your children before making any assumptions about the seemingly outrageous amount of work our teachers assign us to do DURING CLASS. Also as a peer counselor, I get out of sixth period often to visit other classrooms to help out only to be greeted by that typical group of skippers. Make sure your kids hang out with the right people, especially at our age... We're somewhat rebellious and stupid? Fights do happen and if your kid is smart, they should steer away from them. All in all, this school is decent. Just make sure your kid doesn't hang out with the wrong people or they will most likely become like their group of friends.

My son is graduating from the cougar path program. He has had a great three years. The teachers are awesome, amazing, and take time to answer all questions. He has never been bullied, and has lots of friends. The band program is amazing. I am so sad to see his middle school years come to a close.

Full of Bullies. My child was threatened and later beaten by bullies. Then my son was thrown off of a set of bleachers and he fractured his ankle. The admin did nothing. I have gone in to many sessions where I was to meet with a specific teacher and was cornered by all of his teachers; instead of telling me what my son who is an ese student, would be receiving as far as help and accomodations is concerned; they wanted to tell me that he asks for bathroom priveledges too often and they are not happy about that. I feel the whole attitude of this school stinks. I love the SRO officer and a couple of the people at the front desk- the band director is awesome as well- no comments on the rest. I will move him as soon as I can find a spot. I am very disappointed and am just sick to drop him off at this place knowing at any time he will be jumped or bullied, and nobody will help him. Would not recommend this school to anyone.

We were brand new to the area and my son had a tough time adjusting to 6th grade. However, the teachers and staff went out of there way to make adjustments to his morning routine so that he felt comfortable. I receive emails and phone calls in response to my questions in a timely manner (within 24 hrs). Most teachers have websites so parents can stay on top of what is happening in class. Pick up and drop off is organized. Safety is a primary concern and I see that with teacher, staff and student attitudes. I am proud to send my child to Glades.

My school is a great school. My son is going into the 7th grade, had an awesome 6th grade year, made honor roll the whole year round... had great communication with all his teachers.

Great School, Great Teachers and Staff, Great Administration and Great Students! What more can be said? As the parent of a 7th grader in her 2nd year at Glades Middle I can honestly say that any concerns I might have had about those "middle school years" have been erased. As an involved parent I have had the privilege of being able to observe the staff and students day to day and can say it is a great school to be a part of. Parents are involved, PTSA is very active and the staff and student body are always busy planning activities, community service and charitable events to enhance the academics and give back to our community. "A" school since it opened it's doors!!! Parents that are considering a charter school instead of Glades MIddle are doing their children a disservice. Don't believe the talk by the water cooler! This is a stellar school, and as such an innovator in curriculum for the Broward County District with the Cougar Path (S.T.E.M.) program. Their latest efforts are in meeting with their feeder elementary and high schools' teachers to ensure smooth transitions both to and from Glades Middle School...ingenious!

My straight A High Achievement 7th grader was removed ( by no fault of his own) from a high achievement science class into another science class that was a full chapter behind. I came to the school for clarification on the matter multiple times & asked for a meeting to be scheduled No one willing to help us. - Multiple messages left with the 7th grade counselor & 7th grade Center. No one from the staff was professional enough to answer just a few questions about our concerns. I understand the new class size rule but this could have been taken care of in a more professional mannor. I cannot recommend this middle school.

As a parent of 2 students who attended Glades from 2007 until 2010, I would like to agree with the last comment from a student which starts "I am going to be an eight grade at Glades". There are several reasons why I find Glades an excellent school. 1-The teachers are involved with the parent; I kept in touch with my son's teachers through email the 3 years he was there and not once did I encounter one that was non-cooperative. 2- The principal is well involved in everyday going ons... she knows the kids by their first names, she checks on them, she is out there every morning and every afternoon, helping with the traffic and overseeing the safety of the students. 3-The kids themselves are great. it doesn't matter what school you send your child to, if your child has bad studying habits, it is your responsibility as a parent to guide them and reinforce good habits so that they can succeed, there is no school that will turn a good student to bad or vice versa, the parents need to supervise and stop seeing school as the baby sitter they can afford. As for the curriculum, the clubs, the quality of school they are getting there is just as good as any private school if not better.

I am going to be an eighth grader at Glades this year, and I love it! I am slightly annoyed that the April 19th comment could even say anything about the school, having never attended before. However, my time at Glades has been well spent and I refuse to change schools. In fact, my mom even thought about sending me to Franklin instead, but I told her to not even think about it! Also, regarding the "choking game" matter, it has already been addressed. First of all, your child would only be subject to the game if THEY chose to participate in its activities. After all, most cases of the game are of the individual choking themselves, not innocent others. Glades has wonderful teachers and staff, and now it has a new program called Cougar Path (initiated last year), which is similar to a S.T.E.M. Program (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) which I am also part of.The past year included curriculum conducted in the brand new robotics lab, which was a lot of fun. This year I will be attempting to apply for American Heritage, an excellent school in the area, and I feel Glades has prepared me entirely for my high school experience.

I'm currently going to this school. I am in 7th grade. For the new comers of this school, all i have to say is, the school itself is a good school, but just watch out for the effect of the students. You will change, either for the better or for the worse, I don't think I've changed. Even if I did, I think I changed for the better, I became nicer than i usually am, I work harder in school, other than that I never changed. I had a friend I've known since we were 3 years old and ever since 6th grade we rarely talk. If you are coming to Glades, let it change you for the better.. Also, if you want to have the proper friends, look closely. Don't go for the ones who are good looking, just because they are doesn't mean they are nice. Get to know them before actually becoming their friend. Like, ask people for information about them, don't make it sound stalker-ish though. Best of luck to you. The teachers there, I guess some are nice, but others are not, they have their own teaching strategies that actually work. I always did good in school right from the start in elementary school, and once i came to Glades, i started getting straight A's. I hope you enjoy your year in Glades!!

I'm a student in glades middle school 7th grade and it is an awesome school the teachers are awesome some may not be the most how should i put this "enjoyable" but they are alright. If you have read the comment about the choking game dont worry that has been taking care of. In glades you really have to worry about your grades more for the newcomers reading this it is way different than elementary the work and tests but dont worry about your 5th grade teachers being all "in middle school they wont be all nice like we are" you dont have to worry about that till 7th grade like i am in but you still gotta take it seriously it is still pretty hard. One more word of advise is i know some of you arent gonna take me seriously but i personaly dont like the use of curse words so if you do try not to its not a big deal but its just my opinion. GLADES MIDDLE SCHOOL RULES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have a child that attend here and the kids are out of control, the principal can't control them without the help of the miramar police and she uses that threat constantly. The teacher all use the excuse that there are too many kid so they don't have time to notify parents of concerns. The principal gave the teachers the green light to not be accountable for anything by instituting a "student accountability" rule. They do not want involvement from the parents and the school board south are office is wearing rose colored glasses. Don't let the A+ rating fool you they teach for the FCAT after that is over, may as well not even bother.

I have two kids in Glades this year. If you wonder about the school drive them to school and then watch. Please do not let the students who have left posts here sway you into thinking this school is wonderful. If you have a good kid and ou send them there be ready to hear the horror stories. the constant fights, the rowdy disrespectful kids, the constant class disruptions by kids who are only there because the law says they have to. My kid got hurt last week and since it was deemed as an accident no more was done about it. She was knocked down and trampled by 3 kids in her class as they were rushing to get back to their seat to avoid security being called. Admin consequenced the kid who started it all but not the teacher who was supposed to be supervising him while in

This is a tough age- middle school! There are too many children and in my opinion, not enough supervision, especially in the morning. I refuse to leave my son earlier that 9:15am because fights and mischief happens the most then. I have refused certain field trips because of the massive amount of students. If your a good kid, smart, and not a part of the rowdy crowd, you can pretty much steer clear of trouble. Administration tries its best- and the teachers seem to handle things the best they can- its just a classic case of too many children and not enough adults to go around. The police officer on staff is excellent- Great staff- but the school is too huge!

I beleive the school is closing its eyes to the many many students that do not live in the area- that attend glades. Hello? Many kids are waiting by the city bus stop to get home. Might this be because they are not zoned for glades-? Maybe that would help the overpopulation. Make sure the kids are abiding by district lines. My son's in gms so he hangs out with a good bunch- but i hear and see thing i certainly do not approve of...But i asked my son- do you feel safe? He said 'not really'- 'but ok enough that i am not scared im going to die in school at least.' Uh- not the anser i wanted...Dissapointed :-(

im an eigth grade student at gms and have been a student since sixth grade. the years i have spent in this school are the ones i will look back on fondly. most of the students are kind people and will not shun another person from their group. it is not like one of those 'tv schools'. i personally hang out with a variety of people such as athletic students, choir, H.E.L.P members, yearbook club, etc. the teachers are professional and fair and will always be there for a student.

My son is entering 7th grade. While we have accepted the school, there are many areas that could be improved. Sadly, it is my belief that there is no public school, in FL, that meets my standards. FL ranks in the bottom 10% in the nation, for schools. Locally, we do need more learning, less FCAT prep, extracurricular activities & P.E. We also need an improved bullying program.

Two of my kids have attended Glades Middle School. I am very satisfied. Teachers motivate children. Both my kids have done very well here. Safety and discipline are big issues; this is a large school and this is a major concern for me. Kids may a get just a little too much homework. Teachers are readily available.

(Count.) fights sometimes do occur, (not to mention the food fights) but there is sercrutity on campous to take controll. The school does have over 2,000 but its all handled in the right way. the school has an incredible time managing system/ schedule that works perfectly. The 6th and 7th graders are in one building and the 8th graders are in another-(so parents, don't worry about the big 8th graders squishing your kids!! =D) the school has state-of-the-art equpment which is amazing. theres an abundance of technology every where you turn. all kids will get a chance to experince all there is to offer. i can truly say i've learned alot these past 3 years, but most impotanly i learned how to become a young adult, and your child will to @ glades. so to parents who are conserned, dont be, glades is Awsome!!!!

Hi I am in 8th grade at GMS and I love it there. The staff is fantastic and I have so many friends. Being on the gifted program makes no difference to my social status and there is no cheerleader/jock monarchy in our school. HIghly recommended!

My daughter started Glades this past Aug. From the begining I was very apprehensive about the school especially since it has over 2000 students. I worry about her every day. So far she has been in close proximity to two fights, seen kids grope each other and almost crushed between doors trying to get to into her first peiod class. I have addresses my concerns to the the principal and 6th grade assistant principal but my concerns have never been addressed to my satisfaction. I do not feel aw though there is enough staff to adequatly supervise all of the students. Like I said I worry all the time but this has been her best year academically yet. The faculty and staff are really kidding themselves if they even remotely think they are in charge at this school. I am still planning on removing my child after christmas break.

This is a truly great school! I am in 7th grade, my 6th grade year and this year have been fine. The teachers and administration are really nice and are really good with the kids. They have good programs and clubs so everyone can find what they like. I know it has its bad kids, but doesn't every school. Most people bring up things like fights to push you away, but it has good qualities. It is a state of they art school, has great teachers and administration, good students, and great clubs and programs so everyone can find their own thing. Personally, I believe this is a good and safe learning environment for me and everyone else.

This school was a terrible place for our son. The facilities are new, but it is only a facade. The administration needs to remember that their job is to educate children, not to hire teachers or to maintain facilities. The children are unsupervised and out of control. If it was not because the district forces parents to send children there by not approving transfers, I am sure other parents would choose differently.

My son needs close homework supervision and some teachers don't update the schoolnotes. Behavior problems have escalated and this has affected classroom management. I understand there are plenty of extracurriculars but we stick with the academics; our time is spent tracking down what my kid should be doing for homework.

For the motivated student, Glades Middle has a lot to offer in terms of academics, music and sports. I have not seen much in terms of art offerings, but my child is not really interested in that area. I'm very happy with the school and with the effort of teachers and administrators not only to educate our kids, but to teach them life skills. I don't have any qualms about my child's safety, classes are small enough that the teachers know the kids. I'm satisfied. The A rating means something!

Glades middle school is a great school and most of the teachers are there for the kids and educate the kids really well! I passed the fcat this year with very awesome teachers and 3 high scores. Parents think just because the school is a bunch of portables that it is a bad school, that is not true! The new glades building is being built as of this summer... I want to see what you parents think then.

Quality of curriculum is standard. Music, art and sports are offered but very 'politicised'. Minimal parental involvement. The school is comprised of numerous portables-no actual building that exists for the kids to be educated in.

Had to remove child from school and homeschool him because of the repeated issues of students disregard for the rules and the lack of appropriate discipline by the school managment. From my experience with the priniciple and the guidance counselor, I feel that they are easily moved by parents options to disciplining their children for breaking rules. Problems are theft, fighting, drugs, students engage in sexual acts with other students in the bathrooms, knives brought on campus, teachers being threatened by students verbal threats and physical contact. They do not have the man power to control the situation. Only a few guards. This school is not a safe enviroment for any child.
