Teacher quality

This used to be a fairly good school, but the quality of teaching & facilities is rapidly diminishing. Kids are having more & more trouble actually learning. The current teachers are demerit-crazy at this school. I know children with physical problems that make it difficult for them to write so many demerits, but the teachers and office staff don't seem to care. I agree with the statement someone else made about their brand of discipline and the extremes they take it to inspire rebellion more than change.
My son is finishing up his first year of kindergarten at OCS, and his teacher this year was my kindergarten teacher 25 years ago. I attended OCS from kindergarten until I graduated high school. This is a prime example of why this school is such a gem...it's more than a school, it's a family. If you are looking for the latest technological advancements or multi-million dollar facilities, this may not be your first choice in schools. But if your top priorities are that your child's education be rooted in Biblical principles, that they be nurtured in a loving environment with small class sizes and one-on-one attention in a family atmosphere, then you don't need to look any further than OCS.
My son has been attending OCS for 2 years an my family and I are very pleased. The teachers are very nice and are concerned about him. I love the coach because hes not only interested in the team playing and winning, but he is also concerned about their education.OCS is a home away from home. Anyone interested in a Christian School, OCS is the place to be.
My son has been attending OCS for 2 years now and i could not be happier, the staff is wonderful and the school is a wonderful environment, compared to these schools nowadays where the kids all they do is hang out, i think the disciplanary actions are good and the mentoring as well, my son will continue at ocs until he graduates HS.
I am a student at OCS, and have been for 10 years. The school is a wonderful school. The staff there are excellent. The teachers are wonderful and care very much for every single one of the students. OCS has a great sports program, our golf team has been undefeated and our Varsity Basketball has succeded very greatly and still is. There are a few flaws to our school, it is a run down school, a lot of the money and time goes to uneccessary things, and some other things, but over all that stuff it is a great school.
I'm currently a student, and I have been attending OCS for 5 years. Like what the other reviews say OCS' strongest quality is teacher student interaction. I'm also very involved in there sports programs. I love playing for them, but alot of time, money, and effort goes to specific unneeded areas. But all in all an ok school with pretty good discipline.
My son has attended Oldsmar Christian for 3years. The interaction between the teachers and the students is wonderful. I would recommend this school to those who want to focus on the family. Close knit, kindness and caring teachers are what make this school awesome!!
My daughter has finished K-4 and K-5 at Oldsmar and I have to say that I am thrilled with what she has learned. All the kids are well mannered and the staff is wonderful. The only place where communication lacks is in the office. That is one place that could be improved upon. I read all the other reviews and the one that mentioned that all money goes into the sports program bothered me. My daughter is not yet involved in the sports program but all of it's money is made from gymnastics classes, cookie and book sales through out the year. The tution is only $4000 per year and that includes your books and registration fee. The school is not modern but they focus on education they do their best. I would like to see foreign language get introduced at an earlier age. Excellent FAMILY school.
Only attended the past 2 years and we won't be going back. No discipline in the class rooms, Upper grade students are not respectful. Teachers aren't accredited. Lacks comminication with parents, parents don't have a clue what children are doing. No agendas for assignments. Too many students being tutored for a fee, money is going somewhere. I believe they need to spend more timeon accademics rather then sports. No art, Music is limited. Computers are limited. 1 field trip a year. Children are not thriving. We are out of here.
Decent academic program, and very good student teacher intereaction. Some of the staff members in the office need to learn better disciplinary skills. Perhaps a different method that would inspire change, and not rebellion.
This school is good when it comes to academics. The teachers are very supportive. The school offers a gymnastics class that my children enjoyed. The school offers no early spanish and not any art classes. I am somewhat concerned with the safety. It seems they pour all their money into sports and none in improving the school facility.
My daughter attended for 3 years and we were very pleased with her academic achievements. The teachers are highly skilled and work hard to bring out the best in each child.
My daughter is in her first year in the Kindergarten class. She loves it & the teachers there are amazing.
This school is a great school for one on one learning and the Boys basketball program is wonderful. The school is strict in certain areas, but only in needed areas. This school has changed the lives of many people.
I have had 2 students graduate from Oldsmar Christian, and I have one in the 9th grade in 2004-2005. Teachers are unmatched in Tampa Bay area for active involvement in the students life. The school has one of the best Basketball programs in the State of Florida, currently ranked 7th in all classes, and the school rallies around their team. Their is no better high school in Florida for student, parent and administration particiaption in an athletic program!
After two years of attending (5 and 6 grade), I can attest to the classroom quality. The teachers care for each student's individual progress. The teaching staff is their #1 asset. There is lack of communication from the administration however. I can only recall two meetings (one each year) where I've seen the principle. From my view, OCS method of communication is not effective enough to penetrate to all parents (i.e., flyers provided to children that often times do not make it home). Other than sports events, I often feel that I am in the dark in regards to what the administration is doing to improve the teaching quality, elective classes, safety and school facilities. I would suggest a website and quarterly PTA meetings to augment the efforts of the teaching staff and complement the quality of teaching already provided.
Oldsmar is a family-oriented Christian school with an emphasis on academics while providing a Bible-based curriculum and a dynamic sports program. The tuition is the most affordable in the Tampa area and there are scholarships available. The elementary teachers are creative and provide fun and exciting classroom activities, musical programs, and plays. The high school teachers are very dedicated and go beyond the 'call of duty' to help struggling students. There is a computer lab where students learn keyboarding, Word, Excel, and Powerpoint. They also have access to the internet for research purposes. In Sports, they offer golf, basketball (2003 District Champions), baseball, softball, volleyball, and cheerleading. There is a mandatory uniform policy. Lunch is provided in the cafeteria. The school also offers a K-4 program.
I have one elementary child in this school and another enrolled for next year. They use the ABEKA program, which any Christian can tell you, is a Top-rated Christian education. Small children are learning in a nurturing and loving environment - and, in the meantime, are not confined to the public school restrictions of calling 'Christmas' the 'Winter Holiday' or 'Easter' the 'Spring Holiday' - they are called what they are! They learn verses from the KJV Bible and discipline problems are handled promptly (unlike the public system's 'redtape'). If you're looking for a school that looks good from the outside, don't bother (b/c it is a bit run-down and the parking lot oftentimes has litter). But if you are looking for an awesome early learning experience for your young child, this is the place to start!
