I just graduated out of this school last year and I loved it! my teachers were all nice and they helped me out of academic stress and failure. one thing I really did not like was the Before School Program. They were all extremely rude to my parents and I, they would take us to breakfast late everyday and im proud that my parents took me out of it. Other that this is one of the best schools out there (: . - Class of 2013 student !
We moved to this school in Nov 2013. The first thing I noticed was that when I requested to meet with their new teachers during the first week, they asked me why? They complied, but it was clear that they thought meeting with me was some sort of extra thing. Also the front office stops answering the phones promptly at 3pm and the only way to get a hold of a teacher outside of school hours is via email which has a 24 hour turn around time minimum. Cafeteria smells of urine due to perpetually unclean restroom next to it. Principal is totally MIA, never ever have seen her. I saw the school nurse tell a girl crying and complaining of shortness of breath to get back on the bus and go home. No security at car rider line, I once picked up someone else's kid without staff knowing and they once put a boy I was supposed to be picking up, on the bus, even though he'd been coming with me for the previous two weeks. The overall feeling is that they do not want parents to "bother" them. Any meetings or discussions out of their routine is seen as a bother and interruption. They may have higher test scores but their caring and friendly environment is nonexistent.
horrible horrible horrible horrible horrible horrible horrible horrible horrible horrible horrible horrible horrible horrible horrible
Metrowest Elementary school is a diverse school that serves about 1500 students. Our school stands up high because of the great administration and highly qualified teachers.
My school is amazing. The teacher's and staff are caring and considerate. The teacher's are amazingly dedicated and hard working. We get to work with wonderful kids and nice families.
A great place to work where every day is a new learning experience!! The students always inspire me to be a better teacher.
I love MetroWest Elementary School. I have had an association with this school since 2000. It has the largest enrollment in our county and it still maintains and "A" status. The staff is helpful, the teachers are dedicated and the student's are learners. They do their best to keep the children safe with a closed campus policy. This is a school I would highly recommend.
The best school ever, population are very diverse and the teacher are great. the administrator are amaizing and always try to help student, parents and staff
My daughter has just completed her 4th grade. She has recd very good FCAT grades in maths and reading i.e 5 & 4 . good grades reflects back on both efforts from teachers and student inc parents. i met with school teacher in all PTA meetings and they were very good in explaining childs progress. they organize musicals etc too. only thing which i feel school should focus too is on games, social development of kids after school hours.
We have two kids that started at MetroWest this year. Our daughter (5) is in Kindergarten and our son (4) is in Exceptional Student Education Program. We have been "extremely happy" with the progression of both kids and that is a direct reflection the dedicated teachers and staff. Our son receives speech therapy twice a week through the school and we have seen a HUGE improvement in his ability to talk (almost immediately once getting into the program). And our daughter's reading, writing and story telling is well beyond where I thought she would be. I guess Kindergarten is the new 1st Grade. Sure there were a few hiccups in the beginning, but that was mainly due to the fact we were going through our first school year (lots has changed since I was in elementary in the '70's)!! Thank you to all the great MetroWest teachers and staff!!
This is good school and I have enjoyed the years but I heard many students complain about lunch. I send my daughter with a lunch everyday. But I must say she was in 5th grade and nobody got as much work. The teacher was very unorganized and always losing assignments. So, she just put it as missing work decreasing my daughter's grades. I think I will look forward for middle school much more than I did for elementary school.
I have raised several children and this is by far one of the worst schools in Orange County when it comes to helping students succeed. The principal is not interested in parents which has to make you believe there is no interest in the students either. They dont care about the community and the kids as someone else wrote is a true statement.
I am a parent and I so dissapointed int he schools approach to parent involvement in the school. On one hand they complain that there is not enough but when you want to participate they tell you no. I walk my child to school every day, participate as a volunteer for the school and try to help if needed. I was just told I could not walk my child to class anymore..... It really makes me think that they dont care about the community and the kids. Why not and what harm is it doing to the school.??? My child loves her class and does great but we now have to deal with this issue and see how it will be resolved. The school has changed for the better in technology but has gone backwards with humanity.
I agree with many of these parents. This is by far the worst communicating school. I have2 children in 5th grade. The one is special need and we did not get off to a very good start. I now have a wonderful relationship with that teacher but now having problems with my other childs teacher. I have sent numerous letters to her and no response. My child has about 4 hours of homework each night and then teacher wants to know why we helped her. What is the length of time an 11 year old can stay focused. 8am-3pm and then 3:30pm-8pm I do not call this a life. I may think differently if my child was coming home with A's. Then I get told I should pay for a tutor to teach her what she should be learning at school. Ok now we have just also added another 2hrs to her day studying. Still no A's
Best teachers, Best students and Best staff in Orlando, Florida. Most important is that the children respect each other and parents are very involved in thier children's progress.
My son is in kindergarten and I commend Mrs.R for all her time and dedication. I am involved in volunteering in this school and todate I have only seen 3 other parents involved in the classroom, Still there is a lot of criticism for all her hard work. Parents wake up and smell the coffee, schooling is not a baby sitting club you have to be involved with your childs extra curricular activities,in school and at home. Please get more involved for your childs sake. Mrs. R you are truly a gem. Keep up the good work.
I am an Environmental Scientist. They do extra effort to raise Environmentally Aware Kids, which is very good for our planet in the future.
I have had nothing but positive experiences with this school. All the teachers have been fantastic, and I especially love my daughter's current second grade teacher.
Yes, I am sure that if your child is in regular classes as my oldest son was, it is a great school. Believe me and alot of other parents that have children that are in special classes this is not a good school at all. As for the principle she is very bad at returning phone calls. I have to contact the Orange County School Board just to hear from our own principle at MetroWest. It is the only time that I hear from her.
I will be extremely happy when this school year is over and I can transfer my daughter OUT of MetroWest. I have had nothing but problems with this school when I enrolled her for her first grade year and it's been a headache every day. Her first grade teacher loves to pile on the homework, and no other child in the other first grade classes comes home with half as much as my daughter and her classmates do. We're talking sheets of math, spelling, science and book reviews every night. Their after school program gave out my personal information to an in-home daycare without my permission. Calls to the principal were never returned.
