When we moved to Florida from Wisconsin, I was afraid to put my daughter in public schools because I had heard the schools down here were not good. THAT WAS NOT THE CASE with North Naples Middle. We have been incredibly happy with the teachers, the academics, and the the school in general. Our daughter WANTS to go to school every day. How could we ask for more?

My son is an 8th grader. This is the first year he attended this school and the first year in the district. I find the school average. Two of his teachers I would rate excellent and the rest average. Coming from another state, I am appalled at the hype for the state FCAT tests. I am not impressed with the emphasis on teaching for these state standardized tests. The children are not well behaved in the classroom or the buses. Some teachers do not take control of the classroom. On a positive note, I think the technology classes are excellent. There are after school activities and there is a music program. The one issue that is a concern is whether to have 6 or 7 periods in a day. This has not been decided for 2006-07. Music and the arts may be jeapardized if there are only 6 periods.

The goal is for all students to score at or above level 3.

About the tests

Florida uses School Grades to measure the overall performance of a school each year on the Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test (FCAT). Each school is assigned a letter grade (A-F) based on three criteria: the overall performance on the FCAT, the percentage of eligible students who took the test, and whether or not students made progress in reading and math. The School Grades are calculated by adding points earned from each of the performance criteria listed above.
