The quality of teachers is excellent and particularly Jill Seitz, who runs the media center. She is so enthusiastic about her work and I have observed her patience and kindness with every student who needs help. They are lucky to have her and all the great faculty at Avalon.

Avalon is a school that has a family feeling - a sense of extended family where everyone is watching out for and helping the kids. The teachers are willing to help the students and the families to have academic success and success in their family life as well. Here the learning goes beyond the classroom and reaches out to the family as well as the child.

Avalon elementary is the last of the neighborhood schools. Most of our children walk to school or ride their bikes. We are a small gem in the rough amidst the big schools that surround us. We are a community of learners working toward the success of every child!

The FCAT 2.0 has 5 achievement levels, with level 1 being the lowest and level 5 the highest. Florida considers scores of level 3 and higher to be on or above grade level. The goal is for all students to score at or above level 3.

Each school is assigned a letter grade (A-F) based on three criteria: the overall performance on the FCAT, the percentage of eligible students who took the test, and whether or not students made progress in reading and math. The School Grades are calculated by adding points earned from each of the performance criteria listed above.
