I am so glad my son got to go to this school. The teachers really care and my son loves this school. He has been here for 2yrs now and he has been doing excellent at this school.Compared to the school he use to go too. This school and the teachers are great. Thanks Fletcher for being a awesome school.
Fletcher provides excellent opportunities for students motivated to take advantage of them. Unlike the magnet schools, it has true diversity in its makeup: there are black, white, rich, poor, smart, struggling, straight edge, druggies, etc., etc. If you want your child to learn how to live in a world filled with all kinds of people before they go out into that world alone after high school, then they would be lucky to attend this school. The faculty and administration are caring and supportive, especially if you are a parent willing to help out with the many activities offered for the benefit of the students. Involved parents always seem to get their concerns taken care of. Fletcher is the best school in Duval County for a motivated student to earn both AP and Dual Enrollment credit.
I am thoroughly impressed with the principal as he promotes trust and high achievment. The teachers are very high quality, particularly those teaching advanced placement. The Humanities and Statistics teachers are extraordinary.
Fletcher gives students oppurtuinities to do great things and has a extremly spirited atmosphere! Purple runs through our viens!
This school is only good for one thing: the loss of innocence, I have known too many students that have been lost to a life of decadence. Now for the academics, anyone can pass there it's just that pitiful
Fletcher has a great sense of community, and the teachers are on the whole really caring, and really seem to enjoy the school.
We moved from North Carolina this year and my son is a senior at Fletcher. The staff was outstanding in making sure all credits were counted and very friendly. Big move for his senior year and students were very welcoming. Great school!
Out of any school I've ever been to, Fletcher has got to be the best. There are enough incentives to keep students motivated, and the teachers work hard to make sure every student graduates. With such a wide variety of classes, it's easy to get your required credits without being forced to take a class you're really not interested in. Being less than two minutes away from the beach is just a plus, especially for those students who have nothing to do after AP testing. I love Fletcher, we defend the island, and we do it well. PURPLE PRIDE!
I go to Fletcher and it is awesome!! The teachers are nice and helpful, the kids are great and there are a plethora of clubs to join in. There is noo way to be bored at Fletcher.
Excellent with a capitial 'E'! this school has not only united the Beaches community, but has united students that go beyond the 'clique' boundary and truly show the power of the Purple Pride!!
I am a former student of Fletcher myself and though I have many fond memories, I didn't want that to be the reason I sent my child to the school. After researching other schools in the district, I learned that Fletcher competes on every level with the other schools. Fletcher has opportunities for scholars, athletes, dramatists, musicians, pre-law as well as the average student. That is why it has been one of only two schools in the district to take the failing school students until the 2009 school year when the district will also open Stanton, Paxon and Douglas Anderson, the other A rated schools, to the F school students who choose to go. Perhaps that will alleviate some of the overcrowding but Fletcher has long been the choice of many families because of the lack of comparable choices in the district.
I love Fletcher. It has some drawbacks like the overcrowding and how the school is too focused on the FCATs but all in all it has alot to offer. I am a 3rd generation student and I would never go anywhere else. I love the community and the laid back attitude. Plus I love wearing flip-flops to school. The teachers are great except a few who tend to pick favs and Principal Gilbert is awesome. They need another high school built to relieve some crowdness. But all in all, GO FLETCHER!
After reading the other reviews posted, I am shocked that no one has loudly complained about the overcrowding at Fletcher. The large classes and overcrowded hallways, not to mention the quota amount of portables on campus, make this school lose out on much of its potential. The community at the beaches is close knit and very supportive of the school. I feel the biggest drawback is the number of students that attend versus the space available to house them.
Fletcher is a great school to go to, were offered great advantages in the ap area and were also offered interesting classes. The only problem is the attitude some of the students bring in. Since its at the beach theres a lot of kids who dont care about going to school, potheads, that distract other students. Also theres a problem with the whole bringing of the Northside kids into the school who cause conflict, like Fights all the time. Its rediculous that kids who arent even zoned for fletcher get to come here.
If your child is of the African American culture be aware that the atmosphere is less than desirable regarding race relations at Duncan U. Fletcher. This is my daughter's 2nd year here and I am always having to remind her that there are still some very ignorant people to be tolerant of. We moved to Jacksonville from Ohio never dealing with such ideals from such a young group of americans.I am saddened but committed to the goal of creating an open-minded, tolerant vibe at Fletcher high one child at a time.
This is a good enviroment that I think is good for all kinds of leaning. My grandmother went here, my mother and I as well.
