I am one of dozens of retiree volunteers at Lely Elementary School. The administration, the teaching staff, and the office staff have been wonderful in coordinating volunteers and matching us with classroom needs. Recent increases in student population may limit volunteer access because of space needs but this school is exemplary in what it attempts to accomplish with its students and their families.

My kids have gone to Lely for 5 years. The teachers are wonderful and the staff have made us feel at home. The Lion Dens, where the same two teachers are with the kids for two school years foster a sense of security and also help kids thrive. I enjoy the diversity of kids and staff. The former principal Ms. Stewart was excellent and she brought the school up to it s current A Level.

I have been a teacher at Lely for 3 years. Each year I have had an opportunity to go do a different school. But this school has a vibe of teamwork and passion for education that I would not replace for anything. We have gone from a 'D' school to an 'A' school in 3 years and believe that Lely deserves this recognition for the hard work and dedication given everyday!

About the tests

Florida uses School Grades to measure the overall performance of a school each year on the Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test (FCAT). Each school is assigned a letter grade (A-F) based on three criteria: the overall performance on the FCAT, the percentage of eligible students who took the test, and whether or not students made progress in reading and math. The School Grades are calculated by adding points earned from each of the performance criteria listed above.
